Bro Ridley and Villager are one thing but the addition of Mario to SSBU truly showed that anything was possible.

I feel like Lucas is also a pretty interesting note. He was supposed to replace Ness in Melee, but got cut because his game was canceled. Yet not only did Lucas's game get a second chance, but so did his chance to join Smash.

Speaking of "rules" the only real one is that a character needs to be from a video game before any other form of media. Every other rule is BS spouted by fans to make them feel smart.

Ridley is a character I’ve always wanted but knew there was no way he’d ever make it. When I saw the reveal from him I checked the video to see that I wasn’t watching a trailer for a mod or joke. I was in disbelief but was extremely excited because I’m in love with the Metroid series. I’ve gotten 100% on every last Metroid game. I’ve also beaten Super Metroid 16 times (I didn’t make the number up I literally did it exactly 16 times) I’m almost done doing a no-damage run on it using restore points. I’d create a restore point at save stations and when I get a major item required for progression. Like Speed Booster. I’d also do it for the 1st Missle tank or Super Missile tank etc. Also at boss doors. Honestly the hardest part in my opinion was the beginning at Ceres Station (the tutorial) If you haven’t played it I’m not joking.

My personal favorite Smash character, Pichu, was originally not meant to be included in Melee. The original Gold/Silver representative was to be a Pokémon Trainer who commanded the Johto starters. However, since Pichu was promoted as the mascot of Gold/Silver, Sakurai considered including Pichu instead, but quickly dismissed the idea due to it being too similar to Pikachu. But when Sakurai began thinking of Pichu again, it inspired him to implement clone characters, and Pichu was ultimately chosen as the Gold/Silver representative in Melee. I’m very glad this happened, as Pichu is a very unique fighter with its self-damage gimmick topped with its light weight, which makes for a challenging character that requires much care and strategy to succeed with. Learning how to balance your use of the recoil attacks alongside the non-recoil ones is very fun. This may sound biased, but I think including Pichu over a Johto Pokémon Trainer was the better choice, and Pichu feels right at home in Smash (this is mostly due to Pichu being my favorite Pokémon).

Unpopular Opinion but I like FE in Smash. I feel like Marth, Ike, Robin, Corrin, and Byleth play unique and Lucina, Roy, and Chrom are fun and help bump up the character count. Thanks to Corrin in Smash 4 I actually bought Fates because prior to that I had never even played an RPG outside of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. I love Fire Emblem and think it's a great series. There are a bunch of FE characters but it kinda makes sense. Fire Emblem is a game all about characters. Appart from direct sequals or some characters moving between contanents, all FE games have completely unique rosters of characters. And I think a lot of them would work well in Smash. I don't even think people hate FE in Smash, they hate Sword FE in Smash. All FE characters in Smash use a sword, mainly because most main characters use swords in FE. But when it comes to Robin, Corrin, and Byleth who actually use other FE weapons I think those characters should be added. I know it's a hot topic about FE in Smash but I don't get why. The roster count goes up, new characters to play as are included, and even if you despise FE you don't have to play as them. Just choose from the other 70 characters in the game. I know people say 'they steal spots' but most of the FE characters are Echos or Semi-Clones anyway, less development time goes into them. I know someone will argue with me and I hope so. I want to understand your opinion too. Just please don't be so mean.

From what I can tell these are the current Smash bros character rules. 1. Must originate from a videogame 2. Must be in a past, current, or upcoming game on a Nintendo system. For anyone who wants to talk about Joker please see Persona q2 for 3ds. For those who think this disproves Dante please see DMC 1-3 on switch or more importantly, the Project X Zone games for the 3ds.

I know a lot of people don't like having so many fire emblem characters, but I actually like playing as most of them. No, I haven't played a fire emblem game, but I just love fantasy things in general, and I usually love using swords more than any other melee weapon in any fantasy game I have played, (I also love bows and magic). :) I would absolutely LOVE to be able to play as Midna, preferably her true form, unless you could switch between that and her imp form.

Same can be said about Pyra/Mythra, they weren't supposed to be a fighter in the game but Nintendo wanted to promote Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so they added them in there.

Fire Emblem getting 4 fighters in one game is like if F-Zero got the same? One is much more popular than the other, and no F-Zero characters, not even Captain Falcon, make sense in Smash at all. Just because Americans on the internet think Fire Emblem is overrepresented in Smash doesn't mean it's true, and doesn't warrant a comparison to a franchise that is entirely dead.

I can agree with the original sentiment of Ridley being too big.... Because he is and he looks off being scaled down so much!

I really like Sakurai's philosophy on fighters; fun over notoriety. That's the main reason I'm against Master Chief for Smash. Sure, he is probably the most iconic character for Xbox, but will he be fun? He has gun, small gun, big gun, close gun, far gun, and *spirrrrrr* gun. I know that there's a little more, but that's what the moveset would boil down to. Same goes for Doom Guy except he would be worse since he wouldn't be able to be gruesome like he was intended to be.

ness was going to be cut from melee and replaced with lucas. at the time mother 3 was being created but ended up getting cancelled, resulting in lucas being cut. the game did come out several years later for the GBA, and lucas was (obviously) added to brawl after that.

I think the precise question should be whether they're really not supposed to be, or it's the rules that are not supposed to exist. If it's the latter, then we should be glad to see that Nintendo admit they're wrong. But if it's the former, that means Nintendo chose the wrong fighters, and we should complain that Nintendo should had chosen other fighters. If you cannot precisely tell which situation it is, then I cannot see the point.

Its kinda funny, as much as I hate smash 4, I love that they borught in Lucina, as I main her now. (I also main Little mac and Pikachu in ultimate) In smash 4, Kirby, Bowser and Zero suit also saw a LOT of play (Zero suit actually getting more play than Lucina, but not much more)
