I honestly don't get the hype for LC. I mean it's cool since it's a V8 luxury coupe but it's just a coupe Lexus, nothing unusual. It's not the best quality, it's not super good looking, it doesn't drive like it's anything way better than 8 series for example. I don't say it's bad but It's just not any better than 8 series. Also the rear seats in LC are made of some fake plastic leather which feels super cheap and it's not like it isn't noticeable, once you touch it you know it's plastic, they didn't even try to make it feel like actual leather. At LC's price point I'd say it's unacceptable
@@Krzysztof_88 "It's not the best quality" At its price range, it is. And I'd defy you to identify a more expensive car that will be as cheap to keep running. "it's not super good looking" You're in the minority on this opinion, watch the Jason Cammisa video where he puts it next to an Aston Martin. "Also the rear seats in LC are made of some fake plastic leather" Even if what you say is true (it's not), nobody cares, you don't buy coupes for the back seats. "At LC's price point I'd say it's unacceptable" I bet you were the kind of guy who complained about the LFA too. When you should have bought three of them.
It's not the best quality and that's a fact no matter if it's expensive or not. It's not super good looking and that's my opinion, you don't have to agree with me on that. And I don't care what Cammisa says, also most current Astons are ugly af but that also just my opinion. Back seats are made of fake leather, that's a fact. Front seats are real leather. And I do care about that, I care about such details and that would drive me crazy. I don't care about LFA, it's history and collectible item now, it's not a car that anyone actually drives anymore. Also LFA was smaller production and more exclusive while LC is just a Lexus that you can buy at every Lexus dealer. Every new car is cheap to keep running. Just get extended warranty. Good friend of mine has 2018 or 2019 BMW 840d and it's dead reliable. And it handles WAY better than LC. Why Toyota fanboys always think they're right and that only your opinion counts? I'm not hating that car, I even said it's still good, just don't get the hype. And you act like I insulted you.
I saw a privately owned Ineos Grenadier at my local grocery store a few days ago. If I could afford one I would buy one. I talked with the lady who was putting her groceries in it for a few minutes. Her previous car had been a G Wagon so it made sense that she was now piloting that Grenadier.
I've had two. The second one I bought to get a better blue. The reaction it gets most of the time is "I had no idea Lexus even built this". The future collectability on this car is insane.
There's a book called "Physics for Future Presidents" that has a section about hydrogen as a fuel. It talks about what April was fishing for. The amount of energy that is required to prepare hydrogen fuel is greater than the energy that is available in the hydrogen that results from the process. I also saw a video recently about a Murai owner that was trying to fill up in California. The fuel cost was staggering and the inconvenience to get it was way worse than public EV chargers.
It was initially pushed very hard by oil companies because it kept people tied to their ecosystem. But even they have largely given up on it with BEV sales utterly dominating hydrogen cars.
3 people in my smallish city (Victoria BC) have one. AFAIK, there is exactly **one** fuelling station in town. And, since I live on a large island much of which is semi-rural, I very much doubt there is much in the way of fuelling stations elsewhere unless one travels to Vancouver (which needs a ferry ride). So, goodbye to longish road trips. Just seems like an incredible hassle (like owning an electric vehicle pre-Supercharger days).
The benefit of hydrogen isn't that it's efficient, it's that excess solar or wind energy can be used to generate hydrogen, which is then more portable than most other forms of energy storage. (Transporting and storing hydrogen is actually very difficult but it is probably solvable.) I'm not sure that hydrogen will ever become a great option, but without companies like Toyota pouring money into research, we'll never find out.
The H atoms can leak *thru* metal tanks and lines if they're not purposefully designed to withstand embrittlement so everything needs to be custom designed and implemented for a very low volume fuel (chicken and egg problem). Just seems like a non-starter to me.
It’s not that bad. One of my family members has a 2018 Equinox with the 1.5, over 90k miles and no issues whatsoever. Before the refresh they were definitely shit though
Pre-2018 I agree the 2.4 and motormounts (everything else about it, really) were really, really bad.. Since the 18 Refresh, the Equinox is actually nice and reliable. EV Equinox has only been on the market for 2 months total.
I put 400k on an 11 before It rusted out and got scrapped. Keep oil in them and they will run forever. Mine was burning 1L every 450kms at the end of its life
2018-2020 all automakers hit their peak… the only thing we needed was better mpg but everything was beautiful with good powertrains… check out the bmw 7 series (2018 ) and the 7 series (2022) sad…
@@rtcturnemup7028 hello thank you for reply. I'm just frustrated driver. I don't like spending 30 seconds looking like an idiot trying to get my flush door handles to appear, so i can get in the retched thing. Then, going into menus to switch off the autostart. Then it starts to rain a few drops, and auto wipers switch on - i wouldn't use the wipers 99% of the windscreen is dry, its just dry wipers on dry glass - yikes. Then in the afternoon, the autolights keep switching on, off,on,off - looks like im an angry driver flashing cars. I enjoyed driving in the 2000's walk up to car unlock, and drive away 3 secs. Modern car i still be outside trying to swipe the door handles. If only there was an option where i could buy buttons not screens. I'm sure the latest cars are better in every other way, its just the tech ruins them.
