This is excellent! Thank you so much for sharing these gems. I feel good knowing that I’m already setting myself up for success using most of these tools, but I would LOVE to vote for a video on how you’ve incorporated YNAB for your business and personal life. God bless you, John! 😀
Hey John! Quick question, the Capture One presets include the ones for Canon cameras? i only see the Fuji ones in your website and i dont want to buy the wrong ones. Greetings
Hi John, I really need help as I'm a photographer in the UK and it seems that neither Honey book nor YNAB aren't available here. Do you know of any proper alternatives? Would mean the world. Thank you!
A finance video would be a lifesaver! I feel like I've been searching the internet looking for a 2022 friendly version of how to manage everything from taxes, write-offs, CPAs, finding the right attorney, business insurance, connecting with a tax professional, setting up bank accounts properly, etc. I'm reaching in a point in my career where I'm succeeding at the client management and photo part, but really struggling with taxes and finances. 10/10 would watch!
I swear this video came at the perfect time. I have been battling with the financial aspect but also running it more as a business than photography. Thank you so much for this. I would highly appreciate that video on the financial breakdown. Be Blessed
I'm glad to hear the timing of this was right in place. I'm totally going to do a video on the finance side of things. It's honestly the most important part of the business.
Man... That AI editing is crazy. Hit us w that YNAB video!! lol This was one of your best business making videos yet. *hits the hype button repeatedly*
Hi John! Happy New Year! My problem with using AI to do my culling and editing is that I feel like I am cheating lol! Idk why but I feel better if I edit my photos because it gives me a "wow I did that" moment if that makes sense. However, later on in life I am definately stepping back and try to use the resrouces you mentioned. Thanks for being so amazing! Here's to 2022!
Hi, John, Love the video, lots of great information! I would love to see a video on the black blaze. I have it but not sure I’m using it correctly. Also, looking forward to the video on budget and getting my finances in order to run my business the right way.
No, you should take on debt. You will be losing your ass if you dont buy that new camera on a credit card. I'd be poor as hell if I had to pay for everything upfront to get my business successful. But the caveats to debt: only apply for cards with 0% apr and fantastic sign up bonuses or 2% cashback. AND THEN, if you dont pay it off within the terms, get a credit card for a balance transfer with 0% apr. DO NOT EVER pay interest to your debt - that is where you're dead in the water.
That's the thing. Most people do pay interest on their credit card debt because they're using a credit card for money they don't have. Meaning they can't pay back all of what they are purchasing. The more I see credit cards unless you have great income it's really just a trap for the poor. I use credit cards for my business for the exact reason you're talking about with point and things, but if I can I try my best to keep my debt at $0 at all times.
Hi John! Been in a season of big time imposter syndrome. Good confirmation I'm on the right track doing what I'm doing with the tools I use. (some of the same as you mentioned, some different ones like Dubsado) Part of my imposter syndrome is definitely when it comes to finances. I have zero idea how to actually manage them. A video on that and budeting would be amazing!

Awesome. I'll make sure to work on that ASAP. YNAB has made a HUGE change in my families life and honestly the less debt you have the less technically you have to work so I'm all about that life!
I really do LOVE the idea of AI edits but I can safely say I don't think it will ever be able to edit in one's style. I have been an event photographer for over 15 years and have tried every product on the market with little to no success. Nothing like a good old fashion edit. Love what your bringing, keep it up.
@jbivphotography Just want to let you know that you have really been an inspiration for me. Your content has really motivated me to just get started and taking the steps to build a career in photography. Have always been apprehensive, but from the experiences you have shared it's really helped me to develop more confidence in my abilities and to know what to focus on. Thanks for all the material you're putting out here, can't measure how valuable this all is. PS. I too worked the ole "fruit stand" (Apple Store) for some time, may be why I've connected so much with you/your content.

I was surprised to see YNAB on this list, but also very happy to see it. I've been using YNAB for 6 or 7 years now for everything budget related and it's an absolute gem. It can take some time to wrap your brain around it, especially if you're new to budgeting, but it is well worth the time investment to learn. You'll gain that time back 10 fold and have the bonus of knowing exactly where your money is going over time and that sense of security and control you get. Can't speak highly enough about the program, the team that makes it, and the benefits of using it. If anyone is wondering, no I've never been affiliated with them in any capacity.
Great video! Thanks for sharing these gems. Can you do a video on how you use AfterShoot? I know there are videos out there but I like learning from you :)
Really appreciate this video! I’ve been trying to figure out how to transition into the business side of things, and you laid it out clearly. Thank you for all the tools and your willingness to help others succeed.
Yes. However, Honeybook is mainly for client communication, client payments and contracts. If you're looking for someone to order prints after as well then something like Pic-Time would be the best choice for that.
This video was more so meant for someone trying to level up their business. Contracts is something you should have the MOMENT you start. But on the same end you can do contracts withing HoneyBook. It's really awesome.

