Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds ru-vid.comUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.
This disabled veteran says,,don't let the bad comments bother you,,you have plenty of cedar for other projects. I think you did a wonderful job ALL by yourself. That is a great job...I grew up as a kid pulling logs out of woods n sawing. Loved video 👍
You using cedar on your shed is your business. Those who get their nose bent over such things deserve to have their nose bent. Some people really struggle with minding their own business. I couldn't help but think about how wonderfully blessed one is to be doing what you are doing, right where you are doing it! That place must go a long ways toward giving you peace of mind. Good for you young man, good for you. 😎👍
I live in the UK. In the first World War, 1914 - 1918, the government supplied small engineering firms with workshops, some made of cedar. There was one not far from me that was still in great shape the last time I saw it around 2001. That's a lot of winters, summers, snow and rain, scorching sun, woodworm etc. Cedar is a great wood!! It also makes superb guitar tops. Maybe the slice through the middle, which equates to being quarter cut, would have been a lot more valuable to sell to guitar makers. Thanks for uploading a glimpse of your life!
lol was about to say the same thing... I really don't get how people can be so self entitled that they think they can tell others what they can / can't do with the other persons property, If they think one shed wall made out of cedar is bad they'd hate to see some of the stables and animal enclosures I've worked in the entire structure was made from cedar, (the ones that weren't made with Iron Bark) all harvested from the property they were built on.
Sure, the most happiness for every piece of lumber. Each and one to his own liking. I would have done something else with those beautiful boards, but I really can't understand why anyone would get upset about it.
You can do whatever YOU like with your wood!!! If people don't LIKE something then they should turn it off. I'm soooo tired of people being "offended" by anything and everything!! To those people: suck it up buttercups and move on!! LOVE THE CEDAR ON THE SHED!! Good job!!!
Watched this video with the family. I'm 44 years old and have a career in technology.. looking at this video I really questioned my career.. I think I would be so happy doing the work you showed here.. seems like a satisfying way to make a living.
I was a carpenter at a college for 23 years after being a structural draftsman and bouncing around for several years in different trades so I could repair anything on campus in my trade. Did things on campus that were so outstanding I will always be proud. .
Add to that the pathetic office clique crap and power trip. I'm 45, got a Master's and unable to find work. Seems like work needs to take a step back from all the connectivity and devices. Back to basics .
That's exactly what I was going to say! I don't know what's wrong with people. They get so bent out of shape over things that are none of their business; it's just ridiculous. But I sure wish I had some of that wood. It's very beautiful.
I don't know if I would have used such beautiful wood for that but You have made the most beautiful shed I have seen. I understand where you are coming from. I am a sewer and when I see beautiful material sometimes regardless of the cost I just go for it and buy me a yard or two and make something I can just enjoy and love, maybe it is the texture, the look or the color but I never regret it and I know you won't either. Sometimes I think people forget all the hard work we as artist put in to things and sell and that we also deserve "pretty" things. Congratulations on a job well done. Wish I could smell that cedar. Enjoy. If you happen to have a couple of boards left put them up in your daughters closet, years later when she smells cedar she will automaticly think of you. and a little block truck or car for your son.
Enjoying your videos only been watching about two weeks. Glad I ran across it. She'd is looking great. Baby is so cute that cedar is perfect. Don't worry if people like it or not. It's yours do what u want
The parts where I live, cedar is an evasive wood and is everywhere. After watching your shed series I'm contemplating making a smaller version for a firewood shed and use the standing cedar for the entire project. Great job on your video's. Keep up the fantastic work.
Interesting that there is negativity with this project. You secured the wood for free, you used it to solve a problem and it truly looks fabulous! I'm getting ready to build a tiny home and you can be sure I'm going to repurpose whatever comes my way to make that happen! Anything that serves a purpose is NEVER a waste!
I love what you do. Use your wood as you please. Don't let troubled people keep you from doing what you love. The Little Man is awesome. Be happy with your family and your pets.
The complainers are overlooking the fact that the cedar trees were yours BEFORE you cut them down and after you cut them down and sawed them into boards, they we’re still yours to do as you please with. So don’t despair, the shed looks wonderful.
That is a beautiful wall. If it was in your closet no one else would get to enjoy it. This way anyone that comes over can enjoy the beauty of the wall. Way to go...
The people who are giving you a hard time about using the wood you have used. In most of America this would be firewood. Do not listen to them. Their sad lonely people. Just keep doing what you are doing. It looks amazing. Well done, life's too short to listen to The s____ in life.and again well done.
Your cat hanging around (supervising) as you work reminds me of Shawn James' dog Callie, only the cat isn't carrying around something for you to throw so she can fetch. Cats can be so chill.
Nice work. Don’t worry about the complainers. I like the look of the cedar and if you like it too, I’d cover it with some poly to keep it from fading to a weathered gray.
