Brother, i watch most of the top youtube channels on gardening and i must say hands down you provide the most accurate, helpful and relevant info out there. I especially like how you debunk common myths. Props to you bud!🎉🎉🎉
Hi, I can send you some party time seeds from UK if you would redistribute them, no money, just volunteering my help for your comunity, I would only spend £10, (which gives 50 seeds).
So I have a cucumber plant that I got at our local high school, I have no idea what kind it is. It has all female flowers. Was transplanted on 5/8. There are at least 15 female flowers and zero males. And of course I only have one plant. Any ideas? Or am I just gonna be out of luck?
Been growing China Jade for a few years in hot and humid summers of Sugar Land, Texas (near Houston) for years. Very easy to grow and super productive in this climate. Thanks for great info as usual! Looking forward to trying the Party Time cukes when they’re back in stock.
Thank you for sharing your valuable information. I have noticed the shortage of bees lately. My remedy has been Mason Bee houses. Also planning falll parsley and yarrow when they go to flower I have Mason Bees all over them. 😁
I have to grow Armenian cucumbers, it is so hot and dry that cukes come out SO BITTER unless you have a well ventilated green house to hold in humidity.
I got Beit Alpha last year after hearing about from you, and planted it in spring, and it has been crazy. I’ve given away cukes to all my family, friends and neighbors. Just six plants have produced dozens of cucumbers. It’s still producing strong and I’ve made a succession planting that is just starting to flower. This has been my best cucumber crop ever. The idea of a better variety is mind boggling. Thanks for the info.
Two years ago, you mentioned that growing monoecious cucumbers along with parthenocarpic cucumbers would destroy the quality of the parthenocarpic cucumbers. Is that still the case?
Your cucumbers are amazing. What type of mulch are you using and how do you prevent powdery mildew? I’m trying zucchini and yellow squash this year and cannot get them to pollinate. I’ve tried doing it myself and still no luck. Also big problem with powdery mildew. Any advice would be great. Thanks. Oh I’m in San Diego Ca.
Help! I have bought mini me cucumber seeds (park seed)…then ordered party time when they became available again. Can I plant these two types close together or will it mess up because of growing two types near each other? Thank you. I love your channel…it’s my favorite!
No. There is no such thing as GMO seeds sold to residents. You have to be a huge farm and sign huge contracts to get GMO seed, and you cannot give it out. If you had GMO seed, you could be sued by the companies. It's their property. No seed sold in packets or online is going to be GMO, and "non-GMO" labels are a scam designed to get people to pay more for seeds. They're all non-GMO.
Does anyone know where to buy a parthenocarpic cucumber plants or seeds? I have no bees in my area. And my husband is allergic to bees, so we have to bee careful😂.
I really like Chelsea prize English cucumber- parthenocarpic and all female flowers... the cucumber beetles dont seem to prefer them and they produce like none other - at this rate this year ill be supplying the grocery store with them 😂 On another note, have you been seeing squash lady beetles ? I noticed more than a few out here in NC.
Been loving your channel for years, but theres some confusion on a couple things, in another one of your videos about the beit alpha you said it was genicious and parthenocarpic and also said you cant grow any other varieties anywhere near it or they would be inedible . Did you find this to be untrue? Because now you are growing it with other varieties and said they have male flowers also. Can you please clear that up for us? thanks bud
... hmmm ... l'm just starting out, but your video caused me to take a peek @ my 3 different types of cucumber seed packages (tendergreen burpless, spring burpless, & cucumber slicer), & would u believe it, none of them are identified as the names u mentioned ... o gosh ... guess l've just gotta cross my fingers & hope for the best (??) ... still, thank u !!! ... ❤😊❤
Video Request! :) Would love to see you do a video with native leafcutter bees (super easy to do FYI) and see if they have any impact on your garden. Plus its a native bee that does great in our region and pollinates way better than honey bees, and if they do sting the mosquito bite is worse because of how small the stinger is.
I had Party Time on my "to buy" for 2024, so it was great to hear your views. China Jade is also in my list. Thanks for the thorough input. Do you have any favorite seed suppliers?
Have you ever grown Salad Bush? It has a decent resistance to powdery mildew & produces multitudes of great, full sized cakes on a bush plant. I’ve been growing it for a couple of years now & have had great success here in Denver, CO.
You have so much knowledge and I am blessed to have found you. That being said your constant baggering us to buy your products is a big turn off. You have an enormous following. You should be doing extremely well. Thank you for sharing all you know.
@@TheMillennialGardener you get a “small commission”. Off Amazon n other products if people use your site to purchase. Is that not true? It is on others channels. Cause they tell us how it works.
He gets practically nothing from Amazon. He puts it out there because he constantly is asked where he gets things from. It is more a convenience to us!! Thank you MG!
@@lindawebb567 did I not say “small commission”. He starts n ends with “ click on links”. It all adds up. Glad he gets a commission. He deserves it but geez. Seems like a tv ad anymore.
