Not gonna happen. I don't see Vancouver supporting another NBA team anytime soon. NBA has alot of travel issues as it is without adding another trip to the NW after they re add Seattle. Logistically it's easier to just NOT Go to the NW at all. London is closer to Miami than Seattle or Vancouver. Night as well go to London right?

@@texasscifi3431 but if you had both Seattle and Vancouver, then you have an easy away week for East Coast teams, hitting Portland, Seattle and Vancouver before heading home. They do it in the NHL which has teams in Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Lots of east coast teams when they play them will play 2, 3 or all four of those teams in a row for a little away strech.

As a Portlander, and a soccer fan, it seems crazy to me that Seattle does not have an NBA team. It's a fluke that their team left. Additionally, a Vancouver team could exist adjacent to a Seattle team without any risk of crossover. Vancouver rivals Seattle. When the Sonics left Seattle, none of their fans became Blazers fans. Similarly, there is no risk of overlapping loyalty between Vancouver and Seattle sports fans. They are happy to hate each other. Also, there would be an automatic rivalry between Vancouver and Toronto.

Virginia Beach/Norfolk: That area, known as the Hampton Roads area, is actually a conglomeration of SEVEN major cities (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth and Suffolk) with a combined population of around 2 1/4 million, which makes it a very good choice for expansion in ANY league. As a native Cincinnatian, the metropolitan area of Cincinnati (2.26 M) is larger than either Cleveland (2.1 M) or Columbus (2.1 M). The challenge isn’t that Cincinnati can’t support a NBA team because we will be stretched out because of having Major League Football and Baseball (Like Cleveland)… Our challenge in having an NBA team will be (probably just like Columbus and Louisville) that we have vibrant and major college basketball to compete with. In Cincinnati, two Universities (Cincinnati and Xavier) have arenas that combined hold around 22,000 fans. Cleveland doesn’t as big of a challenge with that… Ohio State (Columbus) and Louisville also have the same challenge as Cincinnati

Seattle would have direct comp with the NHL and it was a sour divorce previously. Vancouver was even more sour divorce and didn’t get a chance to build the team/interest then moved to a far inferior city. Anyway, After the top 3 then it depends on the NBAs objective. @hillyseattlenarrowstreets6087
Competing against a Hockey team was a concern for Seattle Sonics owner Ackerly, that he limited the remodel of Key Arena. Too bad remodel was a small Arena, that's what David Stern hated about Seattle's situation. He was dissed by Washington legislators on getting State funding for larger Arena. Howard Schultz sold the team to an out of towner, so no one local could show him as a bad owner. Also the city required any basketball team to play at it's Seattle Center location (Colosseum, Key Arena now Climate Pledge) so this property wouldn't be vacant. FYI remodel ran $900 Million in 2020
@TheOlskool4ever
@TheOlskool4ever Год назад
@@hillyseattlenarrowstreets6087 So the city MANDATED the Sonics to play at Key Arena? The owner has no say in the matter? As for not wanting to compete against an NHL team, the 76ers have also decided they want out of the Wells Fargo Center here in Philly that they share with the Flyers and are planning a move to downtown to a HORRIBLE location. Sports is big business as you know and owners want their own venue for their teams to play solely for themselves. In that regard, the Sonics owner was probably right to be concerned.
@hillyseattlenarrowstreets6087
@@TheOlskool4ever Yes, Climate Pledge Arena is Owned by the City of Seattle (it's where the Space Needle is located) and they made the Hockey Team Owners renovate Key Arena for $1.1 Billion so they could play in Seattle. Earlier people were trying to get a Basketball team here (Sacramento Kings at the time), they wanted to build THEIR Larger Stadium near Century Link & T Mobile stadiums and the City refused them because it would make the Key Arena redundant. FYI city made old arena roof historical so Climate Pledge was built underneath it = high cost. Side note - Better parking, freeway access & rail transit at location by football & baseball stadiums. Even better, Spring 2022, the County wanted to place a 5 Acre Megaplex Homeless Shelter 3 blocks East of Stadiums, 2 blocks South of Chinatown for Dec 2022. 450 beds, 50 tiny homes & 50 RV parking spots, 24/7 Mental Health Clinic & City Sobering Center. This Shelter was canceled due to nearby Chinatown residents protesting it's sudden siting and poor notice to the community. With Freeway to the East, Stadiums East, Industrial Businesses to the South, easiest neighborhood for Homeless people to hangout when they were asked to leave for the day was Chinatown - 2 blocks North - with Parks, businesses, restaurants and elderly Asian residents to mess with. In 2017, the City placed a 75 bed shelter near the Little Saigon neighborhood that destroyed Businesses there. Homeless shelters and Encampments attract too much Crime and Drug Use that political people in charge will deny. Yup, Seattle leadership is a Joke and people are too liberal to know better.

