Old player here. I started Master Duel on release not playing the card game since the DDD Structure deck, and thanks to Master Duel I caught up incredibly fast as an F2P and constantly hit Diamond rank any time I want to play on ladder. 10/10 great way to catch-up if you're will to give it the time of day

lmao, me too. last time i played yugioh before master duel was on ps1 (its not even an actual yugioh duel game). Ive been playing as f2p with salad deck, and i still can climb my way to diamond 1. i'd give master duel 8/10 score just because the lag is so annoying on phone.

@@kadinkumala7646 to think that the lag actually only happened on android and not ios baffles me. But they do gradually fix it, instead of 15fps max that drains 50% battery in 30 mins, we now have 30 fps max that drain 25% in 1 hour. Still not good but it's improvement.

They should make a single player mode that focuses on common staples and deck building strategies. It seems like a lot of newcomers would use something like that. I bet it probably is frustrating to play the game if you don’t know you’re supposed to have at least couple hand traps in most decks.

Boomer here. Played TCG back in the OG days (02-05). Stopped playing once I started college. Was nothing personal. Just had other interests. Near the start of 2022, I'm casually strolling through my PSN and see a friend playing MD. Caught my interest even more when I saw it was F2P. Was hesitant at first. I was overwhelmed by all the changes over the years. Synchros, XYZs, Pendus, handtraps etc. It was a rough transition. Over time, I figured out the modern playstyle from replays, watching numerous youtubers/twitch streamers, and of course playing online myself. I've reached Gold rank once and hope to get to Plat at least once. I'd describe the transition like a storm. Its rough and rocky at first, but if you ride it out and learn the modern style its completely possible for any ogs to get back into yugioh. The problem is there are so many changes most older players just dip out after a game. I recommend joining a discord server or finding a friend who can walk you through it for anyone struggling.

To be fair to the second guy, the fact that there will always be an optimal strategy doesn't mean that other strategies shouldn't also be viable or unaccessible. Like, Team Fortress 2 is a wonderful example of this, since most of the unlocks are more sidegrades than upgrades. Even though there may be an overall optimal build for every class, there are gimmicks that fit the play style of some players better than those optimal builds, and you can find just as much success using some of those gimmicks as you can the optimal strategy if you are skilled enough. YuGiOh unfortunately will never be like that due to it's design principles, which is something you will need to go through the five stages of grief for.

I'm a player who only played the PS Vita games in like 2011, I live in a part of the world where there's no yugioh locals, found Master duel by coincidence last June, was amazed to catch up to see all the new support for archetypes I enjoyed, found a deck I liked and played it till I reached diamond, then started branching out and learning new decks every few months all f2p, I'm 28, I work 12 hs shifts, 5 days a week, this game is the only way to someone like me to enjoy yugioh and have some fun in my regular days and it's been a blast. With resources like RU-vid and MDMeta I catched up pretty quick and had fun feeling like I'm a part of a community with people who enjoys the same things as I do. My guess most bad reviews are from people who didn't want to invest the time to learn, every multiplayer game have a learning curve, maybe it's just not for them. It took me time to learn competitive Pokemon, it took time to learn overwatch, if it's fun and engaging you'll do it, if it's not your cup of tea, maybe you should just stick to the type of games you enjoy.

I love Master Duel, but I get where the "i like games that allow any playstyle" is coming from. It's not a matter of wanting to play a specific character/build/deck/archetype like wanting to play Reaper in OW or Ahri in LoL, but actually a playstyle kind of deal, as in "offense" in OW or "AOE Mage" in LoL. It always feels bad when one style of play completely overwhelms others in a game, like when tanks are too tanky for glass cannons to be playable in OW or when all the top characters have such high burst damage that they can one-shot any mage in LoL, forcing everyone to play bulky slow characters or super high damage assassins. Same goes for YGO. It doesn't really matter how big, complicated, or long the combo is for each deck, but rather what the final endboard/counterplayability is. Even if Dark Magician is bad, as long as there's another "tanky hard to kill monster" deck that's kind of viable like Rank 10 Trains, I enjoy it. Even if Magical Scientist is banned, as long as there's another kind of viable gimmicky OTK deck like Numeron, I enjoy it. Even if Guru decks aren't that good, as long as there's another kind of viable stun deck like Runick, I enjoy it. Many of these decks are hated, but even so they play very differently to one another. Even in the TCG, Splights and Tearlaments do play pretty damn differently, so I liked it when there were other decks like Mathmech that was getting plenty of play. Despite Tearlament mirrors being heavily skill-based, I don't really enjoy it as much because the playstyle has gotten pretty similar and only really for that reason. I do like modern OCG where people are also playing Labrynth, Exosisters, etc. even though Tear is still dominating, but if all those decks were like Tear in terms of gameplay, I would hate it even though they are technically different decks. That being said, there was a short time in Master Duel where, for like a week, every deck I played against was putting up Rhongonymiad or True King of Calamities, and the only reason I still had fun during other weeks of the same meta was because there were other decks like Tri-Zoo or Adamancipators that were meta, even though those are still heavily oppressive and could prevent me from playing all the same.

