These statements and actions of SOME people are the cause, not our system of government. The Republicans are fomenting this behavior, and shame on them. The Republicans lost big today. Denounce Trump and his hooligans. Impeachment and '25' proceedings must be initiated. It doesn't matter that there are only 2 weeks left. It doesn't matter that this would be a second impeachment attempt. A sitting president can't be arrested and charged. The political remedy is impeachment. Collusion of the govt with big corporations. When govt makes fair rules and when the market is more open things work out nicely mostly. Right now the govt makes unfair rules that give companies advantages that are huge, and then the rules and regulations keep competition and small guys out too which means prices suck. For example with college, we give banks huge incentive by insuring that student loans have no way of being discharged in bankruptcy like normal debt. If the student doesn't pay, then the tax payer will be obligated to guarantee the pay back instead. Bad incentive and laws. Next, colleges have the ability to keep jacking up the rate of tuition because the govt won't stop lending out more and more money to students. So there's no reason for schools to bring down rates or force themselves to chill on rate increases because the money the govt will approve to lend is never ending... end result? Americans get screwed because they have to take on debt to go to college, and when they do they have no way of ever getting rid of this debt even if they end up injured or otherwise not really able to even make money to pay said debts off! In the USSR the idea that govt didn't cover the cost of food and Americans mostly paid out of pocket for their food was a shock! How could the govt not be primarily the feeder of Americans? How did they not starve?? I think that it should be possible to bring more healthcare costs down if the insurance companies and drug companies didn't have unfair monopoly rules. If we can go to the store and afford food reasonably, why not most common medical expenses? Then, we could just use insurance for big deals because many smaller day to day matters could be handled with fair prices and market competition. Look at the awful job govt does at the DMV, public schools, welfare, etc etc...and tell me you want them necessarily in charge of healthcare? I would rather healthcare be forced to follow FAIR rules, and for us to have lots of options to customize and choose from than for us to be stuck all having a huge monopoly, stagnant system like the govt for ALL of us for healthcare all the time. If insurance for health was something that we didn't need for tiny expenses ( like a simple broken bone or UTI, or a couple of stitches), and just for big surgeries, cancer, chronic diseases, etc then maybe we could bring down costs a ton that way too. As a nurse I can assure you the costs and profits are NOT coming out way at all! We are getting used just as much as the average consumer.

Hitler failed at his first attempt to govern Germany. He came back a few years later and took over Germany, most of the German people supported him. You know the rest. tRump and family are the American equivalent of Hitler in the 1930s .

How is it avoided, when the majority in the parliament also controls the government? I grew up in Communist Czechoslovakia. It used to be a highly democratic country. Then the Communists won the parliament, got their party members to become ministers (heads of government departments) and the president could not stop them because in the parliamentary system the president is just a figure head. And it took 31 years and a revolution to end the reign of terror. At least in the US the party that controls the government does not necessarily control the Congress. The problem is not the system, the problem is the Evangelicals who hate the system and have been hard working to undermine it for decades. They object to freedom of religion, they believe they have a duty to their god to overturn the freedom of religion and to impose their particular version of their particular religion on everyone. And to burn the heretics who disagree with them.

They even closed the borders to any but the other Communist countries, so none of us could see how the rest of the world lives (I was born in 1950, two years after the Communists took power, so all I knew about the real world was what my parents told me but that did not seem real). They controlled us so much that after I fled to the neighboring Austria at the age of 29 (in 1979), I did not believe I suddenly had the freedom to think and say what I wanted, even to go wherever I wanted. I even believed (not philosophically, but psychologically, despite being a psychologist myself) that the Austrians had all those rights but I did not because of all the conditioning I had gone through as not being an individual but just a part of the masses, just like a drop of water had no individuality in a lake or ocean).
