Totaly agree, have an ex Sprinter Ambulance 1915 144 had 100 thousand K on clock when purchased, following self conversion have done 70 thousand K without fault, service every 10K and drive it like I stole it, third circumnavigation of Australia this year, on the DPF I use a DPF in fuel cleaner every 5K, 15 aus dollars. Just my 2 cents worth. Keep up the good work.

I honestly appreciate all the suggestions on keeping the dpf clean. No def/scr system in Australia until 2014 if I’m not mistaken so dpf is likely the only thing to cause a bit of heart ache. Curious how much interest there is in discussing cleaning options for dpf filters.

thanks Dustin, I put a lot of thought into how to make it concise yet still accurate and informative. hard to balance the two

I am biased, I bought a 2021 Ford Transit Ecoboost AWD. The reasons I chose a Transit over a Sprinter are below. 1. Transit costs 20% less than a Sprinter. 2. Transit easy to fix (you can take it anywhere to get service). Sprinter hard to find service centers and they have long wait times for repairs. 3. Transit's four wheel drive system a vastly superior to the Sprinter both on and off road. 4. Transit drives like a car, very easy to get used to. 5. Reliability - Transit is much better, talk to people who have owned a Sprinter and they hate how often the Sprinters have issues. The Sprinter diesel will go into "limp mode" for a whole series of reason, 50 mph or less in limp mode.

Interesting, to be fair, I think I gave the gas transit a fair shake, If I had to buy a transit it would be a diesel but I think for most people a gas transit is a better choice for some of the reasons you mentioned. I believe the gas powered sprinter starting price is comparable to transits' but I could be wrong. I am surprised you prefer the driving experience in a transit over that of a sprinter as that is rare. some of the points I would have to disagree with you on are as follows: 1) I have to dissagree with reliability claims around the sprinter. there exists lots of videos I have seen that say things like "dont buy a sprinter" which give information that is somewhere between inaccurate and just plain wrong. the term limp mode for example is the most misused and misunderstood term imaginable. I cannot count the number of times it has been confused for emergency mode or derate mode or some other low power mode. its like a blanket statement which is used to reference a van that doesnt run right. 2) awd systems are generally a cheaper version of 4wds.. grant it they are getting better. and grant it sprinters recently switched their 4wd system for awd for 2023 which has pissed a lot of people off. to be fair, 90+ percent of van owners dont need four wheels moving and likely 99 percent of van owners dont need anything more then an awd system which means maybe we dont even need to compare the awd to the 4wd.

Where is the crafter there? And the newest version of both, crafter Vs sprinter?
@sprinterfix

Unfortunately here in the USA we are not blessed with crafters or they are extremely rare. This video was made in 2022 before the newer 2.0 2023 models were released.

I really do want to make a list describing the nuances between the sprinters throughout the years. Hard to say with these newer 2019+ ones as I’ve heard mixed reviews. I personally would love to own one as I love the way they drive haha and I have no problem fixing them as issues arise. Hope u have some great adventures with it

@@sprinterfix I looked at all those vans. Came very close to Ford diesel lack of parts due to the short production run . Also the oil change . If not performed quickly you could ruin the motor.

@@kayakwesty I worked on a fleet of spectrum diesel transits back when they were rolling them out. only problems they had were the DEF Nox sensors and other related emissions components. ford doesnt separate the SCR from the DPF filter so it is one giant exhaust unit. spectrum eventually stopped buying diesels haha.. but those inline five engines are very reminiscent of the T1N inline five engine. same bosch components supporting it too haha... "made in america" ( with german parts)

Promaster definitely is trash. I ordered a new 2017 how I wanted. At 71k miles cylinder head #2, 91k miles cylinder head #6, at 104k miles transmission gone. Traded for a 2021 V6 diesel Sprinter. What a difference in drive, quality, build and more. You definitely see a LOT more Sprinters on the road than almost any other vans, possibly other than the Chevy Express from older years. Truth be told, if Chevrolet had a high roof option they could dominate the market in simple reliable motor/trans combo. Why is GM not in the high roof game I wonder??
@sprinterfix
@sprinterfix Год назад
Ah well, I might as well have titled the video "dont buy a promaster" I am sorry you had such a bad experience with them. I can go on and on about why we don't see a good american van on the road, I believe even the modern transit was a style imported from the euro market as ford has a bit of a following in europe still. It really sucks that the american market with the likes of GM spending more time focusing on lobbying against Imports from europe and asia as opposed to updating their antiquated lineup. I mean, can u really tell the difference between a 2020 express vs a 2010? barely, they really want to control the market so that they don't have to improve their own stuff. forgive my rant haha but there is no reason we shouldn't be able to buy other euro vans here in the US, I mean Iveco, Mann, VW crafter, need I say more? To be fair chevy does have some good gas engines ill give them that. however their modern duramaxx, as well as ford powerstroke and cummins are all made with german parts, the same/similar parts that exist in sprinters, that is why they now have such a cult following, even the ecu protocols are the same (sort of, different variants of EDC17/16).... so anyways, here is an essay I guess. Long story short, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "MADE IN AMERICA" diesel truck these days.

Any thoughts on the quantity of the Amazon vans flooding the market?
@sprinterfix
@sprinterfix Год назад
super tough to say, from my understanding most of them are not owned by amazon but by different delivery companies partnered with amazon. which means there must be a large portion of these companies deciding not to continue partnerships with amazon and or contracts expiring. This means there is too much variability in maintenance from company to company to provide a general claim that they can be considered "well maintained" city miles generally create a little more wear and tear so can't really say that ohh its got low miles and is therefore good. If I were you I'd hold out for a bit longer as I suspect those will just keep getting cheaper. is this your first sprinter buy?

@@sprinterfix yes,2019 ,2020,but also looking at 2004-06 for the pre def. Commercial floor installer.
@sprinterfix
@sprinterfix Год назад
@@captkfc236 pre def goes between 2002 to 2009. Id suggest 2007 to 2009 as those are the years no one realizes dont have def. even automotive youtubers with 200k subscribers claim that 2007 has def. clueless... the only difference between 2006 and 2007 (USA model years) is of course a different engine but they share lots and lots of components. 2007+ they only added a few extras. I like the 2007 to 2009 as they are dirt cheap and dont have the cult following yet as the 2004 to 2006s do. If I was a first time buyer those would be the range I'd be looking for.
