I adore the Reclusians, from models to lore. They look the part of grizzled, worn out veterans. Even the paintjob accentuates their grittiness. I'm not super sold on the Memorians yet aesthetically, even if their lore absolutely rules. Mostly just how their clothes and armour hides their features and makes them look a bit faceless. But they look grim for a grim job, essentially tending to their friends/ancestors with alzheimer's.
This might be a bit morbid, but as someone whose mother has alzheimer’s, I feel a weird kind of kinship with these models. The whole idea of a stormcast carrying around a mess of paper and relying on a family member to try to hold on to memories hits very close to home in a way that is somehow simultaneously triggering and comforting. I can see a Reclusian asking the same question over and over again, with the Memorian calmly reminding them every time that the answer is written on the third scroll on the left. It’s familiar, is what it is. And, well, at least it’s not a question what I’ll call mine when I get her.
I'm sorry you're going through that. When my Nan had a stroke towards the end of her life she forgot who I was, and had to be reminded/reassured whenever I visited. It's an incredibly difficult thing to navigate both practically and emotionally. I hope you're both doing ok!
When grandpa kicked a rat so hard that Hammer Jesus decided to resurrect him into a space marine but he’s died so many times that you have to follow his dementia-ridden-ass around and remind him to take his pills.
I imagine that this relationshop kind of goes like Terminator 2 on a day to day basis. "You can't just go around killing people!" "Why? "You just can't OK!"
Apparently the parchment reads " if this Stormcast decides to roam, box it's ears and send it home to c/o Sigmar, 1, Azyr, The Realm Celestial. " and also their name and Wi-Fi password
Hi! My name is: Jorg The Indomitable. Please be patient with me, I have: died 269 times and lost a big chunk of my soul. If you find me, please send lead me to your local authority and contact: Sigmar, God of War
I love these models. The amount of details clustered together in such a tight area scares me a little bit, but if the rest of the Ruination Chamber looks *this* good, between this and the new Skaven. . . oh boy my wallet is *NOT* going to have a fun summer! Though to follow up/comment on some of the points you made in the video. First, alot of the decorations you made comments on are already established elements of modern Stormcast design. You called special attention to the belt-buckle, look at the belt-buckles of the Annihilators. You'll find that they're quite similar, if not the same shape. Second, the parchment has been a Stormcast thing since 1st Edition. GW has always given Stormcast "purity seal" equivalents. Third, I agree with you about the "Space Marine Pauldron" thing, that's where my mind went to as well. So I'm glad to know that I wasn't alone in thinking that. Fourth, you mentioned you didn't like the knee on one of them. But GW has given similar knee decoration to other modern Stormcast. Once again, look at the Annihilators, the right knee of *every* unit champion has similar decoration on it. So this is GW using a previously established design convention to show that model is the unit champion. This doesn't invalidate your point of course, if you still don't like it that's entirely your opinion, but I thought I'd give some context as to why it looks that way. Fifth I think what we're seeing are essentially "monopose" Reclusians. Push fit models that will come in the starter box, and there is a chance that they'll get a separately sold multi-part kit in the future. If that is the case, I'm sure the poses will be more varied. Just compare the poses of the Dominion Annihilators to the full kit version. Sixth, I agree to an extent that the human companions look have a somewhat chaotic flare to them, but I think with the sloped shoulder pads mimicking the shoulders of the smaller Thunderstrike armored units like Vindictors, Vanquishers or the new Liberators, combined with the Gauntlets they wear also mimicking the Thunderstrike armor gauntlets, it made me realize that with the helmet intentionally looking like a Stormcast Helmet, I think the Memorians are trying to cosplay as the Stormcast they're paired with. As some strange facsimile reminder of who these individuals were before in order to keep them from going off the deep end. And if that's not Grimdark Fantasy, I don't know what is. Because my final point, you say AoS isn't "Grimdark", and I won't refute it. But, I want you to read about a particular city called "Settlers Gain" or a book called "A Dynasty of Monsters". I believe those are good examples that prove that AoS has some Grimdark in it. If you read this entire essay. Thanks!
This definitely looks like a smoothy but blingy Slaves to Darkness. The axe and shield silhouette really pushes that. I will say these vibe for me feeling more WFB and Mordheim style especially with the little buddies.
I absolutely adore them! While it is upsetting for Stormcast players that a large portion of their army is now unusable I think it's ultimately a great thing for the Stormcast. For the longest time they were just the “Space Marines 2.0” but now they're actually gaining their own aesthetic.
