At the Darksteel pre-release, I had an opponent play an Eater of Days on turn 4. This was a little kid, like 8 years old, and he was so excited to play the awesome creature he opened. I untapped and cast Shatter on it. In doing so, I also shattered his hopes and dreams. He was dead before his next turn.
eater of days is better than wood elemental because it has a niche with the beamtown bullies. If you can put eater of days into ur graveyard with discard or something, the beamtown bullies can give it to an opponent and make them skip 2 turns
Just thought of the best use for wood elemental. If your guaranteed the win and just need 1 attacker; just play wood elemental and sack all your lands. Haha losing to a massive wood elemental sounds like an embarrassing way to go out.
I feel like cosmic horror and sky swallower is a great combo as long as you use dark ritual to summon it and down actually have 3 swamps to gift your opponent. But honestly even that is pretty garbage.
What if your opponent's deck revolves around "Elish Norn, Mother of Machines"? Then You could play eater of days after Elish norn resolves and your etb trigger will be nullified! Lol
I disagree with cosmic horror being necessarily worse than wood elemental, I could imagine being happy to run that as a top end in a draft deck where it just wipes out my opponents board, by forcing them to chump. Like its not good, but I can see a position where I'd be happy to play it.
Mass sac and reanimate eater of days with a teferi's protection or one ring effect and make your opponents draw their whole deck. They cant really do anything to you most of the time, wins you the game. Though there are easier ways of doing that.
Obviously all cards are awful but I think wood elemental is just worse in every way. The other cards at least have a ceiling (ie they're huge creatures and if your opp has NOTHING they win on the spot) Wood elemental has no ceiling basically. Also I have a modern deck that uses Eater of Days lol, it's a torpor orb tribal.
These are not worse than wood elemental. They're puzzle cards, ie cards with devastating downsides that can be beneficial if you can somehow dodge them or force them onto the opponent. Phyrexian Dreadnought is another example of this, and it sees legacy play. Wood Elemental can't be played around like that. It's just a creature from back when creatures were generally bad.
Hear me out. Cosmic horror would go crazy in a rowne deck where you loop reanimating it and killing every turn to start you out at 7 damage for the turn.
All 3 of this cards are miles better than wood elemental. The problem with wood elemental is its not just bad but there is no situation where it's good or even playable. You can follow up cosmic horror with rite of consumption, not the best use of 8 man's but better than wood elemental. Sky swallower and eater of days are both good with topor orb. Also sky swallower + delusions of grandeur + any enchantment removal can be a wincon.
@@shappah221 Oh it still sucks, but when the bar is just making it better than Wood Elemental, I could see throwing it into some sort of pseudo-group hug commander deck where you're just looking for the opportunity to have your villain arch.
