This video took me to The Warning rabbit-hole and now The Warning has a new fan :p On a different note, I've always liked Los Tigres del Norte in a kind-of-ironic way: I'm not a die-hard fan, but they have some songs that I find funny or amusing, and I've always admired how much music they've been producing since the 50s. But I never paid too much atention to the bass. But after watching this video, now I notice it and they have some pretty good baselines. Nothing too complicated, but deffinitely good.
Shout out to Abraham Laboriel! The most underrated bass player yet one of the most successful in history. Responsible for many techniques many use today including the double dumb slap, and his very acoustic way of speaking through the bass. He’s mainly known for his recordings with integrity music but hes recorded with Quincy Jones and his old band “Koinonia”.
After all those decades, his solo on 'Valentine' from the 1983 Koinonia album 'More Than a Feelin'' is still in my personal top 10 list of bass solos...
I'm a mexican old fan of your channel, and part of the warning army, this video is one of the best things i culd ask for! Thanks David!!! Viva Mexico, viva italia! Viva the warning! ⚡⚡⚡
@@zeusapollo8688yes and custom designed by her with their artisans when she was 14yo, i believe, and she received it finally at age 15. Unusual body wood and the finish is actually named “Ale’s Inferno” (her nickname is Ale (AH-leh)), and you can get any custom Spector in that finish now. She was their youngest signature artist and first Latin American artist
I noticed there is some confusion around this, that bass isn't her signature model bass, it only has her signature finish called "Ale's Inferno". It's an NS5-XL model that is custom tailored, she worked together with Spector for customization, the finish is one of the things, there's other stuff like the materials used, redwood at the back to make it lighter, custom inlays with the band logo, etc. You can see that on Digital Tour Bus - Gear Masters episode with her, Dany and Pau also did theirs. There is an actual signature model bass, but that was limited production given away to some fans at meets & greets, and it's a 4-string bass inspired by the custom 5-string one.
an absolute delight to see you hearing El cascabel guitarrón in action!! guitarrón is such a wonderful instrument! the fretless part of a classic bass, but with the style of an acoustic instrument! Absolutely honoring and wonderful exposure of our music!
Right now the tololoche is making a comeback. It's the smaller Spanish cousin of the English double bass and uses thick nylon strings and slaps SO HARD. Fuerza Regida has one.
Pinche Davie! I did not know that Italianos had such great sense of humor! Really great video. I came because of Ale, which she is one of the best. The others impressed me also. BTW, loved the new song you composed. Slap you later!

Yo no conozco otra bajista Mexicana.
came here cause I'm a huge fan of The Warning and left with a very heart warming feeling after discovering so many incredible bassist from my bello México. That man Abraham Laboriel is an absolute BEAST. Like Slapped
Just learned that Abe Laboriel's son, Abe Laboriel, Jr., is Sir Paul McCartney's drummer since 2002. In other words, the bassist's son is a drummer for the former Beatles and Wings bassist! What's even better is that Davie is clearly watching a performance that features both the father and son together!
Glad to see this post is so high on the comment list. Junior has played with _"everyone"_ ! Eric Clapton, Lady GaGa, Fiona Apple, Steve Winwood, Kelly Clarkson, and so many more. He's one of the most dependable concert drummers working today. His dad's pretty good too. (That's a joke). Great to see them on stage together. 🥁🤘
Tiago Andree hits my personal taste best: just love to listen his playing ❤ Due to being fan of the bands Robert Trujillo played for, I am glad he made it to the video despite being American: his presence on stage ranges from being the teamplayer in the background to extreme dominant and powerful tank. Thanks for adding hin too.
@@fearnoevil65 she’s 19 and still learning. Give her a few years to grow musically and mature. Her bass playing has come a long way since she was a little girl at 9 years old.
@@fearnoevil65 sounds good in the context of the song, if you think it’s boring just go listen to Thundercat. Doesn’t need to be crazy complex to be good
Pablo González Sarre is awesome. Love seeing him play his beautiful Fodera basses, including his Fodera Imperial bass, ‘Betty’. Fun seeing him teach Ale Villarreal to play slap bass on ‘Betty’ when she was still a little girl of around 9 years old.
Ale began her lessons by learning funk and jazz when the bass was bigger than her. While she was playing Paco and jazz legends before the age of 12, she’s now known for her groove.
I'm also "Mexicanian" and I loved the video. Great sense of humor. Looking by the hue of the image, it looks like you didn't leave Mexico, perhaps wanted to eat some tacos? Yeah although we'd love to call Rob Trujillo "Mexicanian", I have to be realistic and say he's "Americanian" ;-) Born and raised in California, although his grandfather (I think) was "Mexicanian". He can't speak Spanish, which you could hear in the Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria concert in Mexico City. But love him too. Ale from The Warning, well I love The Warning. Great to see the other, great players. Abraham Laboriel is the brother of Johnny Laboriel, also very famous in Mexico. Thanks for the video!
Saludos!
I'm glad you approved Ale Villareal from the Warning. I got to meet the sister's last year and I've seen him play a couple of times Ali's Unstoppable!!

