@@BasiePlants I’m just a tad worried due to our winters! I have 2 wayetti 1 gracalis and 1 ds-70 so far! 🥰 also a general question! Are hoyas slow growers in the average uk climate?
Thank you for the warnings, particularly about HC Argentea Princess. She's been hanging out on my wish list for a while, but girlfriend isn't cheap. If I ever decided to cough up the money to buy her and she reverted, I'd probably sound a lot like the thunder in your video. I think, like a lot of princesses, she might be better admired from afar. Have a great week!
@@BasiePlantswhich bark and moss do you use? Undulata roots system so different than many ‘plain’ Hoyas! I’m obsessed about her ;)))) I have 2 rooting both very different! Thank you for this video!
At least I no now that even someone with WAY more knowledge than myself struggles with certain plants! I Check everyday to see if you have a new video. Looking forward to this weeks camp!
Ugh, with some the struggle Is real. Mitrata died before we could even get to know one another. Shepherdii hates me, variegated multiflora wants to unalive itself even in the best possible conditions. Sadly, I also killed my first spartiodes in record time. I did purchase a larger plant and so far, so good! Honorable mention goes to linearis, I love her and she also hates me.
Mitrata is okay for me :) But she is sometimes slow... Shepherdii... I don't like how she looks to be honest, maybe I will give her a trim and root more cuttings in the same pot, but she is an okay grower. Variegated multiflora does well here but she started to branch out for me and then drop every leaf on that new branch for reasons known only to God knows who xD My spartioides lost the roots but we are on the road to recovery :D I am very glad about tha because I love it and it is not easy to find. Linearis, I killed. Oooops.
Mitrata is the same as undulata in that you cannot let her get cold. Warm and humid is how it grows best. I forgot to bring mine in when a bit of cold came to FL and it crapped the can in no time.
I love this Hoya summer camp series. Right now I have a grow/die back relationship with Hoya serpens, my nemesis. I have had it 3 years and it might be smaller than when I started! The “beginner” Hoya I have struggled with are compacta, kerii and linearis. My bella always has spider mites!
Bella is generally a spider mite magnet. It will help to frequently shower her to knock off some of the mites, but eventually an actual treatment is necessary. Though, she is a vigorous grower, so she will recover fast :)
I didnt know the warm thing about Undulata. I kept mine by an open window in a Los Angeles winter and it was fine. Granted, the temp didnt get below 45º. Mine has bloomed for me but it's a very slow grower.
You are just naturally funny 😁 I did acquire the Peninsularis not too long ago. Can't say much about it as of now. It has started several grow points, but also killed off the first leaf it tried to push out. So that's that 🤷♀️ I would like to add the miserable being that was sold to me as Campanulata. Jesus, a creature that had less will to live has yet to be found. The plant is slowly dying, then growing a bit and dying back again. Yellowing leaves in between and after over a year not taller than 15cm. I might have started out with a bigger cutting than the miserable thing I now have. It has till the end of autumn to get its sh*t together or it'll end up in the dumpster. Seriously ☹️
I hope peninsularis grows much better for you! There are several clones out there, so I hope you have a faster growing one :D From what I read, the plant can be a bit irritating while it is establishing. ah yes. Campanulata... not easy at all! :D My plant grops leaves, grows huge vine, I get hopefull... I am trying it in pon now, in self-watering. I do believe issue is not giving it water on time. Thin-leaf hoyas aere a challenge like that.
Thanks so much for telling us which capricious divas to avoid as a beginner with Hoya. Truest thing you said…there are so many other ones to try and work with!🌿 My little H.lacunosa has been just sitting there watching me for the last 10 months…is she waiting to be on your list 🤔
@@BasiePlantsafter watching the video on watering I stepped it up, that should help. Shes doing ok but not growing, no mites 😅 I think I was not watering her enough, I dread root rot Uncle Miro’s help might just be what was needed! Thank you 🤗
Im only a year into the hoya obsession but I have a few now (36). I dont have anything rare or too expensive but serpens is a real struggle for me. She grows a vine puts out baby leaves and then gives up totally and repeat! I watch all your videos and really enjoy them they are great!
For me, Hoya lacunosa is killing me!! Bought 3-4 plants ($200 later) and could not keep them alive. BUT, I have several other hoya some of which are HUGE and beautiful :) Thank you for this awesome video.
They hate me. lol It’s literally my third or fourth one. And I have so many other different kinds. But, such as life. I am a new subscriber from Los Angeles, California and absolutely love listening to you. You have a fantastic demeanor and I actually learn a lot as well. I’ve been into Hoya and Romi’s for years. I only have about 10 different kinds of Hoya, but I’ve had them for several years most of them growing outside even in 110° and drought conditions. But the lacunosa kills me!! 😊
I'm loving the summer camp, great idea! Undulata's been on my wishlist for a long time and I think she'll stay there while longer together with Versteegii. I like plants to be pretty buch I also prefer not to have to give them cpr too often.
