I used to see so many different species insects when I was a kid (Lady Bugs, Grasshoppers, bees, beetles, Praying Mantises, etc). Now as an adult living in the same area the only ones I ever see are occasional houseflys, mosquitoes, black ants, and wasps.

When it comes to bees a lot of the hype doesn't take into account that bees used in industrial agriculture are treated poorly. Small scale beekeepers who learn from others and don't move around bees to pesticide-ridden orchards find their bees are much happier.
@BridgesDontFly
@BridgesDontFly 2 года назад
States should raise the bee property tax exemption % and require less of a requirement to be approved. Rather than 6 hives (depending on location) 3 hives should be good enough to file for ag exemption. I'm allergic to bees. Sorry, but that's nature's way of natural selection.

@@KHEENGS Apparently you're not a property owner. *An exemption benifits the owner not the government* I'll explain. An exemption benifits the owner of the property by lowering their taxes based on appraised value (in most areas) determined by local appraisal districts. This is why an individual with 5 cows (or 6 beehives) can have 50 acres of land and pay less in property taxes than someone with only 5 acres. Other exemptions- Homestead, Disabled person, Disabled veteran, Wildlife, Ag, Native grassland, Native pasture, Religious, Other (old age), ect. Research- hint hint...

The issue with declining insect populations is the same with climate shifts/change, there is a far too large portion of humans who LIKE it because it's more comfortable for them. I've had several people who say things like 'it's good that winters are FAR more mild and there isn't snowfall, I hate snow and am happy to see it go' same here, 'it's good these bugs are gone, they were annoying and now I don't have to use bug repellent and my windshields have never been cleaner'.

I noticed this too. I used to live in Mexico until 2018. I have always had problems with huge amounts of insects getting into my home. It was just part of normal life. Then I moved to PA and immediately noticed that there were almost no insects anywhere. So I grew accostumed to the whole no insect thing. I returned to my home in Mexico after that, but something has been weird since. I first noticed we didn't have insects when I rejoiced at the fact that I hadn't seen a centipede (fairly dangerous here) all year, then it hit me... there are pretty much no insects anymore, and I live in an area that people could call "rural."

I've always been a huge fan of insects. And hearing this just makes me so sad! When I think of living without fruits and vegetables...that sounds so depressing. People need to stop looking at or hearing about insects and just straight up say that they are demons and all deserve to die! Because they don't! I hope that more people will actually decide to listen and become more aware of this so we can help insects and stop treating them so terribly! Thanks for making this video. I love it when people tell others about these things that need to be known about. :)

That Danish guy reminds me of the great Monarch Migrations. As a kid, we would study them and grow our own catapillars in class, to assist in increasing the population. We used to get a seriously inhibiting mass of Monarch Butterflies, just cruising around town for a week or two. Soo massive, you could no joke catch hundreds with a single swipe of a net. And now I don't remember the last time I've even seen a single Monarch Butterfly. They've just upped and gone as far as I'm concerned, it just seems weird.

I'm no tree hugger, but I have common sense. We need bees. I was born in the early 70's. I remember seeing swarms of bees during the spring and summer time. Butterflies everywhere. I haven't seen a swarm of bees in over ten years. I try to buy organic when I can for myself and my family. Organic prices have really come down over the years. I still think we need to stop all the chemicals on our crops. When I had my vegetable garden, I ordered a ton, not actually a ton, but a bunch of praying mantis pods along with ladybugs to guard my plants. The praying mantis would take care of the cut worms for my tomatoes and other plants. The ladybugs would take care of the aphids. Bugs are good if managed in a good way. Make them work for you. I'd have an urban hive if I could, however my wife is deathly allergic to bees.

Growing up in rural KY I remember going through my parents property 18 years ago you would see tons of grass hoppers, mantis, and little leaf hoppers in the recent years I have noticed seeing hardly any.

As a kid, we would go out and catch fireflies and there would be dozens of them. Now, we are lucky to see two or three, if any.
