I love listening to you play on Friday Fretworks, Chris. Obviously you are ‘unapologetically’ a Blues/ Rock guitarist, but you go so far beyond that pigeonhole, playing achingly beautiful and at times almost cinematic melodies, cliche free and with phrasing and a feel that very few can get anywhere near. Carry on, please!
I like the word “cinematic” to describe Chris’ playing. The flow in his solos may sound familiar but the notes he reaches for are totally unique. He really could do movie arranging.
I am always amazed at how a basic, simple guitar like the Tele can sound so great played in genres from country to rock to jazz, they are just so good, and so are you Chris.
MY GOSH!!! That intro GOLD TOP deluxe jam was insane!!! its what i dream to be able to play!!! just freaking WOW. you never cease to amaze me with the dynamics and bends and tasteful tone that allow each note to have a voice
Playing, as always is stellar BUT the clip of the Nocaster really stood out as everything a solo should be. Sounds like it came out of song - catchy with motifs I find myself humming afterwards. More of that please!
Dude! I’ve been out of the youtube guitar game for a while, you were always a sick player but you’ve reached a new level since last I saw one of you vids 🤯👏
All of those guitars sounded just spectacular. However…lol the Tele wow! No wonder the dude kept it. Of course having someone who can brings those sounds and tones forward absolutely helps. Great video.
Some real beauties there... as a strat guy for the last 30odd years, your recent videos have made me obtain a Revstar and a Les Paul. What was I thinking all these years not having humbuckers and P90s in my arsenal of guitars. So out of all these here it's the LP for me.
Chris, I cannot describe the emotion you bring out in me when you play, there are very few players who 'touch that spot' in my musical psyche. As your much older (60), first namesake guitar playing brother, take this thing where it needs to go... thanks much.
Man that tele almost had me in tears. Your playing so pure. Coupled with those legendary tools, its actually healing for the soul. Keep ‘em coming! Love the content.
Absolutely fantastic. Bravo bravo bravo... I have been playing guitars for over 40 years. RU-vid is full of videos of talented guitarists but I have to say that you have really impressed me: sound, bending, timing, phrasing, everything that a musician/guitarist must have. But your feeling and phrasing they truly hit me. So you got a new fan from Italy. Thank you very much for sharing.
True mastery of the guitar. The playing of course, but the way you effortlessly change pickups, volume and tone is amazing. You switch from picking to fingering like a magician. Next level guitar playing.
Absolutely phenomenal. I don’t have the vocabulary to say anything else. I’ve never seen anyone “ play “ the guitar the way you do. You always hear people say whatever you are doing, be it guitar , cycling , car racing, that you must let the vehicle , in this case a guitar , become an extension of one’s self. I haven’t seen anyone do it better.
Your playing is totally on another level and you are fast becoming my favourite guitar player. I’d love it if you’d release the instrumentals on these videos as an album or playlist on Spotify. They’re too good to just stay on RU-vid. I want to be able to listen to them all the time!!!
It takes a rare combination of skill and passion to have each guitar bring out something so different and still so recognizable from you/from it. Thank you! Take care
Wow that was one hell of a journey you took a song Chris I love all those guitars but most of all I love the chops I just recently clicked on one of your videos and started checking your playing out needless to say wow thank you Chris Buck
Jazzmasters seem to get a lot of (well deserved) hype recently with many artists, like Chris Stapleton, playing nearly exklusively on them. My dad left me a nearly authenic (some wireing and the pickup spacers) '61 it's sound really is nice and great to play. Though my personal love is for the Tele.
I don’t want to be too much on the fan side. BUT man, you deserve 1 billion subs and to be in the pantheon of guitar players. I don’t care what you play. There is no channel on youtube with more feelings in every note you play… i m more than impressed
Part of the excitement I get from watching your videos, is the fear of getting smacked in the face by the headstock when you whack that thing torwards the lens every 15 seconds 😜
The V caught my ear. Nice bright tone! I never noticed the bridge pup is closer to the bridge than an LP or SG, until just now when I looked for it. Such phenom playing dude- your are a gifted guitarists. Melodic and creative.
I very much enjoyed this episode. You seemed to connect with the Tele best, what an amazing sound! Although the Flying V was my favorite and most unique to me. Thanks for sharing and hope you feel better! Cheers from VA 🤘🏻 P.S. I love how you sneak in those fingertips on your pick hand for better tone 😉, I do the same and swear it sounds better!
Chris's playing reminds me of Jeff Beck's because Jeff was influenced by showmen. The idea that a performer could cause wonder and excitement by showing you something amazing, but being so well practiced at it that your brain actually thinks the impossible is possible. Magic, essentially. Beck was more influenced by early rock guitar players and so had a much different style than Chris, but I still hear sort of the same kind of casual magic and humble flash in Chris's playing. It's like coming down from Olympus with some of Zeus's thunderbolts; the audience is excited but the performer says, "I appreciate that, but it's not me, it's the Gods."
The John Thomas Burst is to die for (almost 😉). Chris mentions JT’s playing with Budgie, but before he joined them, he played with the George Hatcher Band who I saw several times, mainly at the Marquee Club In Wardour Street., where he always played that LP, and it sounded phenomenal. It can be heard at its wailing best on ‘Rockin’ in the Morning’, the last track of the GHB album ‘Dry Run’. I can certainly hear a Paul Kossoff influence there.
