I did a proxy game with friends yesterday, and Mirko is pretty awesome when being built around anyways, as you said, walls, self mill through surveil to find other nice things, and being a cheap flying vigilance is quite strong. you can even move the finality counters around with Fate Transfer (especially on Isecron's Scepter), Nesting Grounds, even Theif of Blood (which Mirko has few problems reviving).

Nah bro the vampire one will be busted if built correctly. There’s so many ways to surveil and getting plus 1/1 counters each time you do it means he can get big fast. And him being able to reanimate any creature in your graveyard that matches his power is extremely good especially since he can get big so fast. There’s also plenty of other cards that can buff him to make him be able to reanimate something huge the moment you play him. Also it’s blue/black. So a reanimation vampire deck with access to control and all the best counter magic, on top of card draw spells like kindred discovery and rhystic study will be op.

Magic is the most popular, profitable, and known-about that it's ever been... all signs point to the game doing well. There have been some blunders but I don't believe that gimmicky mechanics are a sign that MTG isn't going to last, but instead that Magic is such a universal game that any genre or play style can work within the game.