What they should have done is make a hard core off roader promo model and get into all the off road competitions and events to bee seen by the crowds that are interested. Plus the free media publicity from being a new kid on the rock. Jeep became popular because all the attention it got in WW2. Hummer got all that media publicity when Schwarzenegger convinced the military sell him one.
The V90 does well because it’s 10-15K cheaper than an A6 all road or a E450 wagon. The S90 is made in China for the Chinese market and they just happen to import a few of them to the US as well.
The problem with cars like the Supra is dealers never ever have them in their showrooms, so people have to buy them without ever even seeing one in person let alone test driving one. Most people don’t want to buy a car without test driving it
I am absolutely fawning over the LC500. My plan is to save up to buy a used low mil example of 4 or so years when depreciation bottoms out. The build quality and engine combo among other things will guarantee these to become one of the most overlooked cars of this decade. It is overshadowed performance wise by all of its competitors, but once that dust settles and people can appreciate it for what it is, the LC500 is truly 1 of 1.
Agreed, they're one of the most beautiful cars made, top quality, and the interior is amazing. I wish they'd go all out on a special edition before the model dies off and make it extremely fast to finally finish the package. Like an F Sport model... put the LFA engine in it 😂😂
I want to test drive a Supra. I'm in Central Texas. The only thing dealers here are interested in selling is Tundras and Tacomas. Last time I searched I had to drive 500+ miles to look at a Supra at the dealer. Toyota is not interested in selling me a Supra.
If you want the real Mk5 Supra, you should buy the LC500 at the beginning of this video. Yeah, it's twice the price and not as fast. But in 15 years, one of them is actually a Toyota and the other is a BMW that costs BMW money to keep running.
@@jimmy-buffettEh. I own a mkv supra and a IS500. The MKV is a perfect successor to the MK4. The b58 is a fantastic engine. A V8 in a supra would be odd. Maintenance is actually pretty similar.
@@TurkeyWilliams The MKV is a good car, I just question them calling it "Supra". To me that would be like letting Jeep build the Land Cruiser. As for long-term maintenance, the car isn't old enough yet to really tell. Long term I doubt it will be substantially better than any other BMW -- Toyota project management isn't the solution to BMW's over-engineering -- but we'll see.
And just imagine how disappointed the family would be when you brought it home: "I can't believe you were so irresponsible and put a burden on our family like that. How are we going to take care of it? It'll be so expensive! But at least you got a free cat with it!"
My friend was saddled with a Mitsubishi mirage for a rental…Jesus I have never driven a worse car in my life..( we had a dealership ..I’ve driven everything)..holy crap 💩 what a horrible experience
Know a guy locally that has a modified LC500. Lots of top-tier parts he's imported from Japan like the Aimgain Carbon hood/fenders. Advan wheels, Toms exhaust and steering wheel. Just so nicely put together. I wasn't a big fan of the LC500 when I first seen the debut, but in person. Man they are sharp. And modified properly lovely. The Lexus RC F is a beautiful car as well. And the Vasser-Sullivan campaign in IMSA this year has been going great. I'd buy a RC F if the price was better. But it's hard to justify paying that much, when you can buy a 911 that's just overall better. I did have a IS300 F Sport and absolutely loved it, and the RC is just a 2 door version. But the price point on them, is just too much to justify since the car doesn't do any one thing better than everyone - but it does do everything above exceptions. The problem is, if you go to test drive a BMW/Mercedes you'll probably find your self buying either over the Lexus. Over time I think people would rather have the Lexus with it's ownerships cost, reliability, and build quality, BUT it's that initial experience that sells the car 90% of the time.
I don't think most luxury buyers care about ownership costs and overall quality. They want the newest fanciest model and trade them in before all the problems arise. Also I'd like to see that LC, sounds awesome!
I live in a condo, how do you go EV or even PHEV when there is no place to even put a charger never mind plug your car in at home. Until the government can make it reasonable to charge your car when you do not own a house, EV and PHEV is going to take longer to become the standard.
Tyler, I would love to see you and April review the last of the V8 powered , rear wheel drive Japanese coupes. The Lexus LC500 is extremely luxurious and fun to drive. I think it will be a future collectible with the limited production, especially in Cabriolet form.
Hovie, even Wizard said the A8 is trash. April is right about the Mirai. Even here in California we don't see many of them. Only one place within 50 miles of here to fill it up. Same would go for that last Hyundai of which I have never even heard of.
Biggest mistake ever made by domestic manufacturers not making 2 door cars. Some of us are big and tall and love the wide opening of a coupe. Not a doorjamb that's in front of the seat making entry hard. Plus, don't need 4 doors because no one sits back there☹️☹️
Create artificial scarcity for a hot new product to drive up demand and add giant market adjustments Continue only making a few, people write them off as overpriced and impossible to get and buy other cars Sales don't meet expectations, model cancelled. "Nobody was buying them"
Grenadiers are a niche market. I think the "1500-2000" for 2024 is what they expexted to sell in the USA. They might get better sales in the near future when people get turned off by the abysmal quality of Land Rovers these days.