Yugioh has always been a “chance” game. From the hand you open with to the opponent you’re matched up with. Konami is kind of getting better with shutting out FTK decks who also have the same issues as any other deck, if you open with everything you need or brick. In a best of 1 format, you have no idea how many times that ftk deck got stomped before beating you and that’s the realm I live in, it’s called reality.

Like I once raged at yugioh master duel, but it is not the game's fault, like it is just that u have to certain cards in ur deck in order for u to bypass ur enemies' deck, like i can assure u the reason many players who quit master duel or hate it is because their old deck doesn't even compete with new meta, like bro u have to add and improve ur deck, add impermenance or droplet for monster negates, red reboot for trap negates, max c(although i think this card should burned to hell not just banned) players need to start thinking about the meta and how to counter them by adding new cards(watch some yugioh streamers who will teach u how to counter the new meta , i learnt a lot from them especially distantcoder i learnt from him the code talker deck and improved upon it myself), in many games including fps games there are new characters who r op or meta and u have to play them to compete and win, u have to accept that, this game developed over the years ...

I believe the reason many yugiboomers say that in old times the game was more fun because there is no meta deck or stuff like that, I believe they play playground yugioh, where there is no many rules, you do things base on the first anime (Duel monsters) and they doesn't know what a real meta deck is, I think these are the ones complay about the game. But, there is yugiboomers that play GOAT and still call the game nowdays stupid, these are the hypocrit ones, since GOAT it's a format where like 70% of the deck it's staples of the time and the remain % it's just random cards they would like to play, in most cased they doesn't use they and just play the staple ones.

GOAT actually required skill, not modern YGO where you simply go first with a stupidly op metadeck and proceed to lock your opponent out of the game then proceed to otk them the very next turn. They probably played against some combo deck (like adamancipator) and thought it was the most OP crap out there. I started playing Yugioh as a kid with a structure deck with some Umi cards, then I played with the XYZ (Utopia ❤️) and left it until the release of Master Duel. Upon arrival it can be overwhelming to see how much the game has evolved, but it doesn't cost anything to READ what the cards do for a while, it is a faith the most broken skills you can learn in modern Yugioh, with this you can beat any meta deck using rare things from rogue

Hi. I am one of those who do not like to play YGO (despite sincere intentions). Here are the reasons: - lack of keywords - while I am able to understand that it takes time to learn the game, with YGO it is impossible, each card has a wall of text and it takes at least a minute per card to analyze what the card does, if I want to read the text I will take a book, I want to play cards! - opponent's turns last indefinitely - this was already said in the video, I will only add from myself that it is incredibly frustrating for a new player if all i have to do is look at the screen and wait - too much going on - it's actually a combination of the above examples, as a newbie I see the opponent throwing dozens of cards in one turn while I will put max 3 in a turn, I don't know what's going on, I don't know what that card is doing, opponent's cards are jumping then to the hand then to the graveyard, I can't keep up with the action and what's worse I have no idea what to do and how to react to it or predict what's going to happen OMG... I enjoy watching others play it, but for me YGO is unplayable despite sincere intentions.

Nowadays, Komoney made it suck by nerfing it's effects! And I also can't La Jinn pass anymore because some dumb anime neckbeard waifu maid deck was like "LOL I summon a big dragon now somehow without tributing and swap my 500 attack monster out" and beat over it when I attacked it first! Now I will admit that my luck is complete garbo and I've been stuck in gold since (playing mostly galaxy photon). The thing I can't stand is slow play and I wish we could convert materials to a higher value. I've got plenty of rare, now let me turn it into SR and UR.

Only thing I disagree with is the idea that people can’t complain when their ideal deck/hero/character is unviable. Yes, games have metas that shift but you but you can’t blame someone for disliking the meta. My favorite deck is Red Eyes but it kinda sucks. Meanwhile Blue Eyes got jet which makes it way better. Obviously, I’ve switched my deck and mainly run Madolche , but that doesn’t mean I’m not upset that pure Red Eyes isn’t good.

