I’m confused that you’re decrying the use of dryer sheets for dusting. I first learned that trick a few months from your 21 Cleaning Hacks video where you specifically promote using used dryer sheets to clean/dust baseboards and talk about the fact that it has a residual static charge which is why it helps pick up dust there, whereas here you say it just pushes dust around/off and doesn’t pick it up. I thought maybe it had to do with whether the dryer sheet is used vs unused because you mention unused dryer sheets in the segment intro here, and that would make sense that there’s a difference there, but in the segment, you specifically talk about dusting with a used dryer sheet. Am I missing something? Not trying to be snarky, genuinely confused and asking as a long-time subscriber and Maker’s Clean customer because I appreciate how spot on your info usually is, so my assumption is I must be missing something here.

I’ve noticed with her channel and a few other people that after they went to this Tide Proctor Gamble clinic they’ve all change their stories. My guess is sponsorship and money. These companies make a huge amount of money by selling multiple products that the companies in self used to market as a do it all product when it was originally released. I think with things being the way they are people getting a little more worried about what they put in their home people having money trouble they’re looking for cheaper older ways to do things and I think basically they pull these influencer and offer them deals to debunk everything that’s ever been used before.

I just haven’t been impressed with it when I really think about it and compare results. Look, we film videos every week and have been doing so since 2011. My opinions change! I learn new things. As an expert, I have to always be learning and testing, or else I wouldn’t be able to speak with confidence on my subject. At the end of the day, if you test a dryer sheet against a microfibre cloth (used or unused) you’ll get better results with a microfibre cloth every time. Is the hack to use a dryer sheet? Sure. But I don’t love the results. So I can disagree with myself - I am not so inflexible that I would not admit when I was wrong or have changed my opinion! I think that’s why people still keep me around after all these years 🤣🤣🤣.
@cleanmyspace
@cleanmyspace 2 года назад
So when I went to P&G, I learned a lot on that trip. Things I only could have experienced in a lab of that calibre. And when I saw those comparisons, I was very convinced. I wish I was paid for that trip. I currently don’t have sponsorship with Tide, I would love it if I did. And whenever I do have a partnership, I’m very transparent about it. As I said above, I do my best to learn as much as I can about my subject. I want to share the best info I can with the audience. I am also the first to speak up and say when I think a product is crap, and you don’t even know how many brands (and how much money!) I’ve turned away behind the scenes because I can’t get on board with saying something to my audience I don’t believe in. I hope that explains things a little more, at least from my side. I can’t speak for the others who have been, but that’s been my take ❤️❤️❤️
@Thepublicaccount
@Thepublicaccount 2 года назад
@@cleanmyspace I think everybody’s point is if you would’ve been transparent and said I went and I learned all of this but you clearly stated in your video I have been against this since day one and have never endorsed it when yes you did and then you just said above you did and just changed your mind. So you need to make a post and pick which side it is did you never say it or have you learned better ways because in your video you basically said everything you’ve never said but then above you say oh over the years I’ve just change my mind. It’s one thing to learn and change your mind but then to say in your video a lie that I never said do any of these hacks is that a lie because a lot of the stuff as you said since 2011 you have told people to do. Also you have to think about it lab results can show you anything that they want to I use tide for a lot of things but I can easily make Todd look like it does better than anything else but just making a few modifications and as you said this lab is at a caliber and a financial point they can make things look how they want. Tide was actually released as a do it all product and you would never need anything else in your home and then the very same company is saying oh yeah that’s true but then also you need to buy 50 other things. I would have no problem with you growing and changing your mind I do have a problem when you say I have never and since day one when I heard this told people not to do it those are two different things.

I beckon to differ on the vinegar and baking soda. One it’s all natural so if you have somebody with sensitivities and allergies you don’t have to worry about all the extra crap that manufacturers put in cleaners. To baking soda vinegar and lemon juice is the only cleaner I have found to remove not only the stains but the smell of a urine stained mattress. You mix it into a paste put it on the mattress scrub it into the mattress let it dry and vacuum it up. Works like a charm every time. Also works extremely well on hard water stains. It probably didn’t work for you because you had the wrong ratio. My guess is too much vinegar and not enough baking soda. And trust me I’ve been cleaning a lot longer than you.