Love the cow-cat and I am jealous of the cedar walls. You have the best smelling shed in town. I wish you were my neighbor so I get some of that great wood.
Beautiful ! ! It's like looking at an OLD COVERED BRIDGE. I would build yokes from 4x6x18 and screw them to the posts. Then rest the purlins in the yokes. Just make sure to only secure one yoke first and clamp the opposite end. It will need to move around to get the purlin in. Then screw it to that post. - KJ
Love what you did with that and for the people that use foul language that just shows their IQ you're a very blessed man and I'll be praying for you success in your business
It’s funny how people see things differently. I looked at what you were doing and thought what a beautiful way to use those trees that were just going to rot. And I was thinking man I’d like to do that.
I think it looks fantastic. That will withstand many years of weather. I would do the same thing if I had it. Most people do not realize that lumber yards sell cedar lumber for the use on building exterior. And it is painted, never to be seen. Not to mention cedar shingles.
I, at first, didn't know why you were using that material. But, as it took shape, I really love the way it looks!!! In time, it's gonna take on the appearance of a very old, backwoods shed wall. Again, love the vision you expressed!
Been watching your video's now for a couple of weeks, really enjoy them completely, love your shed you built for your saw, and with the cedar back wall, keep the video's coming, when I go to you tube, I look for yours first, thank you for what you do
I am so glad my friend, I really like the work in the estate and me, the sawmill is all your money well done to your family. How much does a sawmill do?I AM from Greece Florina 🇬🇷👍🌨️😁
I must admit, I was one of the nay thinkers myself, however your explanation of the inspiration from the lumber you produced makes me retract my thoughts. Enjoy it and your fine family !
That Cedar shed is going to make you a local legend and speak to your discernment skills- you made the right choice; your family will be proud, and that's all that really matters anyway.
I think you have a future wood worker on your hands that such great memories. As he gets older and does more things with his father you'll have all those memories keep up the excellent work
Well food for thought maybe he has a brush hog on the tractor and in order to get the tractor under cover with a front bucket and the brush hog adds weight to keep rear wheels on the ground when he's lifting a log , so he backs it in and the hog fits under the shorter board area and out the back of the shed . Which is logical to protect the bigger part of his investment. As far as people complaints about the use of the cedar planks he owns the right to use them anyway he desires even biulding an out house if he desires.!
I’ll agree with you about the cedar, you can enjoy it a lot more at Sawmill location. Every time you go out to the Sawmill you’ll have that great cedar smell.
Beautiful striations, a beautiful lumber- and man it’s yours do what you see fit with it! What biz is it of anyone to try and dictate how you use it, dare say none of them would ask some arbitrary dude their opinion:/! Good job!
that is a nice looking shed... and your pleasure looking at it every time you pass by will add up to your spirit and translate into your life, every little bit counts.
Michael Glidewell that's true I didn't think of that! May God bless you and all your family and keep you and your family safe from this Corona pandemic!
Everybody has their own way of doing things, myself included. I have seen you, and guys on other channels, do things that I disagree with. However I respect the decisions that all of you guys make for one very important reason....it's not my shed and it's not my RU-vid channel. I'm not saying things that were done are wrong all I am saying that in certain situations I might do something differently.
I like the cedar planks. It looks real good. I understand the angry people, though. After all cedar is special and it’s not like it grows on trees.....oh wait, yes it does. LOL!!!
I would love to have a cedar wall shed. I think the nay sayers would love one also just to prideful to admit it. You have a blessed day and keep making these wonderful videos. There will always be someone to complain about something. Let it be like water off a ducks back and keep on moving.
I love your cat! No fear of all the tools and saw sounds and drill sounds and everything. The finished product looks amazing! It gives a very old rustic look to your shed. Very nice work.
I understand their feelings, I love cedar to, but this is still America, use what you want how you want to use it. I would have done that back wall with heavy canvas tarps so it could be rolled up on the nice days.
@@michaelgoettsch7744 I agree the end and front could benefit with this, specially if they expect any snow. ( Evergreen trees tend to be in areas where snow is a common thing. ) Or even for when the win and rain are coming in from a different direction.
@@BESHYSBEES absolutely, canvas hanging in sections with a pole at the bottom could be rolled up in sections or all together and tied. This would allow the air to circulate on those hot days. Beeswax would remain flexible, that is a good idea.
I wouldn't loose any sleep over what a few Jack Asses thouht about your choice of wood use on the back of your shed, after all, it's your wood, your shed, and your business period. Love your family, your legged Beagle and black & white cat that appears to be checking your to make sure you are doing it right. Love your site, by the way the cedar really looks great. Keep up the good work.
My uncle was pointing out his cedar light pole that he cut 50 years ago and is still as strong as the day it was cut. I can't see a better reason to use the cedar on the shed than that. long lasting and it will weather well.
