I loved the look of The Ridge. The marketing really got to me and I wanted to buy it. I was too smart to make that decision and I did not desire it THAT much to buy it though. I looked up alternatives and found this video. Now, I'm planning to make a purchase of one of the products mentioned here. Thank you! This video was really helpful, your personality made it all the while of watching, the content was really helpful, and presented perfectly.
Thank you! I have a ridge for last few years and love it. My son got his DL and needs a wallet, the ridge would be perfect...until I saw the current prices. I threw up a Hail Mary and did a google search for ridge alternative and your video showed up. I'm going with the Rossm as it a ridge clone at a 1/3 of the price or less. Great video and links.
Aviator - with the thumb slot u can slide down one card at a time after u had all of the cards pulled with the pull tab .. 👍🏼 allowing u to check which one u need . Unless u have 12 cards there should be pretty fast + if u are a little organized u will with time memorize which card goes where in the pile of the cards . So u can slide down 2 cards if u need to use the third for example
I think the only wallet missing that would be comparable here is the Code 118 which is much like the Ekster but only $30. Great and very informative review!!
I've been living in a cave, I guess, because I just found out about these minimalist wallets. Glad I found your channel. I like the Ekster because of the switch to push the cards out. I like the Aviator, too, because I like to carry guitar picks around, and the extra tray would be nice. I like the look of the Rossm, too. Tough decision! I love your presentation style, quick and to the point without a lot of talk. Subscribed.
i'm surprised you don't have more subs / viewers, so i sent this to my brother, my dad, my wife, and my best friend. Good luck on growing your channel!
Love your production style. Watched a second time just for the entertainment value. Glad to find this before dropping coin on ridge. Stay focused my friend.
Fantastic review man👍, all the information I need, and so clear and easy to understand. I have liked and followed and even saved! Keep up the great work, and I will definitely be watching your utube channel again 👍😃
Great video. Noticed you didn’t mention if it block RF signals or is that common because of the material? Wish I would have seen this video before, but I admit the Ridge wallet marketing got me, was mentioning it and my wife got it for me for Father’s Day and I really enjoy it. With all of these it takes some getting used to.
"Don't know why you would want to carry that many".....well there are other items that are the same size as a credit card that these wallets would be useful for. In my case, the company I work for uses something called a "Common Access Card" which are used to authenticate to the network. Many are required for different levels of access. I have more than 15 that I have to keep track of and have been looking for something that would make that easier.
I love the ridge design, I won't lie. Where I live there is a local company that made a rip off version, very high quality, for about a quarter of the price. I have used it since i bought it.
You Remind same Of My Anatomy Professor In Med School… He Didn’t Waste Time On Minutia Either.. lol I Wish I’d Seen This Vid Before Buying The Ridge. However, I Am Satisfied With My Ridge…..
Very useful info. I bought a ridgevwalker early in and really liked it. I decided recently to get another one and was very surprised at how expensive they’ve become. Guess they have to pay for that market saturation somehow. Anyways, great info and thank you!
Thanks for the reviews. The sandwich style seems like it could be annoying having to sort through the cards for the one you want. I've gotten a thinner Zitahli leather folding type and just learned that I no longer need to carry as much as I thought.
I used a 7 dollar ridge knockoff from ebay for while but the metal made my keys dig into my skin. I bought a Dango M1 and been using it for about a year now.
Great video, although I’ll stick with my Ridge. I’ve got a couple of Forged Carbon wallets and I’m waiting on a 3rd one made out of Damascus Steel. I live the durability and if the elastic gets worn you can buy a replacement for £7. It comes with a screwdriver, spare screws and the last one I got came with the additional money clip. There’s also an optional money tray but I won’t be needing that.
Thanks, watched 3 times and checked out the links. Ended up asking my daughter to get the following for Father's day: Fidelo Minimalist in black Crazy Horse.
I watched this one month ago, immediately ordered the Fidelo. I also ordered the Nimalist before I watched this video, surprisingly the Nimalist did show up at my door but I wouldn't trade the Fidelo for anything if any of the others are like the Nimalist. I will be giving the two Nimalist wallets I have as gifts for Christmas. FIDELO is amazing, honestly!