The reclusians might be what finally get me to start collecting some Stormcasts. Maybe it’s just the purity seals, but something about these feel more warhammer than the original Stormcast.
I could be wrong, as I'm not very Stormcast focused, but I think the spiked collars are stylized comets , Sigmar's symbol. So not too fussed with them. But each to their own tastes. 🙂😀 In regards to customization, as these are from the launch box, I betting next to none.
They look just like the last batch and the batch before that (were they the ones that just got 'binned'?)... They are silver though, so there's that. Are these the Dark Angels or Death Company themed Sigmarines we've reached now? My money is on Wolfy themed ones next!
Lore speculation: What if the reason there's a vague chaos feel to them is that once these guys truly lose themselves they fall to Chaos? They could have a new chaos unit (Stormcast Damned?) made from Stormcast that have fallen from Sigmar's light.
Couldn't work, they aren't like Space Marines who still have some free will, these guys are literally remade and filled with powers of Azyr Can they go crazy and start killing innocent people in some religious fever? Hell yeah Can they betray Sigmar? No, at least not in current lore and I hope they will never go this "Chaos stormcast" direction
Yeah, these guys are awesome. And now you pointed it out, that champion(?) looks to have a shoulder pad as a knee pad. Maybe it's part of his past reforging from the champion of another unit type.
Well, seems like I have the basis for a Tzeentch Chaos warriors conversion... although it looks like there's only 2 sculpts. Here's hoping they release more like this!
By the way, Games Workshop has never been present in my country, so we "live outside the field of their power". So I can enjoy my own vision of Warhammer Age of Sigmar where there are cool new things, but old things like Sacrosanct and Beasts of Chaos are still around.
They are lorewise a bit like the Blood Angels’ Death Company, which needs to be led by a Chaplain in order to not drown in their madness. I like these new models, but I think I would’ve given them helmets with less human-like features, because they were reforged so many times that they have almost left their „humanness“ behind. Also personally I like the old Stormcast Eternals with that thicc and tanky look even more, in particular those, which were released first, like the Liberators and Judicators etc., but what can you do…
Very big fan of the Reclusians. Very big opponent of the Memorians. I like the idea of needing something to ground the stormcast in the lore, but I don't want it in the army.
More like turning into dangerous order daemons. These guys are already immune to chaos corruption with even raw warpstone not affecting them because their humanity is being replaced with raw Azyr magic which is anti-chaos.
They have similar armor to Lord Imperatant, but otherwise I love them (Prosecutors are winning for me right now) Can't wait to cast them all in gold (or give them red and black and call them ex-Ubersreik three)
The Stormcast Eternals have been getting a lot of good models lately, this model in particular is actually making me want to collect stormcast eternals even more… 😂
I hate Stormcast Eternals design. They are overdesigned/ detail bloat to the point that they remind me of a Christmas tree. If they swapped the necron head to a real helmet would improve the overall design.
9:28 I mean the older designs were very unique and high fantasy the new ones looks like fallout power armor to me... Which all power armor is related to full plate armor but honestly you got your wish as they now look a better fit for later Warhammer fantasy/a space marine successor chapter rather then AOS which to me has always been high fantasy at it's core which I feel was refreshing in GW games...
I like the Reclusians a lot better than Annihilators Annihilator helms are dopey and their pauldrons are the worst excesses of WoW / 80s Reclusians are a damn good iteration on the concept of Paladin but in the Thunderstrike paradigm Memorians = emotional support human
Another incarnation of Space Marines, how incredibly dull and unoriginal as if GW hasn’t got anything else to offer for the over priced toshy plastic tripe and I say that as an Orc fanboy. If I were to explain this contradiction I would simply suggest that thankfully Orcs have a lot of humorous attitude and regardless of what is considered in the Ravenging Hordes book, Orcs are less evil baddies because they are more indifferent beings who enjoy a scrap for the fun of it.
You have the spikes on the head, which leads to the masks, which leads you to the cape clips, which leads to the sword, which leads you down to the scrolls. The model is tailor-made to lead you down the model.
@@Lakefront_Khan Garbage piles also have a flow to them. Your eyes start at the top of the pyramid of trash (where the flies hover above the horizon line) and lead all the way down to the scattered banana peels and liquid ooze at the bottom. Also totally unrelated to my point, which is regarding negative space.
