Hey guys! I wanted to add in to the conversation here that I should have pointed out in the video that I ordered these books over the course of a few months and because I work as a designer, part of my job is to purchase books on behalf of my clients, so some of these books will end up in upcoming home projects and others will stay with me as a resource to my work and as a source of inspiration. I thought it would be fun to share all these great finds with you guys so you could pick and choose which one (or none) might be a good fit for you or simply be inspired to visit your local library or thrift store. I hope more than anything that at a time when we aren't able to travel, explore, and meet new people and places that we will look to our books to take us places.

You don’t need to justify spending your hard earned money on expensive books. People need to calm down. 🙄 Would a carpenter be judged for buying tools ...this is dearly part of your work not just for decor. Books are my substitute travel too. I loved this episode, please do more. I have had my eye on The DeGourney book for a while but was reluctant to purchase as its pricey, but I do love their wallpapers (not that I could afford them, lol). As there were not many images of the contents of the book online I was put off from purchasing, but now I have just ordered a copy. Thank you!

I am in the midst of transforming our small backyard into a European inspired patio garden. Another great video! We are in sync, I have some of the books you highlighted and now have more to add to my collection. I also love Monty Don! Your enthusiasm for travel is infectious, I cannot wait to explore the world again. Morocco and Turkey are on my bucket list, I must make that happen! I’ve found my best way to learn is to look at as many pictures as possible, analyse what I like, don’t like and what’s effective then deep dive into why it works. There’s so many common techniques used in what works. I’ve done that for creating ornamental quilting designs and I’m now doing that for interior design. It’s working so well that when my niece sent me a picture of a room, I analysed it instantly but it took me about 30 mins to put it in an email. She loves your channel.

I just love your enthusiasm! Maybe it's because we're are trying to decide whether to move or remodel, but I've discovered more coffee table/design books this year than ever before. Those with great pics and a little self help are usually my preference. I may be behind, but right now, I'm enjoying: The Finer Things, both Elements of Style, Vern Yips Design Wise and his Vacation at Home book and because summer is coming, I picked up In Bloom: Growing, Harvesting and Arranging flowers all year round. At last, my very needed vlog! Good collection for sure. And yes, never stop exploring and dreaming. I have a large collection of interiors books which I have bought over the years - including the Colefax and Fowler and Nicky Haslam titles you mention. I have been lucky enough to find nearly all of them quite cheaply - some 2nd hand on Amazon and many in charity shops (the only problem with buying books there is having to carry them home!) They are my inspiration and I love looking through them, but I don’t really get the concept of ‘coffee table books’ - I keep mine on shelves, unless I am actually reading one of them, when it may rest on a coffee table for a while. It may be because I was a librarian for many years and books are more than just decoration to me!

I love coffee table books. Oh and Black and white.

Great video! Thank you! An unrelated idea for a video about home office. Since beginning of the pandemic, many of us were forced to work from home. Organising a practical yet esthetic home office has been a challenge for me. Not many of us have the luxury of having separate space for the home office and combining it with a living room or bedroom in a cohesive way has been quite difficult. How/where to put an ugly scanner/printer, documents that you access during the working day, cables, cords under the table do not make this task any easie eitherr.

I read down below the person who unsubscribed from you because you are too expensive , can afford books, travel and decor items. You know.... that is so sad that someone willingly cuts themselves off from beauty and inspiration. You said several times that these books 'fill your soul'. Beauty does that! For those without jobs and money, go to the library and fill your soul with beauty. Allow yourself to dream and be inspired by lovely images. Armchair travel can remove you (for however briefly) from your everyday, hum drum life and make you smile. I am like Valentina: hugging the books because they bring her such joy. We don't all have the finances to visit the places we see in books, but that does not mean that we should not at least look at the images of the beauty that is all around us... whether next door, or in far flung places. Second hand stores, libraries and even flea markets can reveal stunning, inspiring books for little to nothing. Fill your soul! Take joy in the images of beauty.

I really feel bad that my good intentions in sharing such wonderful finds would cause anyone hurt. I go often to thrift stores, estate sales, and garage sales and find beautiful books. I hope more than anything that others will feel inspired to travel the world with a good book. It definitely doesn't have to be one of these!

I don't think she was talking about the books. I think she was talking about saying, in the title, that you spent that very amount on coffee table books. Thanks to God, I have a job and I can afford some books, but it is easy for me to see that lots of people can't, especially right now. Valentina doesn't mean to hurt and it was nice of her to take the amount from the title. Problem solved! I believe we all agree that beauty and books are wonderful things.

I love your videos and you do inspire me Valentina, but sadly this one missed the mark for me. It does seem a bit obnoxious to be sharing that you’ve spent $1,000. on decor books. In the future, you may want to leave out the amount you spent and simply share your inspirations. Love your enthusiasm and I’ll look forward to what’s next!

I appreciate you and some of the others letting me know. I've adjusted the title. I never meant to alarm or offend with my title. I get so excited about my work and I love to share from it. Many of these books will pass through my home briefly as they go on to my clients' homes and some will stay as a resource to my work and to my own journey. I also look at thrift stores, garage sales, and of course, the library, to find books that are not only affordable but transformative and take me somewhere new. I deeply apologize for any offense I have caused by not explaining that in the video.

We hope that this will be a benefit we can offer to our subscribers to help them narrow down the choices. We work with a lot of clients who will add these books to their collection, maybe one or two at a time, so you will see these lovely books in upcoming room makeovers. I should have said that in the video but was so excited to share!

It's ok that she has it. It is their money and she seems to live a happy life. But, I see your point. I don't like his obsession with 'expensive'. People who don't even have a job desperately trying to look like they have lots of money, thinking they need those things to be happy. This 'me me me' thinking of today and the fake caring for others. I love books and pretty things, but only God can feed my soul. It is an endless hole that could never be filled with things, no matter how rich you are.

Why are you surprised? Are you her accountant? Just because you can't afford to buy something, does that mean that no one should buy it? wow! Jealousy is not attractive!