¡Hola Davide! I came back to watch this video, because ... Ale ..., after The Warning released the 'Keep Me Fed' album. Dude!!! That album is so incredibly good! 🤯 Those young mujeres mexicanas are growing, developing so fast, and getting so very, very good, i am very, very impressed. If you haven't heard it yet, get the album, and listen to Ale's playing on 'Six Feet Deep', 'Sharks', 'Burnout'... Incrível! (Not to mention Pau's drumming on '¿Que Mas Quieres?' and 'Hell You Call a Dream' 😲) But, honestly, _every single song_ on that album is great. 'Automatic Sun'... O.M.G. 🤘
Thank you very much Dave. It's a great honor to be in one of you're videos of BASS! Hope next time i don't play Mario Bros 🤦🏻. Grazie mille "Viva Italia"
Fantastic seeing all those amazing Mexican bassists. Awesome including Ale Villarreal of cool, high energy rock band The Warning. You could also include Pablo González Sarre of Los Claxons in your list - an incredible rock and jazz bassist, and a long time bass teacher/mentor of Ale Villarreal and The Warning. 🔥⚡️🤘
Alejandra's The Warning basslines are always very restrained, she's got quite a bit of headroom. There's a video floating around of her playing the Jaco Pastorius version of Donna Lee when she was but a wee lass.
@@philliphutcheson4219She was a freakin' kid - far from perfect obviously Mr Obvious. How about you post a video of you doing the same thing at her age . . . oh that's right, you can't.
you should've looked into the way the tololoche, a Mexican variant of an upright bass, is being used in the corridos tumbados genre (Peso Pluma). Specially the slapping technique they are using. The genre is low-key filled with incredibly talented instrumentalists that are casually bringing highly technical execution to very mainstream music. It's as if rap was being led behind the scenes by jazz drummers, it's that crazy, I swear.
Tololoche players are crazy skilled. That seems to be the way with folk musicians all around the world really and some of them use very limited instrument (two strings and one is a drone ... but then they play some hugely complicated lick.

I love your proof of Ale slapping with a single perfect thumb attack lolol, awesome. When she was like 11 years old she was slapping classic funk grooves full on, in videos, as well as playing jazz lead lines, but she went the rock direction.
I clicked on this video to see the brunette beauty from The Warning. Must say though, that Tiago Amdree was my favorite. Bad ass sound he had going, now im going to look for some of his video's. Thanks.
ALEJANDRA VILLARREAL México. Me encanta su música ( ESCUCHA Hell you call a dream EN VIVO) SU presencia....EN VIVO SUENA COMO UN TRUENO.
You must to listen "Molotov" his bassists Micky Huidobro and Paco Ayala are amazing. Specially in the song "Que no te haga bobo Jacobo" is a very good bass line and bass battle
OMG, OMG!! beautiful Alejandra Villarreal from "The Warning" My fav!!! I am a big big fan of The Warning and I approve this video. Although, not enough time to cover Ale extraordinary talent in my opinion, still love the video. 😍😍😍
No, no, no! Alejandra Villareal must Not be STOPPED!! The Warning are one of the BEST bands I've heard in a very long time! I want more Music from them for many, many more years! SLAP!!!
When THE WARNING⚡️ARMY⚡️learns you've featured Ale in this episode of Davie504, this video gonna 💥💥💥 ... check out their latest release, Hell You Call A Dream ... the bass line and especially tone are on 🔥🔥🔥
From the Molotov band, the 2 bassists Micky Huidobro and Paco Ayala are the best in their style and original for being 2 bassists in a group from 1995, and the Barrera Brothers, jazz players or B4, excellent music also from the pianist Abraham Barrera. Greetings from Mexico.
She's a wonderful bassist I love her and The Warning. Been following her since she could barely lift up the bass, and she only gets better. Sky's the limit for her. On a side note, you're really missing out on MISA from Band-Maid (currently my fav active bassist); this lady picks and slaps and pops seamlessly, and plays finger style when the song needs it.
Abraham Laboriel inspired me as a kid and made me looove live music/music. He played bass for Ron Kenoly, who was founded as a gospel musician/singer in our church in the Bay Area, but man, that bass solo in “Ancient of Days” was a huge influence on me.
Im so f exited I cant belive its Alejandra Villarreal on the thumbnail of a Davie video, ther are one of my favorite bands, even my profile pic its with them, she is not only a great bassist but also a great human, super humble and charismatic, as Dany and Pau, glad to see them getting the recognition they deserve. Also: Love the Dany's short in the recommended videos lol 6:37
Alejandra Villarreal, is a better bassist than she seems, I have seen her slapping on a 6-string bass, when she was only 10 years old, while practicing with her teacher Pablo Gonzalez.
Yes. Her context is she is tight with and accompanies her 2 sisters on their respective instruments. That's her chosen purpose and style of playing because that's why she is playing. So we judge her and her two sisters as a tight unit of three outstanding musicians that includes a bass player.
Alejandra is very popular because her and her sisters are not just pretty girls, they can play music like nobody's business. She's been rocking since she was like 5 or 6 I believe.