A local dealer who sells the Ineos Grenadier has (as I drove by their lot) probably 15-20 of them. Their website doesn’t show an inventory for sale but it does say they have models to test drive. Maybe some of those were deliveries.
Tyler I am allergic to cats too. My crazy cat lady friends say I should take allergy medicine for this issue. For April I just might do this, everyone else no way. Did research on this matter and wonder if I was wrong about my thoughts on this. One read stated the wife loved her hubby so much knowing he is allergic to cats she would volunteer at a cat shelter for the fix on loving cats come home take her clothes off in the garage put on fresh clothes and place the cat hair clothes into the wash machine. That to me is a keeper wife it is not all about them.
I have read that most people are allergic the the FELD1 protein in cats’ saliva, a water soluble protein (allergen) which cats cover themselves in by bathing. It can be reduced by bathing cats in water (those cats who tolerate bathing (could be a help. Please don’t shoot the messenger)).
"We're gonna beat Medicare," made me laugh so hard. I watched the debate too. History is not going to be kind to the Bidens knowingly running a campaign with him being senile.
The reasons I suspect the Z4 hasn’t sold well: 1. It was overshadowed from the beginning by the return of the legendary Supra name after 22 years 2. It didn’t offer a manual for the first 5 years, even a full 2 years after the Supra got one. Now that they added one, everyone forgot the Z4 even exists. 3. Mazda really stepped up their interior game with the ND Miata and I imagine a lot of people who would’ve bought a manual Z4 just got the Miata and pocketed the extra money
I rented a Z4 4 cyl on a vacation and it was an excellent driver. I had a lot of fun. Not crazy fast but made good sounds, peppy, and handled very well. It felt like a much bigger car than it was, in a good way. Cool car. Also over 30k for a Fiat 500 is insane to me. That should be 20k.
The issue is that everyone who could buy a Fiat 500 with a manual transmission bought every last one of them that they imported. Then they sent over this bloated Mini Cooper SUV mashup type of thing for $30K. Nasty automatic transmission as only the Italians can fail at. We're talking almost first gen Smart car bad transmissions, and the EV is just sad and such a low range. (can only stuff so many batteries in the poor little thing). 149 oops I mean 120 actual miles and an almost 3000lb weight. ugh. For reference, my Mustang is 3600lbs and goes like stink compared to this poor little toad. EV - 7.8 seconds. Mustang: 4.8 Same price for a base model Mustang, too....
Instead of just listing cars with low number of total sales a more meaningful metric of low performing model sales would be the #days of inventory available on dealer lots. If the number is really high then it shows the sales aren’t meeting manufacturer expectations and could indicate an expected change.
Low pressure hydrogen is an issue. When you manufacture hydrogen and then consume it in hydro processing units (jet, diesel, gas oil hydrotreating, high pressure hydrocracking) not so much. All the compressors and piping are designed to contain, compress and transport hydrogen.
I was slow to move to this channel over your work by yourself and the car trek stuff. I look foward to it now as i wind down from the day. I relly hope yall can Car Trek again at some point,
OK, so I can comment on 2 of these: The Acura ZDX is built on the GM Ultium platform, so they limited their exposure on the R&D of this model. They just license the platform and become a coach builder. Not a terrible outcome if they don't sell. As for the Toyota Mirai: I drove a Mirai for (almost) 3 years. The car is actually amazing. It's really a Lexus but they badge it as a Toyota to try to appeal to the "everyman" buyer. But to answer April's question: it's a pain in the a** to find hydrogen. Yes, they only sell them in California. But in southern California where, what, 20 million people live, there are only 25 hydrogen stations. So you truly have to plan your routes around where you can fill up, and then you find that only about 15-18 have hydrogen at any given time. It was really a nightmare. So much so that I turned in my lease 2 months early and just made the payments because it was so frustrating to find hydrogen. It's a "chicken and egg" problem that they haven't solved yet. I really don't know how they are still convincing people to buy them?
On the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, 2 reasons not selling. A: the Equinox EV production ramp up just started over the last 3 to 4 months so there's very few on dealer lots yet. B: Neither the Blazer or Equinox EVs offer Apple Car Play which kills the sale for lots of people.
I am surprised Hydrogen hasn't become more of a thing. Getting more energy from it than used to make it must be bigger problem than I imagined. From a Big Oil perspective Hydrogen makes a lot of sense to pursue as it just a different form of the infrastructure they already have. From a consumer perspective, a quick fill up and you are on the road again instead of reading a book at the fast charger.
It's getting easier to produce Hydrogen. Some are even making their own Hydrogen. And the best thing is it's fairly easy to convert a gas car over. And their exhaust produces water. To make more Hydrogen from.
Fisker filed for bankruptcy because it was not a well-run business. Fisker's wife ran that company in the ground. Who loses $15 million dollars due to poor accounting processes, then spends six months getting the accounting books straightened out to properly account for that $15 million? Fisker.
The issue with hydrogen is there is different types. Three grades iirc. Grey, blue, and green is it? Grey being hydrogen from petrochemical sources. Cheapest, but not cleanest. I cannot remember specifics on other two. One being from water using renewable energy?
