@@Mountainrock70 I always thought leghorns were bigger than that and after your reply I looked them up and your right 7.6 pounds for roosters. Wow. I learned.
We call cornish cross Frankenstein chickens. I have raised and butchered them. Never seen a more lazy or dirty chicken. Just sit on their breast and eat and poop and lay back down in the poop. I had them in chicken tractors and moved them everyday to a clean place but they still got nasty. Will not raise them again. Rhode Island reds are my favorite.
Don't forget "Coucou de Malines" breed. It is a large producer of very fine white flesh that can be fattened around the age of 3 months to give large tender chickens.
artificial intelligence on chicken buying for your farm ??? Leg horns dont like staying in a coup very long. and disapear into the woods and not come back..
We all have our opinions and personal experience but overall a good video. Brief enough to hold interest but enough basic information to help a beginner.
Jersey Giants take 9 months to fully mature. They are a slow bird. Plymouth rock is much faster but not nearly as big. Brahmas are almost as big as a Jersey Giant and are slow birds as well Both Giants and Brahmas are not great eggers. 140 160 a year. Plymouth rock is your egg bird at 280 but not as big and faster maturing. All 3 of these breeds are known gentle birds.
I'll have to disagree about Brahmas. I'm a backyard Breeder and My Brahmas crank out about 300 a year. They do grow slowly, that's for sure. My Roosters are at about 18 months when they get finished out and take their job seriously.
@@jmearley4872 I have Giants and Brahmas. I'm getting eggs every day from them(individual hens) and they are all large to extra large(Giants). Both breeds are docile large birds...
@gregzeigler3850 Agreed. I've been breeding Buff Brahmas as a business for 8 years steady. Bred others but settled in to Brahmas because of their temperament and intelligence. The roosters, once they get past the terrible teens are amazing.
@@jmearley4872 Yeah, my Buff Brahma rooster is a bit of a hassle(can't say the same for my Jersey Giant rooster), but I like them both. The hens of both are quite sweet and affectionate. I've had Jersey Giants before and I liked the breed. First time raising Brahmas. Regardless, what the other guy was saying, I'm getting pretty good egg production out of them. Not as good as say White Rocks, but pretty close.
@gregzeigler3850 Oh yeah, and mine may drop back one egg a week in the shorter days. Trust me, I've made serious life lesson mistakes with my first rooster. He raked me from my cheek to just above my knee. I disrespected his role in front of his girls, he sent us both a message. When we both knew it was time, he crawled up in to my lap to die. His son did the same. All our chickens live their life out here in retirement. Each one gets a significant tree or bush to feed.
@@judyreynolds305 Update on my Bielefelders Made them meat . After 2 years the eggs went from 3 dozen a day down to 6 eggs a day . Going to try different breed

Cornish Cross chickens will eat themselves to death. I no longer raise them. 2021 birds..I lost over half in 1st 3 weeks. 2020..lost about a 1/3 of them.
This is the more ridiculous list ever. The fact that indian game isn't 1st or 2nd or even on this list is a joke. Who ever made this video give your head a shake and raise some chicks
Not one ounce of useful information from this generic video, like a comparison of weight, taste or age to slaughter, or where you can find and raise these chicken breeds. What objective criteria were even used to make up this list? Another of these computer voice video with AI written script.
THIS WAS A VERY GOOD VIDEO FOR EXPLAINING JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT A FIRST TIME CHICKEN GROWER WOOD NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHICKEN BREEDS & MAY EVAN HELP YOU DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.
@@rebeccaplumlee9601 it's all cap LoL . Edit : i wanted to make a joke , but I guess you may not get it . So this person commented in all cap , that is , they are being sarcastic ( i hope )
No guy, that's what happens when you use AI to write your script. Look at the expressions used. "The fact of the matter" is that I still wonder what is "quite the opposite" of a cross between chicken and turkey...