Hey! I started playing Master Duel on release without knowing ANYTHING about YuGiOh and it was and still is pretty fun I always believed because of the community that the game was hard and not begginer friendly but in reality is very simple to start tbh. I started playing trikstars because my friend knew how to build the deck but i didn't like it that much, but in the same packs i pulled a lot of the Marincess cards and that deck just clicked.

I think the problem is that back in the day people would play with friends locally, when they were children where they not only didn't know what meta decks were, but also didn't have the money to make fantastic decks, so it was just "make a deck you think is fun" and play for fun, cant do that nowadays. also playing against solitaire is genuinely not fun.

I agree with that guy who said there are some Meta Deck players in lower ranks. I know a few that loses on purpose when they would rank up just to never leave low ranks to kick some noobs in the d. Due to a trip, i stayed 3 months or so without being able to play last year and derank to Bronze or something. I joke you not, When i came back to play Mid October, i saw a lot more Branded Despia climbing up to Gold than in Gold itself (Yeah, on Plat and Diamond had a lot more, but that's what i was expecting, not on baby ranks). Edit: Also, i completelly disagree with that guy who said "only meta decks can be played". I got D5 playing only fucking Danger! Kaiju and Dogmatika Ritual. You only need to know and have staples to play against Meta Decks. It's a little hard to counter everything without BO3 format, but it's possible to climb with any somewhat playable deck. ALSO 2, this game is very Free to play. I started MD with Heroes. I only spend the 1000-ish Bundle gems packs once, just because i wanted to support the game and never again since. I can get D1 with that deck EASILY, only adding (as i mentioned previously) Staples to have a better match-up against Meta Decks (Well... i Add DPE, but that's the only REALLY added card to my initials). And i would say, i know players that can achieve similar features, of playing the same non-meta decks they started with, and climb to D1. In 9 months of playing, i have 6 decks (more, if you count F2P decks like Pacifis or Yosenjus), almost all staples and 9k gems saved. For only 12 bucks spend. That's F2P friendly IMO.

It's hilarious that people give the game itself a bad rating because they got a bad impression from the player community. Also, these people have no idea what Pay2Win means lmao. Komoney be doing Komoney things, but absolutely nothing is locked behind a paywall. My experience with YGO before Master Duel was mostly through the anime as a kid, casual collecting and through video games. Then I stumbled across folks like Hardleg, Cimo, and Duellogs much later on in life. Aside from watching these channels among others, the most up to date game we had to play was Legacy of the Duelist, which quickly became outdated. I had some prior knowledge and casual experience going into Master Duel, but it did not prepare me to be thrown in headfirst against the likes of Drytron Herald, IDS, Adamancipator, and Zoo Tri Brigade. My first deck was Cyber Dragon blind second, I bashed my head against the wall, learned a lot of things the hard way, and here I am now, still playing casually a year later. MD could improve on a lot, but it is much more visually appealing than LOTD, effects and chains are easier than ever to follow, you can acquire any card you want as long as you continue to play the game, and duel rooms allow for fun play or community events. By no means perfect, but MD is pretty neat if you ask me.

@@ChaosSwissroIl Consistency is what determines a deck power, not how many broken staples it runs. Rogue decks are generally named as such because they tend to lack the consistency of their higher tiered peers. It doesn't matter how many copies of Accesscode you run in Summoned Skull beatdown, it won't become a broken deck solely because of that. Additionally, generic staples are made generic with the express purpose of being splashed into a multitude of strategies, rogue decks included. Without that power, they just wouldn't be able to contend with high tier decks at all, so I don't see where's the problem with that - this has been a staple of the game since the very beginning. And yes, a majority of rogue decks are generally tiered meta decks from older metas, and? They're not meta _currently,_ which is the point these people don't seem to understand or just ignore outright.
@TWLSpark
@TWLSpark Год назад
@@ChaosSwissroIl Yes, this is what you generally refer to as "powercrept". Stuff that has been broken before doesn't magically disappear (unless banlists/erratas says so, in this particular case), but is balanced or outpaced by a much more broken alternative. This is also a thing that has existed since forever, and people have learned to live with it, because that's just the natural progression of a game with a single format like Yu-Gi-Oh. Again, this is the reason why powerful staple cards have been a thing for the entirety of the game: For Konami, it earns them more money; for high tier decks, it gives them more fuel to win more; for low tier and rogue decks, it allows them to live on even after being powercrept by the new broken archetype. Edit: Also, you seem to be ignoring that not every rogue deck in the history of the game has been a proper, tiered meta deck, but I guess that's not of importance to you.

