Question Rick, if the dimple pattern is supposed to be better through the air, wouldn’t a simulator test not show the full picture because it’s only measuring launch conditions?

I agree Jimbo
@alexgoudkov4109
@alexgoudkov4109 3 года назад
Yup, this is what these testers don't get. While yes there is a difference in a dimple pattern for the first few inches of flight, main difference comes later in flight. Now, there might be no diffecnce, because it could all be marketing jargon. However, these should be tested with a trackman outside to see if there is any difference.
@MeFreeBee
@MeFreeBee 3 года назад
Agree. A launch monitor will calculate flight based on assumptions about the ball's flight characteristics. If the dimple pattern does anything then those assumptions are likely wrong.

yeah i was wondering how the wind would affect this ball , i've noticed a shallow dimpled ball like a titleist AVX will cut through wind much better than something designed for more spin / deeper old school dimples, still a great video though

Rick, how do you expect to test the differences in dimple pattern on a simulator? Different dimple patterns will create different turbulent flows around the ball, which could effect how the ball reacts to spin, speed, and wind. The simulator does not have the ability to read the dimple pattern change it's ball physics. To properly test this you'll have to go outside and use a radar ball tracker like the Trackman or something.
@wakimura303
@wakimura303 3 года назад
The reason that this can be tested indoors is because of the package’s claims. It claimed to have higher energy return and that’s something that gc quad would pick up

The GC Quad machine is amazing that it can develop so much information in the micro-second of impact and flight for the first few feet. But how does it account for aerodynamic differences in the balls to determine their flight characteristics? I don't believe it can...so two identical construction balls with different dimple patterns could appear to be identical on the GC Quad but vastly different in how high they go and how far they fly. Hitting them out in the real world would be the only way to show if the dimple pattern on the Bridgestone actually works or not.

As a relatively beginner golfer, I use the Bridgestone e6's. When I get better I will bump up to the better Bridgestones. I love these golf balls...also its probably a bit supersticious, mental, habit for me to play the Bridgestone
@Mububban23
@Mububban23 Год назад
I play the E6 straight ball, and as for the "straight" claim, it'll save you from one degree of trouble. So instead of being out of bounds, you'll be in the deep rough. Instead of deep rough, you'll be in the light rough. Instead of light rough you'll just stay within the fairway. Compared to many many other balls I've tried, E6 makes a tangible difference for me. And yet it still stops well on approach shots and chipping around the green. Surprisingly so for a "game improvement ball" that often spin like rocks. Of course, if you put an absolutely terrible swing on it, you can still hook it or slice it to kingdom come and lose your ball, it's a good ball but it's not magic 😄

Back in 1978 My first job was with a testing company and we tested a dozen golf at a club in Arizona. The balls were hit by local pros and college players. One the balls , an Omega , had this dimple pattern . It performed well but did not beat some of the balls that the pros normally use. They kept the design for a few years and then discontinued it.

Trajectory is everything in golf shots. It is what makes drives roll for extra distance after carry and approach shots not roll off of greens. The challenge is designing a ball which can do both: lower trajectory for drives, approach shots which drop like mortar shells. Since most shots are lost around the green I value the ‘drops like a mortar’ quality with mid and even long irons vs distance off the tee.

Rick, I was one of the testers for this golf ball about a month before it came out and I have to say I was shocked at this balls performance in the wind. I just happened to test this ball on two fairly windy days (15-25mph). The wind could not touch this ball, it absolutely just cut through the air. I am wondering if this technology will go into their Tour line because I currently play the Tour BX and I am seriously considering changing which is bad for Bridgestone because I will now spend less lol. I know you can’t quite fully test outdoors yet but it’s worry a try when you can because it’s performance in the wind is where it really shines.

Distance on my irons was exceptional, for my swing, on iron shots, these types of balls tend to fly further and straighter. On my driver shots, Pro V's beat this thing all day, but i'm not sure by how much. I didn't hit it as far as i hit my Pro V's with driver, but that's my swing, FWIW.

@andrewgudgeonobe2721
@andrewgudgeonobe2721 2 года назад
Sand off the dimples and play the ball. It will go between half and three quarters of the distance. Why? It is all to do with the turbulence of the air over the surface of the ball. When you add dimples you affect what is known as the Reynolds number. The lower the number the more laminate the flow, the higher the number the more turbulent. Dimple patterns therefore help,optimise spin and flight characteristics. Ball manufacturers adjust dimple patterns to improve ball,performance by optimising the Reynolds number across a range of ball strikes. So, do not be surprised to see different dimple patterns; it is fluid mechanics at work.

Thanks for the review. Would a 80-90 mph swing get more distance compared to other brands like Srixon Qstar tour, TM Tour Response ? That test would be interesting. Also how do the other brands perform on spin n peak height.

The Bridgestone balls are going to take over in the uk in my opinion, tiger woods and dechambeau use them. Two players realllyyyy into detailed specs. Also Jason day has started using it 👀👀

You should do a review on the Chromax neon green M5 golf ball. “Easiest ball to find” and gives a “competitive visual advantage” slightly gimmicky but above average performance considering.

It looks very similar to the Polara Ultimate Straight you did a review on awhile back.

Rick, I miss your club reviews. Would love to see you review the Mizuno STZ fairway wood! Maybe replace old Bluey.

Rick, have you ever done a review on the Taylormade RBZ soft balls? I have found for the price to me it matches or exceeds the Callaway Chromesofts on every level at a 5th of the price.

Will you retest these on the course? I'm assuming the GC4 doesn't account for the aerodynamic differences of the different dimples

You know Rick in light of the pandemic as soon as the courses open up we could all use a good “Second Hand Club Challenge”. I know the last was the final but special circumstance deems special measures.

Hi Rick I have notice in your last few videos that you have made you want to gain distance.Why not do a review on different x-stiff shaft weights to see which shaft will give you that extra distance you lost in the past few years. Thanks for all the amazing videos love to watch them.😁

Looks to be a combination of two 70s golf balls. The Royal ball and the Wilson ProStaff

The numbers with the Bridgestone are near perfect and you get a carry of 280 yards . I just wonder if you would get more ground distance with a slightly less lofted driver ?
