Brazilian Marina Amaral, born in 1994, was studying international relations at university. But her twin passions for history and photography led her to abandon her studies to become a full-time artist. And her chosen medium is the colorization of historical photographs. It’s a skill that she’s honed to perfection and one she’s recently used for a project that combines a poignant sense of horror with a deep respect for humanity.

Patriotism dividing the world and thus creating more than enough war-emergence potential isn't dead yet and the USA's patriotism is far more dangerous than singular patriotic movements found in European countries at the moment. It is astonishing that so many patriotic, nationalist people still claim to be against antidemocratic nazi ideology, when they are the ones unwilling to stop segregating the world by labelling people in nationalist categories nobody has ever been able to actively choose in the first place. Faschist movements really could evolve anytime all over the world where mainstream culture prides itself on regional exclusivity and ostracism. It is true that the USA were amongst the countries ending Germany's nazi-regime, but it is inappropiate to imagine the USA as selfless peace-activists nonetheless - In all likelihood, the USA's main wish was not so much to save the world from harmful ideologies, but mainly to expand their own seemingly superior empire based on quasi-democratic values and managed by quasi-democratic capitalist elitists further. Unluckily, they haven't stopped doing so ever since.

They really had no way at all to resist. However those that had weapons created militias and joined resistance teams. When you leave yourself defenseless this is usually the result. look the artists point of colouring this photos was to let people feel more empathy for these prisoners. their original pictures were monochrome, which may lead some to just not bother to care, since they probably didn't look human. it was harder to relate, it was less real. after the artist coloured it, you could see more life in these photos, hence you could feel more. they were humans too. you could empathise with them more. and more feelings were expressed through the colours, hinting more about the hardships and misery during the nazi propaganda

@That Guy James - It seems to me that those who want to believe in the Holocaust with their whole hearts and souls are really the most hateful and vicious ones on either side. Just looking at some of the comments under your post as well as the original post itself, a person can almost feel the seething rage which is very emotional but not very logical. It reminds me exactly of the astonishing hatefulness of liberals towards anyone who has a different belief or opinion - I think it's a mental illness of a kind, when you have to hatefully de-humanize others and refuse to have a conversation EVEN when you insist on shouting your opinion. I am not arguing for or against a belief in the Jewish Holocaust, by the way - just noting how much worse the attitudes and statements are of those who insist it's all true, as demonstrated here.