Thank you so much for this information. I’m in the uk and have just bought a pkt of party time cucumber seeds from eBay for £2.75 with free postage and packaging. The stamp on its own would be £1.25.
Awesome! Def will try these this Fall or next year. I grew Lemon Cucumber this year, which were extremely prolific and flavorful, but with tons of seeds.
You cannot buy GMO seeds. You need to be a giant farm and sign contracts to get GMO seed. No seed sold for residential purposes is GMO. People caught with GMO seed can be sued. It is tightly controlled property.
omg, I'm depressed. My cukes in ATL are still about 6 inches tall!!! I started them from seed this year and they look healthy, just taking a long time to grow. Patience and more fertilizer!
I planted the partytime cucumber about 6 weeks ago and they are sooo productive and absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to order more once they are in stock again.
Usually, yes, but in the case of parthenocarpic varieties, no. Pollinated fruits produce seeds. Unfertilized parthenocarpic fruits that persist are seedless, so pollination will affect a parthenocarpic fruit.
I do not prune cucumbers. The only time I'll touch the plants is if there are diseased leaves, which hasn't started yet. I believe the scent released when you prune cucurbits attracts pests, so I try and minimize pruning.
I'm going to watch out for Party Time, maybe next year if I can't get them in time for this year. I actually was offered some lemon cucumbers today, but I've never had them before and I'm out of room at the moment until I do my next succession planting. I just plant way too many tomatoes!
After watching this video I went to Burpee’s site and found Party Time sold out. But they did have these: “Cucumber, Merlin Hybrid 4.8 out of 5 stars. Read reviews for average rating value is 4.8 of 5. Expect a bounty of sweet, crispy cukes for slicing and snacking. A sweet snacker that quickly works its magic in the garden: early maturing and high yielding! Crispy, 5-7” cucumbers taste incredible sliced on salads. Vining plants with good disease resistance produce 1-2 fruits per node every few days. All female-flowering type requires no pollination for fruiting.”
Until last week here in cosstal zone 10 I was rolling along with a fabulous cucumber crop when suddenly the plants yellowed up and died -- root knot nematodes. Dang.
You didn't say how the China Jade taste. It looks like the Suyo Long variety I grow. My bees are not doing a very good job this year and I am having a hard time remembering to hand pollinate so I would like to try the China Jade if it does not get bitter.
They all taste good. I don't detect that much difference in cucumber taste. Cucumbers are a textural experience for me since the flavor is so very mild. I grow cucumbers based on crispness and texture. I like very snappy, crunchy cucumbers.
Great vid! If you can get access to an Australian heirloom variety called "Richmond Green Apple" it's a fantastic one to try too. Great flavour, unusual shape and the perfect size for snack/lunch boxes
I am growing suyo long which is documented as being parthenocarpic. I tried using organza bags to prevent pollination and try to get seedless cucumbers. I suspected it might not have been that easy and my experiment was a fail. Have you figured out how to do this yet? If so I would love to see a video on the process. Keep up all the great video content! All your fig tree progress inspired me and I now have five fig trees in two different varieties from cuttings on our own property! Thank you for that!
Hybrids are natural. All a hybrid is is the offspring of two plants that cross-pollinated. That is what all plants in nature do, and it's how genetic diversity occurs. What is not natural are heirlooms. There are no heirlooms in nature. Heirlooms only exist from human preservation. You're probably specifically referring to GMO, which you cannot buy. You have to sign legal contracts to buy GMO seed, and you'll probably have to spend incredible amounts of money to do so. No seed packets are GMO.
Thank you for your discussion on varieties. My first 15 cukes were pickled yesterday. My first EVER successful harvest of more than 1 sickly yellow fruit... I've learned so much from you and your videos!🤗🌻🥒🌻🤗
OUTSTANDING! Never let a cucumber get yellow...or anywhere close to even thinking about turning yellow. The more you pick, the more you get! Pick early and often and you'll have more cucumbers than Vlasic!
I have party time growing and am getting a lot of dud females that are drying up and dying. My first flower made a beautiful, delicious cucumber and now the vines have at least 10 of the next flowers drying up. What am I doing wrong?? 😞 It is in a raised bed about 18"x18"......I have 2 plants in there. Perhaps that's too many in one pot? I have them vining along a fence instead of vertical. I am so jealous!!!! I am in north Louisiana zone 8b.
As long as you got far enough ahead of the heat, they should. I would recommend you get yourself 30-40% shade cloth to cover them. I see it's 101 in Canyon Lake this week. I have very inexpensive shade cloth linked in my Amazon Storefront in the video description under Garden Accessories if you need some. I have several tarps in my shed just in case.