I really liked the look of the Ridge forged ember model but it's 175 euros... Rossm has an exact same looking model for 30. That's some brand extra right there.
I'm rocking the Ekser Parliament. I've had it for 2 months I like it but it's already rapidly showing wear and the leather is really thin. I don't think I'll ever find a wallet as good as the Andar Pilot. It lasted me 3 years and survived being ran over on a busy street multiple times. Ok hope they bring them back
Sorry to hear that. In my personal experience, the customer support at Ekster has been very responsive and accommodating. You might bring this issue up with them. support.ekster.com/contact/contact-us. And yes, Andar prides itself in its high-quality leather. I'm not sure if all their leather is veg tanned, but it sure smells like it--hmmm hmmm good.
Sadly, I've been looking for a slimmer wallet. Mine looks like that phone book that George Castanza uses in the sitcom Seinfeld. When I first saw/heard about the Edge a few years ago I was excited, but these things seem little more than card holders with money clips. And, I get it, they are stylish and they probably work pretty well for those looking for card holder/money clip combos, but there's a reason why wallets exist. Hmm, I guess I'll stick with my large, leather phone book for now.
You might consider a hybrid solution. Use a minimalist wallet for the few cards you use frequently and keep your old wallet in your car for the stuff you rarely touch. That’s what I do, anyway.
The one thing that ridge can do is stop cheating out on the cash strap and upgrade their straps to a strong silicone strap rather than the cheaper cloth material like Ekster does for their carbon fiber card holder
Ridge had to make it over priced because they knew there was gonna be alternatives to it coming out real quickly. I was able to pick up the Rossm for $15
I have the rossm wallet, works completely fine prob the same as the ridge lol. Payed 25 instead of 90 tho 😂. Who would even buy the ridge anymore with all the alternatives that are way cheaper
Can you rate these wallets from your favorite to least favorite? Thank you looking to buy but not sure if I should go all in with ridge or just get a cheaper option please help!!
Unfortunately, no. The outside dimensions of the Ridge are the same size as a credit card. Business cards will fit under the metal money clip but not the cash strap.
You could probably shake them out. They’re designed to keep the cards from falling out, but only in typical usage situations. Or rap one edge on a rigid surface like you would dislodge a root bound plant from a pot.
@@WalletSurfer Or not buy a simplicity focused wallet with a mechanical feature that can actually break unlike the two plates on the others. It's definitely not always all about function because the wallets with the most function are the normal leather ones. This is not the main point of the ridge and clone's wallet designs.
The lifetime warranty doesn't cover wear and tear? So if it's all scraped up after 2 years, I have to spend another 125? No way. Hard pass. I'll definitely get one of these other and cheaper ones.
Two years ago, I paid $120 for Ridge, and USPS never delivered it to me. After hours of waiting on the phone line, I gave up trying to contact USPS. When I sent an email to Ridge, they simply didn't care. Then I bought the cheapest one on Amazon and I'm still happy with it. AVOID RIDGE!
Sorry for your bad experience. Personally, I've only had good experiences with Ridge in terms of service. And I think they make a great wallet. My only beef is the astronomical prices they charge for them.
@@WalletSurfer Thanks for your reply. You are right, but when you pay an astronomical price, you expect better treatment if something goes wrong. At least better than "f... off, we've got your money and we don't care anymore". I paid the astronomical price to Ridge, then Ridge saved by paying the lowest possible price to USPS and denied any responsibility for transport issues. Don't you see something wrong here?
@@hepgeoff I ordered 6 different models from various producers, in range $8-15, just to test them. And all of them are perfect and I gave some of them to my friends as presents. I've tried to list them here, but every time RU-vid deletes my message automatically, as it looks like the junk ad.
Every youtuber goes on the hate train by mentioning that the warranty of Ridge does not cover the wear and tear of the wallet… wtf… it’s warranty, not assurance… 😅
I don't mind paying $30 for the RossM instead of $130 for the Ridge. People who have bought the Ridge will always try to defend the price with "Oh well it has a lifetime warranty". Please tell me what is going to fail on your two pieces of aluminium? The lifetime warranty is a scam that is just used as a selling point for gullible customers. The warranty doesn't even cover the band which is the only thing I can see failing. The RossM also comes with a spare band in the box as well as both the cash strap and the cash clip. You dont have to pay extra for the clip like you do with Ridge.