I've been venturing into other card games and it's nowhere near as bad. Yes there is ofc a meta. But depending on the power gap or even just the support for casual modes and alternate formats there's always a way to have fun with random shit. We already invested time into Yu-Gi-Oh bcs we love it's gameplay at core so we are very biased. But we should never dismiss the reviews of potential new players

I think I understand the guy from @0:40 The thing about the mentality about the player base is kinda true, when winning seems to be more important than having fun playing. What do I mean by that? Say for example you’re playing a very good deck, and your opponent starts with plays that are obviously starter deck level. You don’t need to go all out against such players, as completely overwhelming them is what discourages most from enjoying the game. Losing can be fun if you can learn from it.

While I agree trying to get into Yu-Gi-Oh can be overwhelming, I tried one of the online simulators during the pandemic with my irl sacred beasts deck and got completely demolished and stopped playing after 2 games, but master duel does a pretty good job of introducing the game + low level ranked is 90% beginner's. But, if you're playing a 'for fun' deck past silver you should expect what's coming, people don't have time to sit through opponents testing decks, if you don't know your own decks limits that's kind of on you tbh.

I started playing again when Master Duel came out, my only experience before was Power of Chaos: Yugi's Destiny. I think the game has a cheap feeling and Konami could definitely do better, but I also know that they're not interested in doing that because it's not pachinko. Thing is, I have tried the other simulators, none of them are as smooth and streamlined of an experience, even though the game is extremely frustrating because of the silly bug and BO1, I keep playing because it's just, like, easy to play, the banlist is dogshit and BO1 is frustrating even if it had a banlist optimized for it, but I feel if just one more to do with the game was cumbersome or annoying to deal with I just wouldn't play it. I think it's an okay product that could be great, but it's good enough for now. The game is definitely at it's best on Gold, that's where you'll find the funny silly stuff, the lower ranks are all bots or secondary accounts running perfectly optimized meta decks, Platinum is either terrible players playing meta or good players playing absolute garbage, but it's still annoying, not worth ranking up beyond that if you just wanna have fun.

I could'nt give the game a 10/10 as they are missing a lot of cards which sucks and probably won't release some cards like Illusion of Chaos. They want to help other decks and i get that for sure. It just feels like some decks are just missing cards. I like the crafting but they have a problem with choosing what cards should be SR and UR and what cards should be normal or rare. They have made some crappy cards URs like someone is even going to waste dust on those cards. I been playing F2P since that game came out to see how well a person playing F2P can do. If you do all of the solo modes stuff you can get a good amount of gems even if you are new right now. Do the solo mode and get all of the gems and just spend them on the packs you want to spend them on. Do all of the events as best as you can. Do complain even if you lose. Sometimes you will win. Overall it is a 8/10. If it had all of the cards they was missing then this would be a 10/10 especially if they fix the cards that don't need to be a UR.

Master Duel is not good, and the meta and the players is the least of its problems: -There are way too few events spread over a way too long time. You can reduce the ammount of rewards to have more events take place and keep the game fresh and with new things to do constantly. -Not enough PvE. The only way to play against AI is in solo mode, which is about 60% not actually playing as is, and that is the only incentive to play besides ranked, which can be quickly draining. This results in people playing a lot less of the game . -Certain cards that are legal are simply not fit for a best of 1. Obviously there is maxx C, rhongonymiad, and literally every floodgate under the sun (I love bagooska, it should nit be in a best of 1 format). These cards can be dealt with in a best of 3 with a side deck, but in a best of 1 they simply ruin the game experience. Power level is irrelevant here, if you can't enjoy the game because at every turn you run face first into something that stops you from playing, the game will not survive for long. You could also argue for vertain other cards, like nib or electrumyte, but since they haven't been a major issue with them so far, I'll reserve judgement on cards like those. -No competitive environment. In Duel Links, winning the KC cup and the WCQ preliminaries at the higest rank gets you an invitation for bigger tournaments. In Master Duel, getting the highest rank gets you.... absolutely nothing. There is literally no reason to play the "competitive tournament" the game has. Unironically, MBT's Master Series might be the best thing to happen to this game. AND LET ME REMIND YOU THAT KONAMI INTENDED FOR MASTER DUEL TO BE AN E-SPORT. *HOW ARE YOU GONNA MAKE AN E-SPORT WITH NO COMPETITIVE SCENE KONAMI?! RANKED DOESN'T WORK FOR A COMPETITIVE SCENE. IT'S NOT EVEN AN ELO, IT'S JUST A BARE BONES LADDER CLIMB WHERE ANYTHING THAT CAN WIN AT LEAST 51% OF THE TIME MAKES IT TO THE TOP. WHAT ARE THE PLAYERS SUPPOSED TO BE EVALUATED ON, VIBES?!* I could keep going, but these are the major issues that make the game legitimately not good. Duel Link did really get it right from the start, didn't it?