@@angiebshouse from someone who aced multiple chemistry courses, baking soda and vinegar neutralize each other to create water, sodium acetate, and carbon dioxide. Using both ingredients in separate steps would have a better chance of success
@angiebshouse
@angiebshouse 2 года назад
@@camcat26 well then maybe adding the lemon juice had something to do with it. All I know is that when I use the baking soda vinegar and lemon juice make it into a paste and spread it on a urine stained and soaked mattress that it gets the stain and the smell out like nothing else I tried including cleaners made specifically for cleaning mattresses. Like I said in my previous content it could have something to do with the ratios. I don’t doubt that if you use equal parts vinegar and baking soda they do neutralize each other. But I tried it with just water and baking soda and lemon juice or just baking soda and lemon juice in something about adding the vinegar made a difference. In fact when I let it air dry after scrubbing it into the mattress there was a layer of baking soda left on the mattress that I had to vacuum up. The baking soda was discolored from the urine in the mattress was white again.

People should not be decanting their laundry products, even though it does look very pretty. These products require specific storage conditions, especially that they be stored in dark, opaque containers. Constant exposure to light will just make them expire faster.

Great video, Melissa! One weird hack that really does work is one I learned in basic training (USAF 1973-1979); toothpaste works great to remove black scuff marks from floors. Of course, you have to wash off the sticky residue afterward, but I haven't found another product that does that job. I am a Procter & Gamble investor, but I don't buy their laundry products. Most DIY laundry soaps, the ones made from shredded bar soap, leave a waxy residue on the fibers of clothing and linens, no surfactants so dirt settles back onto them. My own DIY laundry detergent is made with borax, Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, and Dawn dish detergent. I sanitize almost every load with oxygen bleach powder. Tide never did remove marinara stains from my white table linens, but this homemade detergent really DOES. It's the very best I've ever used in all my 72 years. No environmentally harmful chemicals, no plastic containers to send off to the recycling center. -

I made my own laundry soap. My whites turned dingy meaning the colors weren't right either. I've tried several of the hacks you show with the same results, didn't come clean and what little did come clean was because I scrubbed until my arms were sore. Now in the 70s the hairspray worked. Not sure what's different about it now but I'm sure it's not the same stuff. I'm sure someone sits around all night coming up with stuff for the gullible to do and are laughing their heads off that we think it's a good idea. That being said, everything I've used from your channel works. Simple ingredients, not expensive, does the job. Thanks a bunch for sharing with us.

I am somewhat confused cause In your older videos I thought you used baking soda and vinegar with dish soap…btw it does work to remove some grime off pots and pans but it is a lot more elbow grease than shown. I am not a fan of making laundry detergent but also not a fan of toxic tide w it’s huge plastic containers, when barely anything is actually recycled. I love your micro fiber and have used dryer balls for yrs, love them! You introduced me to vinegar as a fabric softener so thank you! Hacks a silly, but some maybe useful. Love the video but I disagree with the dryer sheets - I don’t see them pushing dirt around, instead they act like a microfiber cloth & trap dirt. Been using them to dust long before You Tube. I also put them in storage boxes/plastic totes that are stored for a long period of time, i.e., Christmas decorations- to keep them smelling better for when I reopen them.

I use them for dusting, too. Also, after washing my baseboards, I run a dryer sheet over them and it repels dust & pet hair so they stay clean for longer. I put them in our suitcases, storage bins, and shoes/boots we aren't wearing regularly to keep everything smelling good. I even put them in drawers and up on closet shelves to deter creepy crawlies....it seems they don't like the smell. Haven't had a bug in the house since we started doing this. I actually use Rain X on my full glass door that is on my front door area, ( its an interchangeable screen - glass or full screen) and it works amazing. I've used it for years, and no issues. As adults, I think we can pretty much ascertain how much washing soap ( detergent) one needs when doing laundry, even if decanting. The reason for decanting... if you've ever had mice eat through your laundry soap box.... yeah. Glass or hard plastic is kinda impervious to that. I am allergic to Tide, but I will use it every so often, the one that is " free and clear " of dyes, etc. Vinegar and salt cleans your copper bottomed pots and pans, works amazing. My GRANDMOTHER taught me that, back in the seventies. Yes, the fake stain things is ridiculous. I use Vinegar to clean my faucets , and I used to be a Professional Housekeeper, I never used these silly " hacks " ..... time wasters, really..... Not hacks. Use products intended for what you need to do, stop wasting time with things that are inferior and don't really get the job done.