I am glad you do! This video is not part of it :D But it does fit well I suppose xD Maybe I should add it to the playlist? I just got versteegii so I don't yet have much experience with it. I think they are okay to get, but I would definitely practice on some cheaper hoyas first :D
Sooo I have yeeted all of my Rotundiflora. It’s reasonably easy to grow but the leaf shape and texture is just a wonderland for mealiebugs and some of the nastiest infestations I’ve ever seen were on them despite trying a few times. Also my chicken farm hasn’t done anything in forever.
Oh interesting about rotundiflora! I never had that issue with her. Hoya finlaysonii (Chicken Farm) can sometimes be slower - for me it does best in the tent. It gets very pretty with more humidity and more regular watering. Mine was not doing much out of the tent either as I tend to underwater too.
I'm soo glad my Undulata doesn't know about this special requirements ;) I hope that doesn't change! She's with me from 8 month, I get it with one leaf and roots. Now she has 8 BIG leaf - 2 next on the way (about 20 cm) and "stem" (mayby 40 cm), grow in mix from seller (I must say its great mix of perlite, coconut, some vulcanic, brick and dont know what else). She's under "market" LED stripes 6500k (10 h by day) + mayby 2 hours east sun morning. Humidity about 48-58 %. I am brave (or crazy :P ) and bought Hoya Imricata - it doesn't look to good now and i think i will kill her. She has one smal leaf and no roots and... she broke :P I made "bandage" on her but I dont know she will alive :p I think Imbricata its another "not begginer" hoya :) I am definitely a beginner in general ;)
I have an aff. microphylla; have you heard anything on it? So far, it’s been a chill plant. Received as a cutting and it rooted well and is starting to grow for me.
Miro I have no issues with coffee at night, I always manage to sleep😻. I just love your videos I do hope you had an amazing weekend which is probably Monday your time. I'm more of a small leaf hoya kind of girl.
Thank you for the info. The microphylla would be one I’d love and it’d break my heart. I do my best with new plants but if they aren’t happy here I let them go. Sometimes I’ll try again if I really love it but only give those 3 chances tops. The brazil and carnosa argentea princess were a surprise, revert, revert revert revert. 😂 The NS-12 is calling my name. What a gorgeous plant.
NS12-323 is really a gorgeous plant, so easy to grow :) It has not bloomed for anyone yet, so it will be fun to see that when she eventually does :) Microphylla just requires patience :D
Enjoy coffee anytime 😊 I struggle with hoya lucardenasiana.. she's a real pain.. 😂 on a side note.. Miro I just look sooo forward to any of your videos.. have a super day/week 👍🌱👏
Nice vid, again! Buuuuut is that Dischidia hirsuta i saw in the part where you talk about H. medinillifolia? That plant is sooo cute! I have a small cutting and can't wait for her to grow en develop flowers. (sorry for this off topic comment XD)
Hi Miro 💫 What a wonderful video. I needed a good chuckle and you granted my wish 💫Thank you so much. I will say though, seeing a difficult diva plant makes me want to try it! 😊On that note, My Shepherdii is currently giving me issues. No bugs that I can see, no change in watering since I’ve gotten her, no temp changes, no substrate changes but she’s dropping whole leaves with full color???? I have no idea what she wants any help is appreciated.
hahaha I am also like that XD I start to think.. but maybe she will like me! It is rarely the case :D That does sound like mites with shepherdii. I would treat with a miticide, or sulphur...
@@BasiePlants Oh dear… never had to deal with any pest issues after I got the fungus gnat situation figured out with no soil. Oh Lordy, now I’m scared 😱 but I’ll get it treated. I should probably treat all the nearby plants as well?
I am so sorry that happened to you but also I am glad I am not alone in this xD I thought about getting another one and then mine decided to start growing. If it drops leaves one more time, I will make a video burning what is left xD
Are you going to laugh when I say I struggle with carnosas ? It is embarrassing , but I love them so much and keep trying and somewhat failing , lolol . And I get up onto my feet , brush the dust ( soil , pon , bark ) off my pants , and try again .
Hi Miro, The most difficult hoya in my care right now it the manipurensis. Can't seem to make it happy. Also, I was unable to keep my insularis alive..will wait before I try that one again.
I have a cutting of that one - so far, okay :) We will see how she will grow! Insularis, I killed one, but I blame that on three week long shipping and root mealybugs.
@@BasiePlants I think I will move the mani into the terrarium to see if more humidity works. It is under a grow light now, but the leaves are not good-yellowing. The light in the terrarium is not so bright so maybe the change will help.
Oh yeah that rintzii borneo hoya was not fun, so pretty though. I was considering buying hoya undulata, but not will pass since I don’t live in a warm area, and don’t have a cabinet/tent. 😅
Are you also a victim of Hoya rintzii? :S Maybe you can try undulata with the help of a heat mat? Though, that really is maybe too much effort for one plant.
Is there any study to support this aside from anecdotal evidence? I know sillica makes the leaves stronger and more resistant to pests, but I have not heard it being used to bring back variegation. I do not want to make them stronger in silver LMAO :D
agree on all of them. Especially rintzii borneo hunts me. She is beautiful but I hate her :D Lastly argent. princess is on my wishlist but I never got her because of exactly this fear of reverting. Maybe if prices go more down I will risk it
I feel you with rintzii. It's really a shame for such a beauty to be such a B. xD I think Argentea Princess will be worth the risk when she gets down to $50 xD
You’ve probably answered this before but why don’t you try pon in no drainage instead of the self watering setup? Have you tried no drainage and had bad luck? I find that my Hoya love it.