@@jbivphotography You're just awesome, man. Thanks for responding to my comment and for all of the awesome content you provide us with!! I'm about to use your code to start my Pic Time account!
Oh yeah! That's the stuff I needed to start the year! I have plans for beginning my own fine art portrait home studio and this is *ABSOLUTELY* impeccable, John! Happy new year directly from Brazil ❤️
It’s true. But honestly if they’re turning out great work and have happy clients I don’t see it being a problem at all. Holding “shooting manual” as the staple of “great photography” is a mistake in my opinion. As long as the results are great I really don’t care how anyone does it. I myself shoot in manual because it gives me the most flexibility.
Just found your channel because I want to start my small business this year ! So many great tips on this channel. Also your laugh makes me laugh 😆 love it. Thank you so much !!
2 options. Either pay for it. Or save your money and pay out of pocket. Obviously the 2nd option is a little risky and better for folks who are in good health or don't have any conditions where they need additional health care.
Am I the only one who enjoys culling? The problem with AI culling is that there are some unconventional shots that end up being some of my favourites. Someone might be blinking, or it might be a bit soft, but there are parts of other parts of the image that really stand out. John is right though in the sense that these shots probably don't add to your business per say. If AI culls out some photos that you would have kept, your gallery is still most likely going to be good, and you'll save time. Same with the editing. When I edit my own photos, I don't feel like I've wasted my time. My couples know that I'm taking the time to do this myself, and I think there's a value in that for both myself and them. I also think that going through the culling process, and especially the editing process, can help make you a better photographer. But anyone who does AI-it-up, that's cool! Whatever works for someone and their business. Great video, John - as always xo
I actually don't mind culling either. I'd rather just spend my time doing something else. But I do totally agree with everything you say here. If you haven't been culling and editing your own photos for a couple of years you probably should do it yourself to start out. Really understand the craft and what you're serving your couples with. And then when you start scalling your business look into saving yourself time. Thanks for adding all of this!
@@jbivphotography I totally agree. I'm still in the learning stage, John. I don't mean in how we're all learning in the grand philosophical sense; I mean with every single wedding I'm learning a lot. I've done like 10 weddings. For someone like you, these AI tools absolutely make sense. :) Wishing you and your family all the best in 2022 :) Thanks for all your work, by the way. Your videos are incredibly helpful!
Wow so much good advice my take away is that these tools will save you time and also enable you to manage more clients and bigger events thanks John keep it up
OMG dude You just saved me! I just started my photography website after working on it for a month. I am doing photography as a side job for now, and was wondering what other tools I can use to make my work flow less intimidating and as smooth as possible. God Bless You 🙌
Honestly it's really just streamlined everything for me but it hasn't really changed much. Overall smoother experience than jumping between MacOS and Windows like all the time.
Thanks for this great information John, the thought of having someone else cull and edit our images will allow us to take more bookings. We love your other videos too :)
It really is amazing the time you can save by having your photos culled the same night you get home from a wedding and then you just double check that everything looks good and finish up from there. LIFE changing!
hey John thanks for the great video! quick question, what happens with the rejects on AfterShoot after you import to Lightroom? what would be your workflow with those? Thanks!!
Since my process is a little different I'm actually not sure. I tend to always import all of my images into Lightroom first and then I cull after that. But for the most part I think it just marks rejected photos but I'll have to look back into that.
EXACTLY! Debt free and financial freedom (which IMO doesn't mean having a whole bunch of money, more so just living on it the right way) all while serving others and changing their lives. That's really my goal. I want to serve others and see them feel confident about their situation based on changes they've made in their own life. Thanks for watching!
@@jbivphotography I hope they do come to Australia, I’ve been watching that space since you first mentioned it and there isn’t anything like it here. I was wondering if you have your preset edit style in imaginAI? I have been editing as close as I can to your style but I reckon it would be more consistent if it was using your algorithm?
Please teach me, I really want to start my photography career but have no idea where to start, i am 27 single mom currently homeless and wanting to make a future for me and my daughter. i really would love to do weddings/ family shoots. But what i am really passionate about is humans of new york style addressing the stigma around homelessness and the ignorance that comes with it. as well as a wake up call. I am looking for a mentor, how to start a business and what to do