@@TheMillennialGardener Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, other than a couple of lemon cucumber vines that are already about 7 feet tall, the rest are just coming out of the seed trays today…the China Jade sprouted last week and the Beit Alpha, just yesterday.. I have tons of shade cloth, though it may be a bit much for most parts of the country, I do use it here (70 something %), and it has been the only salvation for a couple of tomato plants into fall production, over the last couple of years. Of yeah…the monsoon season has likely given way to the (all-of-a-sudden) hellish heat of Texas summer! Happy gardening to you and Dale!💞
Thank you for all the gardening videos and gardening tips. Keep it up 👍 I learned a lot now on Garden thanks now I have my own garden now. Your videos really help 🙏👍 🪴
Very few open pollinated cucumbers do well, here. The only two that stand out that I still grow are China Jade and Suyo Long, which are Asian cucumbers. I've never found a non-Asian open pollinated cucumber worth growing. The parthenocarpic F1 hybrid cucumbers are so vastly superior, that's all I grow now except for those two Asian types.
I'll have to give the Party Time variety a try next year. I went with one called Katrina F1 which is also parthenocarpic. It seemed to take a little while to develop any female flowers, but it's going pretty crazy now.
I always like/love your videos...Beit alpha here on your recommendation way back when...I have a request..Could you do a video on the most heat/disease resistant zucchini variety? I have a heck of a time with those! Thanks (8A AR)
I'm just starting to get into gardening this year. I got a couple Bonnie bush hybrid plants from either lowes or HDepot. I guess they're parthenocarpic because they've been producing fairly well and I don't see any bees. I only transplanted them into a 7 gal grow bag and I used that cheap potting soil. The potting soil doesn't hold moister at all so I'm watering every morning and had to water in the evening a couple times. I'm in Manvel Tx. and it's getting to the mid 90's here. Plants are doing good so far. I'm trying different cucumbers types and have some seedlings growing that will be up potted soon..
I have been using a lot of Burpee products and never been disappointed. I’m happy to see they are carrying this new brand of Cucumbers. I will definitely be growing some Thank You.
We really enjoy your videos. Do you sell the party time cucumbers seeds? Or have a suggested seed seller? Ha Ha, I should have waited to watch the whole video !!! Thanks for the info brother.
One of my favorites isn't as productive, but it has a wonderful color so it's easy to see before it gets too old. The heirloom variety silver slicer from baker creek.
I bought mine from Hudson Valley Seed Co. I'm excited to grow them this year since a lot of people say they don't seem to get bitter as fast as the other varieties can when it starts to get hot outside. It doesn't take long for spring to turn to summer here. I live in Texas, a little south of Houston. Spring can go from 60°f to 80°f plus very quickly.
Fruit ovules will almost always still be visible with parthenocarpic cultivars, but simply won't fill out to become seed. It's normal. No ovules in some areas is also normal in parthenocarpic cultivars. At the size you show that variety party time, there would normally be full seeds that are clearly full seeds. Those ovules aren't full meaning it wasn't pollinated. This was frustrating for me in the beginning with my parthenocarpic tomato lines. Best.
Dude, you're amazing. I'd say,, when I grow up, I want be like you, but I am probably tiwce your age. Lovely presentation. You talk like a prepared bulleted list of succinct points. I have checked out about dozen channels, and you just get right to it the best. 1,000 likes. Lost my garden to a hurricane, and shocking new food prices are sending back to Mother Earth. Old school on most things, but this is gallaxies beyond talking seeds out of store-bought cuc's, and struggling. And FWIW, the AI (Auto Pilot) says Party Time is parthenocarpic.
Hey brother where do you find your hardwood mulch? I've checked the feed stores and building supply stores in my area and I can't find any. I like the idea of using hardwood natural mulch rather than the colored unnatural mulch.
First I thank you because you explain good , second there is no secrets in your garden . There for I ask you kindly to tel us WHAT THE BEST FERTILIZER FIR CUCUMBER ? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💐
I just made a jar of pickled jalapenos and cucumbers last night. Took about 5 minutes total. Slice fruits, place in mason jar, add a tiny handful of black peppercorns and mustard seeds, sprinkle some of Trader Joe's pickle seasoning, bring 1 cup of water+1 cup white vinegar + 1 tsp salt to a boil, pour over the fruits, cap, stick in fridge. Done!
Thanks for all your great videos . Since I couldn’t get my hands on Party Time I did find a cucumber from the store I ordered the Early Prince’s from, Tomato Growers, and I am very excited about it. It’s called Crispy Crunchy Hybrid! States it’s hard to find in the states and doesn’t need pollination. Have you ever tried this one?
Make pickles or can them. I grow hundreds of cucumbers every year. I use old time pickling methods. Now I'm steadly intouch with friends and family i never knew i had. "Oh and by the way do you have any jars of pickles left" theme of every conversation!
Yes. They're outstanding. Just make sure you don't let them get too large, or they can get tough. I like them when they're about 1.5 inches in diameter.
