Age of Wonder 4's first DLC Dragon Dawn gameplay is here in an early access press preview build thanks to Paradox Interactive (NOT sponsored). For those wondering why it's already here, they said : "The Dragon Dawn Content Pack and the massive free Wyvern update that accompanies it are nearing completion. I can already say that the date may be closer than you think. We are on target to make this the fastest DLC / major patch release after launch for an AoW game." And it was in the post the 31st of May, this update is planned for the 20th of June.

Kind of hope that modders jump on the dragon lord as a chance to get more quadrupedal animal leaders. I've always liked the idea of a mythical creature, either benevolent or otherwise, as a guide to creatures very unlike itself.

I hope the developers add a lot more story events. After playing a few campaigns, I am already seeing the same events in every playthrough. Adding more Hero items would also help differentiate playthroughs.

Events and items are little things that are nice but what they really need are new cultures and to expand the roster of existing cultures. I get tomes are supposed to be important but I should just replace or get rid of all my feudal units because they are none tier 4 and 5 units to use.

would be cool if we saw minotaurs in the game period. That being said after this dragon DLC we get an Empire DLC, a Forest animals DLC, and a Eldritch Horrors DLC and I don't think any of those 3 will come with races but who knows. Maybe next year!

@@zacharyjackson1829 the empire will bring a culture and tomes, the forest and eldrich both say in the expansion descriprion forms so maybe 2 races each, at the end it might be 2 more cultures and at least 4 new forms

@Xarathos86 I'm aware of the dlc descriptions. They went out of their way to say that the dragon dlc was gonna have a "Race" so I don't think "form" is gonna equal a race but of course who knows!

When you conquer a city, you can both wait a turn (or 2 - don't know the limit) and also abort your choice in a subsequent turn and change your mind. Great to see your channel taking off too :)

just an FYI, you can choose NOT to do anything to a conquered city for a turn to wait for the Imperium needed to Absorb Scragheim

Not just a turn you can wait at least 4 turns as far as I know probably no limit so long as you have a unit on the city

Hi hi, just commenting on the issue you found at 17:30 ish. There is an option to move them along, but you have to have a hero unit in the stack to activate it. Also, so damned excited for this! I love the way Thelma grew a green belly!

Man is hoarder going to be a good Material affinity build. Being able to prospect hero items will make the early/mid gold droughts much more manageable.

I think it would be more accurate to say that dragons are strong through levels alone, while heroes need levels *and items* to achieve full strength. This makes dragons riskier early on, but extremely powerful late. Also, even if you lose a battle, you won't lose nearly as many items, so you can be a little more reckless.

@@theslayer5978 Not to that extent, they aren't. First level of Dragon Scales just gives you +5 resistance to your affinity element, and then another +5 resistance at the 2nd tier. I can only assume that a 3rd tier might give you immunity, or something very close to it.

Have you considered combing the Dragon Lord with the Tier 5 Demonic Avatar summon? It lets you summon a copy of your lord. Which, in _this_ case... /gestures wildly

This DLC looks great. I must say, when you picked lizardfolk I thought it would be cool if the form you choose gave a unique unit and a spell or two, kind of like a bonus tome without affinity. It would add some nice flavor to the forms

I wish that the new Traits would prevent you from settling more cities.. Like, it would be cool if the Dragons didnt have cities but a Burrow. And that Burrow has unique mechanics and things to build in it. I think that would have made more sense than just having a Dragon lead a Nation

The fact that this dlc is coming out a month after release tells me everything i need to know. They cut this content from the base game to sell to us as dlc.

I would consider this a more sound criticism if the base game were not well polished and in a mostly bug free "feature complete" state at launch. There was a pretty bad crash bug but it was squashed within a day or so. I hate anti consumer practices and lament the direction the industry is headed, but by speaking frankly I consider Triumph to be one of the good ones, despite the past abuses of Paradox.

Campaign is completely and utterly embarrassingly garbage. Only 5 missions which is really like 3 because the first 2 are tutorials. The game only being fun with mods

you're a giant juggernaut with breath attacks, charge resistance, and flying. and that's all from turn 1. There has to be a reason to pick normal lords and part of that should be access to more equipment

It's a bit strange that this game doesn't support mouse and keyboard on consoles. Esp considering the fact that they've minimally optimized for controller compared to other games. It's tedious to navigate to even the most mundane stuff. They already have the mouse and keyboard options for PC so why not kust port those options over? Ps5 and Xbox both support mouse and keyboard Also I just finished the beginners scenario and by the end of it (I took my time and explored the game ended at turn 130 or so with a magic victory) but the game crashed like 5 times during my playthrough esp late game. And I got incredible lag while ending my round and other stuff. So I'm pretty worried for a big map late game

I only wish the dragons models had more variety in terms of body shape.. They all have the silhouette of a Horse with wings and long neck. Wingless dragons and asian dragons could be good alternatives in term of bodies. I don't know why they didn't use wyverms too..they have them as regular units but a wyverm dragón lord (like smaug) would be cool or a wingless dragón like Glaurong.

What Jumbo has is a preview, obviously when they're giving people access to show it off it's pretty much done. The fact that it's done now doesn't mean it was ready to be included 4-6 months ago.

why? The base game is a fully functional, complete game without microtransactions you can get right now for about 35 bucks on game key websites, probably cheaper during the next sale on steam or immediately on steam for 50. As they continue to expand this already complete game with aditional, optional content, it's completely fair they sell it. DLC's are only scummy if they are ORIGINALLY parts of the main game that were cut out before launch so that they can sell you the unfinished product (Borderlands) and bill you again for the missing pieces or if they're lazy overpriced additions (Sims) meant to milk fans for as much of their money as possible. This AoW4 DLC on the other hand offers so much actual ingame content and a ton of additionaly assets they had to craft , namely the lizardfolk, dragons, new tomes and so on. AND they also release a free content update, rebalance and bug fix on top. They are using the DLC sales model in the msot ethical way imaginable and the way it was originally meant to be used.

They could have released it with a very simple version included in the game, but they wanted to go all out on the dragons, which required more time and funding.

AoW4 huge downgrad from AoW2. All infrastructure looks the same? all the units are pretty much the same? races are literally the same, just visually different? ingame music is so boring, the list goes on. AoW2 felt so much more epic. Just compare ingame music man... completely different league
