I dance Sean Nós and Irish Set Dance. My first dance shoes were a pair of what I believe are Capezio character shoes (idk the model name, nor could I find it on their website). Those shoes are perfect for set dancing and had a leather bottom and hard heels. But they weren’t perfect for Sean Nós dancing because the heels were too high. I dance in tap shoes now, but I want to get away from them. Taps are great for stage performances and pub dancing but not for the percussive, battering sounds. I’ve been in a search for new shoes for a while, and it’s tough. This is a great video and it got me thinking more about finding the right shoes. Those hybrid shoes blow my mind! 🤯🤗

I love your interest in dancing shoes. They're so integral to certain dance forms, including Irish hard shoe. I'm a Fay's gal, myself, though. I've most recently been trying to customize soft shoes to work for my feet, and am liking a different pair of Capezios as the base. It looks like your custom K360s don't have a flattened tip -- possibly an issue for those who do stuff on block. When looking further into dance shoes, I discovered The Pointe Shop, owned by someone who's even more obsessed with dance shoes than I am. Maybe that's a role that we need in Irish dancing: a shoe fitter, who knows the different brands inside out and can match the shoe to the dancer, rather than just finding the right size of the brand or two that they happen to sell.

Is there any reason you prefer leather sole rutherfords over suede sole?

Hey there! I feel like the leather sole has a little more durability than the suede sole. That's my main reason. It does take a little more time to break in however!

Very creative! Regarding hard shoes, how do you tell if they fit your feet right (not too small or large)? There’s surprisingly minimal information online about correct fit.

Tyler is there a difference in the basic shape between the male and female hard shoe? When I try to describe a females, Irish hard shoe to someone, the one thing I really stress is that there is a wedge of wood under the toes pushing them up. I find it very difficult to walk normally in Irish hard shoes, it is actually easier to skip than to walk for me are male shoes, the same way?

I’ve never heard of hard shoes being different for male vs female! Just soft shoe. If you go to Rutherford’s website they sell jig shoes, ghillies, and boys reel shoes
