As someone who has been going through all of design hurdles and steps of 3D printing a shoe from TPU, I love this! The challenge for me was the transition from the harder rubber to the softer fabric feeling, then I stumbled upon how to do it by accident when a TPU print went wrong. It had the solid rubber bottom layer, then it transitioned into a nice soft fabric type material that was soft and flexible, but still very durable. Now working on consistently replicating that "accident". lol

I love the Real 3D Printed Products series and Zellerfeld definitely deserves to be included. TPU is a great material that we 3D print a lot in our small business. I'm limited by slicers in fully utilizing different TPU characteristics in the same part so more adaptive slicing can be very beneficial in custom tailoring the physical properties for each portion of the design, although the modifiers feature of PrusaSlicer is a huge help. With complete control of how much TPU goes where, TPU will allow more fine tuning of a design than shoes made from several different materials, at much lower cost, with the added benefit of being completely recycled unlike shoes glued together from TPU, foam, nylon fabric, leather, etc.

The guy Zellerfeld is the heck of a genius, we all sayin that personalization at the costs of mass blah blah, and he comes out with scannering people's feet and printing them the very shoes they deserve. This thing will blow up in less than 2 years, I feel.

Best wishes to Zellerfeld for commercial success. We also need maker versions of downloadable shoes that could be custom fitted almost as well by simply scaling asymmetrically in X, Y and Z in the slicer before printing the shoe. I'd love to 3D print custom fitted Crocs from TPU. I might take a couple of days and design a simple TPU shoe and then upload it.

Really cool video. Love the format. Another idea for podcast would he interviews with other people in the 3d printing world. Whether printer manufacturer, small company/entrepreneur using 3d printing, or other print farm owners, etc

Shoe durability? How many days would they last if worn for day-to -day activity, not exercising?

Here's a good video showing the shoes durability. Guy wore them for 30 days, walked though various terrains, ran them over with a car, even tried to light them on fire lol, shoes were fine. It wasn't until he threw them in a lawn mower that they finally started to split, but they were still functional. TPU is pretty impressive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-40PtB8G3sZo.html

Time will tell for sure, but TPU is one of the most durable materials available to 3D printing, so I expect it will be pretty reasonable.

I designed a 20 gram TPU product that sees extreme duty use. The previous version was manufactured from laser cut Santoprene. The new version is 3D printed TPU. Thin as it is, it's tough enough to be a dog chew toy. I tried polishing 3D printed TPU in a tumbler with sharp stainless steel pins. After 20 hours, the TPU looked the same. Impact resistance and abrasion resistance are off the chart.

@@Liberty4Ever Cool. I've used TPU to make shock coil spring spacers for my motorcycle, as well as bushings for the shock attachment point on the swing arm, and they're still in perfect condition after about five months. However, The shoes are much thinner in places than the parts I make, and I'd be concerned about layer adhesion more than anything else. Time will tell.

@@ZOMBIEHEADSHOTKILLER I recall a video like that too - but I also recall it was rushed and he had to make quite a few sacrifices to make it to the con in time. Quite a big difference from a professional and well tested design by an actual shoe manufacturer.

Hello Can you make full overview of your custom printer?
@TS_Mind_Swept

Sure, it's fine that they have exclusive shoes for those with more money than they should, but it would be nice to see a generic version of these become available for those of us who just want shoes that fit and work (and I'm not saying that's not the plan, but I just hope it doesn't get sidelined like so many other good ideas..)

Honestly, I don't need the whole shoe. I need a service that can scan my feet and mail me a custom insert. I think for most people, they are not looking for a fashion statement, but just for their feet to not hurt at the end of the day. I would pay money for something like that.

There are places that do that! I worked on the 3D printers that they use to print these at a place called Tillges Orthotics in Minnesota in the US. I’m sure there are more places that do it too, but im guessing it’s expensive

No reason why they can't have a scanning device in ever payless and footlocker going. BTW - I am willing to trade this billion dollar idea for 10 million and free custom inserts for life. :-) Any takers?

Nike shoes are not commodities. Nike and other brands use materials to optimize the function and performance of the shoes as well as to protect and support the foot and person wearing them. I love 3d printing but these cool crocs type of TPU 3d printed shoes are not in the same league as a real shoe, just as any one piece molded shoe cannot and does not fit or perform on par with a traditionally manufactured shoe. Still its pretty cool, its a trophy for the rich.

300$ piece of rubber... looks like shit I wouldn't wear it for free regardless if it's 3d printed or not Again it's the product that counts... not how it was manufactured