You are so practical, honest, down to earth and most of all I love that you are not on the what I call “sleeping with the enemy” trend😂 which is everything decantered and perfectly put in beautiful baskets with pretty labels and everything (very strangely to me, lol) in such order that seems like nobody lives in that house or that you might be sleeping with the enemy😆(remember that movie?😄). Thanks so much for all your advise and all the effort you and your team put into finding out what works and what doesn’t🥰

I was surprised to learn that most washer manufacturers say not to use fabric softener. I've seen first hand the damage it can do so now I understand. Plus it's flammable on clothes!

Most recipes for homemade laundry "detergent" are not actually detergents by definition. Rather, they are usually a mix of soap, borax, and washing soda - none of which are detergents. That being said, I do make my own laundry powder because I get terrible skin reactions to commercial laundry detergents, even the unscented ones. So, there is a place for home made mixes for those of us who can't use commercial products. Sadly, the homemade powders do require washing in hot water, or at least pre-dissolving in hot water. I'd be glad to switch back if someone would make a laundry detergent that I could use.

I used the borax, washing soda and felz naphtha bar soap for years. It took less than 10 minutes to make a big batch. It was very affordable and It got my clothes clean and odor free and didn't gunk up my washing machine like liquid soap and fabric softener.

Literally saw a TikTok where a woman mopped her wood floors with powdered tide, fabuloso, and a cascade dishwasher pod. Besides mixing all of those chemicals which is a bad idea, I’m pretty sure using a dish detergent which is designed to break down food particles would completely tear up the finish on your floor. Plus those are REALLY expensive cleaning products. Powdered tide is a really popular suggestion for mopping your floor and as a cleaning solution too. Anyways there’s a lot bad cleaning advice on TikTok. Glad you did a video addressing these!

@Thepublicaccount
@Thepublicaccount 2 года назад
@@DoctorsSong that’s strange it’s she saying she reached out to Ty and they don’t recommend it because when Todd was released and until about six months ago they told you to use tide on everything the powdered version. And it’s really funny that she says that but then tied endorsed and gave a deal to another influencer cleaner that basically has a cleaning business and uses tied for absolutely everything she cleans almost. So why would Tide pay somebody to miss use their product. I’m not sure how much I trust Melissa‘s word anymore because in this video she said I have never endorsed certain things and then above when people called her out on it she just said she just changed her mind on how she uses products since 2011 forward and she forgets what hat she suggested because she’s put out so many videos which says she’s not putting out videos that are helpful she’s just putting out something trendy to make money so now after all these years of following her I question how much is truth.

Problem one, getting *anything* from 5 minute hacks. That said, I used to use rainX on my tub/shower surround (before the internet was widely available and YT didn't exist) and it did help reduce the amount of hard water and scum build up becuase the water beads and runs off. I spray it with an all purpose cleaner made of water, peppermint oil, a tsp of Alcohol when I've finished my shower or bath and simply rinse. I apply it to the outside of my appliances well. I even put it on my range. However I would not put it on a range if you have and use a self cleaning oven. The wax is made to be heat safe to around 450°F, but if you clean your oven or bake at a higher degree it could possibly cause an issue. For a range use at your own risk. It makes everything clean up easier. It's fabulous on stainless!

I have used toothpaste to take off other stains since then. But in general on white surfaces, not faucets.

I appreciate all of your tips, I am trying to be more sustainable. Could you please comment on the new laundry soap sheets. I have been shopping with Grove Collaborative and it's not really more expensive for the cleaners. They just use refillable glass bottles, and small concentrates. It would be great if you could try them out and spread the word. True earth is the laundry sheets I ordered, but want to use the huge containers of gain and tide to get them out of the way. Thanks. My girls have teased me about my uses for oxyclean. I found a bin of barbies in the backyard that was full of rain water, mold, and yuck! I filled a clean bin with water and oxyclean, and left them in overnight. The next day they were like new. Clean in all the nooks and crannies, even the hair was clean and combable. That's my rant. Thanks for your help with the most redundant issue in every home...cleaning!

Respectfully....that zote bar is a game changer. In hot water it makes whites bright without clorine bleach. And def removes odors. Been using it for yrs..... Using borax works for cleaning your tub, sink and boosts whatever clothes detergent you use. Even if you use these products to wash by hand they still work. To each their own. Even grated Ivory soap, it leaves a nice scent behind.😊💕