There could be issue of mineral buildup over time in that case as pon either comes fertilized or you add fertilizer with watering. Also, I find that lava rock tends to be quite dusty, even after rinsed. I personally wouldn't do it, especially for more expensive and uncommon hoya.
Macrophylla is my problem child. I finally stuck her in a moss prop box. Now she's coming to life finally, but im scared to take her out of the box. Oh the struggles of being a hoya parent. 😂
I was given a cutting in June from a Crassipetiolata splash from my mil which her plant is almost 30 yrs old. It has never been repotted and grows like crazy and blooms all the time w a musky smell. My cuttings rooted pretty quickly and next week will be transplanting to coco peat. That was my first Hoya. Since then I have purchased 6 more and am on the look out for more. Love your channel. I am in the US. Do you have this Hoya?
Hoya crassipetiolata is a wonderful hoya! I have the splashy version too, I love how those leaves are full of splash, some even go to full silver. My plant is a about a year old now, I hope to see the blooms on it soon :)
@@BasiePlants I looked at more pictures of this Hoya and it is not the splash. The normal one has some splash to it but the splash one has it all over. But we learn
My Medinifollia came as a cutting. It rooted great. And then suddenly yellowed and died over the course of 2 days. It's so pretty but too pricey to try again.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Mine came as 1 node 2 leaves, and she took about a month to root thoroughly. But not only is she pricey, she is not available a lot of the time either :/
@@BasiePlants I somewhow missed this comment! Well it looks like yours is growing beautifully now from your growtent tour. And I just got a 2nd one to try. Best of luck to us both!
So funny video 😂😂😂 not because your struggles! I dont enjoy the pain! Just because you have great sense of humor and how to grow hoyas different way? Not posible! Especialy when they are evil 😅😅😅 And that storm outside was just like in movie clip, supercell breaking windows and taking roofs off 😱 -but no, Miro is making a video and he can't stop filming!!! 😅😁
Thank you for this video , I thoroughly enjoyed it as I do every one of your videos , my goodness your patron list is lengthening . May I ask, with your moss / bark you will restart your undulata , are you referring to long strands of sphagnum ?
My problem is my 3 leaf Caudata Sumatra. It hadn’t grown in a year and you suggested more humidity. I put it out on my screen porch where humidity is about 80%. It worked. A long vine started coming out. I got all excited. Now it wilted for about the top couple inches. Should I cut the vine off? Thanks Miro. 🌱💚🌱
You can cut the wilted part. Make sure to treat her for mites. Aside from humidity, they also like to be watered :) Caudata is not the hoya to underwater :)
I do have a video on Hoya caudata in 30 days of hoya :) They are pretty easy in my opion, especially the larger flowered clones like caudata from Sumatra :) They don't like to dry out and will do well in medium humidity (50% or more) and medium light :)
I sit here hoping you don’t say one of the Hoya I have, as all but one is doing great… ooooo that tiny Hoya microphylla- I may need that one… flowers are cute! Whoo- I’m okay lol- 😅 now I’m off to find that hoya… thank you sir!
@@BasiePlants why should I be sticking to a point? I hear all you say/warn. But see that becomes a challenge for me to overcome. I’m not a sadist I’m not doing all of the Hoyas you’d said not to do, just one. 🫠
"There are people on this world, on this planet who are very lucky. Don't think that you're one of those people ok?" lol I wondered why my rintzii wasn't growing, I really am not one of those people hahaha. Thanks for the good laugh again.
I never want to see Hoya Sigillatus again. Never! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Oh, what was that thunder?? Seriously, never. I saw one again today and I’m over it, but just never again.
😂 Hoya sigillatis can be pretty rough. But I do love my clones xD One of my favorites! :D She can be very misunderstood and very finicky you get her wrong :S
I am receiving a cutting of Hoya medinillifolia soon. I am curious to know if you rooted yours in pumice or rooted another way and then transferred to pumice? Wish me luck lol! On another note, I grow my undulata in leca in self watering set up and (fingers crossed) have never had an issue for the past 2 years. I had 2 of them but sold one. Both in the same set up. Could be worth trying.
I rooted mine in pumice and left it in pumice :D Some people grow her in regular mix but I am not willing to experiment with her if I can help it. So, just pumice + propbox. It took a month, but it rooted. Yes, my undulata did great in LECA :) But I don't grow in LECA anymore.
Yes :) Some anecdotal experience says once it reverts to full silver, it can become variegated again, so we will see with my own plant. Though I don't believe Nova Ghosts that have been growing silver for a long time can become so easily variegated again. They may sport a variegated vine though, but I haven't heard of that happening.
I prayed to God that Rintzi wouldn't be on this list😂 how evil I ordered a slice of this hoya yesterday. Well, nothing. At least a year will grow for me😂