Honestly, if a team is going in the East then Montreal has the best chance and is the most obvious choice. It’s got a massive population and the arena and even an investment group waiting for a team to be available. The only one stopping Montreal from having a team right now is Adam Silver. It’s also a majority French speaking city that would make players from France and French-speaking countries right at home. It’s also far away from Toronto and NYC to have its own distinct fanbase (although it would cut into the Raptors fanbase). Being in Canada is a much bigger issue than it needs to be imo. As for the West, it’s really between Vancouver, Seattle and Las Vegas. Vancouver is in Canada and would definitely have a distinct fanbase from Seattle (as they did in the 90s) and Vegas could grab the Clippers since LA is losing population and doesn’t really need two teams imo. Seattle also really wants a NBA franchise again. The NHL team seems to be doing well.

First of all, I just have one thing to say about the first city you mentioned and that is, FresNO!!! And second, as large as Los Angeles and the surrounding metropolitan area is, it would not be smart to put a 3rd team in Anaheim (or as we called it growing up: AnaCrime) especially when the Clippers have hardly made it there in a 2 team city. Then you want to add a third team up north in California? Same situation as Southern California with the Kings being the Clippers of the north. If that’s not a clear picture of over saturating the market, I don’t know what is.

4:45 I mean the University of Louisville has been too, easily a top 10 college program all-time. Just basketball paradise there, and here too where I live in (southern) Indiana... I'd much rather make the trip to LOU for NBA than Indianapolis. Louisville is just a cooler city to me too than Indianapolis. They had ABA and their team outdrew most NBA teams in attendance. The passion for basketball has only grown over time. NBA would do well in Louisville. Would be the biggest arena in the league too.

I'm a very rare person in this "Kentuckiana" area who actually doesn't care too much for college sports, so a big 4 sports team, NBA being the most likely, would be very welcoming to me. And that's not to say it's strictly a college sports area, like some people are led to believe. As I said, their ABA team outdrew most NBA teams in attendance and UL and UK were already a successful thing then, obviously.

Seattle and Vegas’ nhl teams already have arenas, it won’t be that hard to have an NBA team there since NHL and NBA usually share the same stadium. Pretty sure that Seattle would love to have their NBA team back but Vegas, I’m not so sure, Vegas locals seem to ride or die for the Golden Knights, I’ve never seen a city embrace a team as much as how they embraced the Knights. Probably because it’s their 1st sports team, however the Raiders were not received by the locals well when it relocated to Vegas. Who would have thought that Vegas would be a Hockey city.

Your list isn't bad, but it's not great either. You can definitely go to 40. South Carolina was a bad choice on your list. None of the 3 markets could support a team as yet. You left Jacksonville Florida off your list. More importantly the NBA could expand into South America because you are in the same timezone, but travel could become an issue. Brazil can easily host 2 teams alone with several other countries. You could easily add 6 teams south of the United States. Your Fresno choice is an interesting one. They definitely have the population for a team. I like the idea of filling holes in the middle of the country. If they could get Warren Buffet to own a team since he is a fan, Omaha would be a good choice.
