My wife and I really appreciate the level of detail you provide. In particular, your description of what certain shots should feel like has been very helpful.

Those break downs of real situations during play are really helpful as those are what we experience and process options during play. Might be good for adding views if you add the "i" logo for more info in depth how to breakdown of the techniques you are showing....ie roll over backhand softer placement shot. I'll search for vid on this looks so effective

Can you describe the decision process for backhand wrist flick vs ATP on that wide dink?

The dinks you’re seeing here are a bit deeper. ATPs are closer to the net generally

Always helpful! I have looked at a bunch of different folks on RU-vid, but I keep coming back to you. Fantastic. This video was just what I was looking for. I have a horrible habit of dinking a bit to high over the net. Just watching your form is so beneficial... and thank you to your pickleball partner.

I’m a beginner I’ve only been playing for 2 months! I’m falling in love with this sport. Your videos was the first to pop up in my search 🔍 bar. I really loved your technique and teaching style from the first video. I normally play about 3/4 days a week. How long would you suggest someone play before taking your Academy 😊

Right out of the gate was a real nugget for me on the wide Forehand dink. I have done the exact erroneous shot that you mention trying to put topspin on the ball but instead coming over top of it and hitting it into the net. 😝

Lately with so many ex tennis players starting to play pickleball, and these raw carbon fiber paddles, they are attacking even good thirds. Any suggestions? Thanks for the video
@TheBoydTV
@TheBoydTV 2 года назад
Personally, when I started experiencing that it meant I had to get my 3rds a little lower, possibly add some backspin, slow them down, or just get a better angle to on the 3rd toward the sideline--preferable to their backhand. Placement becomes really important as you're learning 3rds because as you've experienced, if they bounce even a little to high or go too deep (especially on their forehand) they can attack--getting your 3rd to go cross court, a little lower and slower, and to their backhand will go a long way to minimizing an attack :)

Do you ever hit the scorpion shot, in place of the side shift side arm shot?
@TheBoydTV
@TheBoydTV 2 года назад
I end up doing scorpion instead of the shift when the ball is coming back fast--its quicker to drop down and put the paddle up than slide over and side shot.
@dalevoigt8612
@dalevoigt8612 2 года назад
@@TheBoydTV To me it is also target dependent. For me it is easier to hit a cross court angle with the shift and hit. strait on that scorpion shot is super effective. It is also dependent on time and which body shot your opponent tried to hit you with.

The split step does not work, is old school. Look at your video of you doing it: you are off balance when you "try" to stop and never really get your balance before hitting the ball. One must learn to relax and hit the ball in whatever foot position one is in when the ball gets to you. Look at the pros: they are not taking the time and energy to split step. They don't have time to do it, as the pace of play is faster now.