Thumbs up. I got my Rossm wallet today. I mean they advertised the money strap. ..when I got it, it had both the money clip as well as a strap. Extra screws, screwdriver....and all this for $24. Delivered. Same exact thing. The Ridge is obviously made in China. The same damn factory made both. You can't tell me otherwise.
There are plenty of many other videos comparing the Ridge Wallet with its alternatives. They all say they 'look' very similar, but it's the little details and ease of usability where the differences show and the Ridge beats them all. Agreed, the ridge is expensive, but If you buy one with the intent of never wanting to buy another wallet for the foreseeable future, then 99.9% of customers say it's well worth the purchase. For all my items, I like to pay a higher price for something only "1 time" rather than end up spending the same money over time buying replacements when they fall apart. Btw, you totally are hating on The Ridge. You're just doing it in a more passive, sarcastic fashion. 😂 I quote: "The folks at the Ridge have done a bang-up job turning a couple pieces of metal into a must-have accessory. It's just masterful marketing. And they charge you a king's ransom for the 'privilege' of carrying one." It takes more than just marketing for success. You have to ACTUALLY deliver a good product to your customers. The better your product is, the price becomes increasingly less of an issue to consumers.
Hey Adam, thanks for your take on this. I just had a discussion with my wife about your comment and she reminded me that I’m missing the point about designer clothing and accessories. Whether it’s a Ridge wallet or a Burberry jacket, no one buys it solely because of the superior materials, old-world craftsmanship, or outstanding design. They buy it because of the way it makes them feel. I can’t argue with that.
@@WalletSurfer There is that "designer" appeal. But I would add that such a status is earned, and not just given. And that is a difficult status to obtain, let alone maintain. I'm not saying it's "only" because of a quality product, but I am saying it's a necessary part. One of the primary ways to spot a fake Rolex is that their watches are completely FLAWLESS. One minor defect and they yank it off the assembly line. It's not just the little gold crown on the watch face that people pay for (even though they still do that), quality must still be present. And no, I'm not calling the Ridge the "Rolex of wallets." 😂 This was an illustration of my point.
Ridge we don't cover wear and tear... just a lifetime manufacturer warranty on defects of 2 prices of metal that are defective proof! So basically no warranty at all
@@WalletSurfer Well I've not seen anyone mention anything about it prematurely failing. If it did fail (which I suspect wouldn't be until after many years of use) you can just buy a replacement.
When something litterally does the same job but for 100$ cheaper you'd really have to do some serious mental gymnastics to justify getting a ridge wallet absolute scam of a company Rossm sell's the wallet for what its worth.
Ray has been using the AKEENI wallet for over a year ... and he loves it! One piece, not two ... no trouble with harming cards ... extra place for cash and business cards ... about the same price as Ridge BUT IT IS MADE IN U.S.A.!! We need to get away from our dependence on foreign goods (especially Chinese). Before you buy your next wallet ... BUY AMERICAN!
@@WalletSurfer if there was a correction made to the initial comment, it is that some credit cards are starting to delaminate. Still have to give it an "A", maybe an "A-".
It's like wearing a seat belt that is connected to the car with wooden bolts. A design fail. Plastic band holding the carbon plates together will die in a few years, even sooner if you sweat a lot into your pants or shirt. Sweat kills everything. It even killed my fav leather belt in 6-7 years. The part of the leather exposed to sweat turned into a cork-like material that breaks into half when you bend it.
The Rossm wallet throws in an extra elastic band and a screw driver to replace it. And since it’s made from aluminum or carbon fiber, leather degradation isn’t an issue. Should last a you a while.
I yust cudent believe that people buying card holder for 150$ or € and that has different name 15ares ago business card holder , not a walet ,it has not room for bills ,for change ok only thing is card many times you need cash, change exe. And price for sandwich aluminium is crazy simple . But man who developed Ridge is unbelievable smart person. Marketing is eating 40% of profit but 2ares so agresiw marketing that price is so hig to pay and advertise cos wolet fully developed cost feu $
It is the same with all these company's selling t-shirts and underwear and even socks at really stupid high prices. There are much cheaper solutions for all of them.
