@@KitbashedSurvival That's what I was thinking after watching another channel out of the UK and feeling kind of "lost and disgusted" after putting my heart into the products he presented. Along you come and I feel perfectly at home. :)
Bobber stop allows a bobber to slide freely up and down the line for easier casting and also allow fishing at a specific depth. To use, feed your line through the metal loop and place rearward (bite of your fishing line), hold the bite and slide the bobber stop off the metal loop and onto your loop of line, eventually going past the bite and ending on just the single strand of line. Adjust for depth by sliding the bobber stop up or down your line with the appropriate rigging tied on below the stopper. Handy little things.
I bought the deluxe about a year or two ago its a great fishing kit I added a fishing yoyo and some artificial crickets , this and vigilant trails are the ones I found the best!! Good luck!
Wow! This was a pleasant surprise. Just seeing the thumbnail I was skeptical but those kits seem to be very high quality. One can debate the utility of fishing in a survival situation but if you're gonna have it the gear might was well be good. The first thing I noticed is that the designer seems to actually know about fishing! I'd like to see a couple more swivel snaps but the addition of a few steel leaders is very smart. And lots of hooks, and a wide variety of them! And it's awesome that the designer understands that you're not gonna do much fishing with ten feet of line; it gets kinked up, abraded and it breaks so kudos for having large spools. I would have to mirror your comments, there's not much to criticize. And the price is pretty nice as well.
If you have done everything else on your shelter, signals, and water needs, then fishing gives you something to do and helps you stay put in one area until found.
As a non-fisherman, I would certainly have cut the costs on the hooks - seems to my eye like one could have easily have gotten away with a smaller, targeted variety - so that generous selection is really impressive to me! That generous amount of line is also a very nice touch, and the bait REALLY goes above and beyond what seems to be typical for low-end survival kits.
A nice kit. I brought mine from another company no longer in business but added a few of my own items, mainly more variety of lures. Most kits fail in the line department, so it is lovely to see two spools in this kit. If you want to build your own, keep an eye on the Walmart fishing area as they often have items selling at over half off on clearance. Don't wait for the off season, our local Walmart's a nice selection of hooks and lures on clearance. Tip: do up your hooks and lines now at home. I was putting 4 of those split tail grub on hooks they came with today and it was so easy to come out the side. In the stress of survival, you don't want to risk fish hooking yourself.
WOW!!!!! These look absolutely awesome and extremely well thought out!!!!! I'm totally with standing behind good small companies trying to make honest products that just work!!!!!
Nice to see you upload. I always dig the way you go over gear. The best part is how you upgrade most kits and explain why you'd do it that way for yourself. 🤙🏽
The black stoppers can also be used as bait stops, if fishing a worm, nightcrawler or any real bait put one above the hook to keep the bait from sliding up the hooklength.
I love the fishing kit videos. Thanks for posting. For a survival fishing kit, these are probably the best I’ve seen besides some experienced angler putting together some stuff for someone. Cheers
Ok so I have a nice piece of wood and I have placed 3 eye hole screws along its length (maybe top middle bottom?), how would you recommend I then apply the line, sir?
@@mikejay9838 So, you screw the eye hole screws in a straight long stick that you can find on the ground, if ya have a knife you trim it up some, then you screw them in the stick and feed the line through the holes...or you can just Tom Sawyer it and tie the line to the end of the stick lol!
I'm not a fisherman, but these did look like nice, complete, compact little kits! Since these seem to be nice, complete kits with everything but a fishing pole, I think the only thing I could think of to add, which would add negligible weight, space, and cost, would be something I saw once in a different survival kit: a half-dozen screw "eyes" and two screw L-hooks, which can be screwed into a length of sturdy branch to make a rudimentary fishing rod (the L-hooks would be placed down near the "handle" of the pole to wrap line around as a "reel".) For more weight and space, it seems like one of those round "yo-yo" reels would pair up very nicely with one of these kits. I've also seen pocket "pen-style" collapsible fishing poles: they seem a bit chintzy to me and I'm not sure how well they hold up, but they don't cost much and ought to at least hold up to some light-duty emergency fishing as a stuff-it-in-a-survival-pack-and-forget-about-it partner to these fishing kits (someone ought to do a torture-test of one of these collapsible fishing poles sometime to find out whether they're worth it?) Well, maybe ONE other thing I'd like to see packaged in these little survival fishing kits more often, as a non-fisherman: I'd LOVE to see cards included with some basic how-to instructions, preferably on unfolded waterproof cards: common knots, when to use certain types of bait, and that sort of thing. It's a little thing, and it wouldn't impress experienced fishermen, but for those of us who haven't been fishing in 30 years and didn't really get detailed instructions as a kid, some tips and instructions in a survival situation would help a LOT!
Seems like a very well put together kit. Would of liked to have seen the weighted jig in the small kit with maybe a few more swivels, even if it needed to be a slightly smaller jig.
Those are great little fishing kits. It surprises people how much it would cost to build a small fishing kit with some decent quality items. Keep a hand line setup in a vehicle & one of those kits in your pack & get out & hike.
Pretty good kit. For "ME" I use only braided fishing line in both kits and my regular fishing gear. Mono is just too easy to turn into a rats nest, and you'll spend more time trying to untangle your line, than actually fishing. Another thing for "ME" is a tiny ziplock bag with 10 or 12 Berkley Powerbait Crappie Nibbles. Now I always have REAL bait that works. Lastly, what all kits should have glued to the inside lid, is a small card showing how to tie a proper fishing knot or two. Keep up the great work.
I have that Beetle multi tool for work... People don't ask what it is, as knives are not allowed at my employment. LoL. "Oh that? That's my beetle keychain."
Nice kits. Well put together. I don't doubt that those tins are watertight either, but I think as part of your reviews and tests of kits you should hold things under water to see how warertight or waterproof/resistant some things claim to be.
The one thing I notice missing from all these fishing kits is instructions. Not just for what things are but general fishing info. I have a fishing kit in my bug out, but I've only ever gone fishing twice in my life. Other survival kits put info that you'd probably never use (like solar stills). Or info that is just wrong, like the stick in the ground for accurate direction. But I've never seen a survival fishing kit with instructions.
That's me too bro, but I have seen too many videos that shows how easy it is. I feel I just need just a tad of guidance about some key issues and I will be fully squared away. :)
I don't actually fish but this looks pretty good. Speaking of fire bellows, I have a collapsible straw that resembles the bellows but is shorter. Do you think it would work as a fire aid? I've never used a fire bellows.
One thing that should be stressed is that the fish you catch needs to be fairly large and substantial for it to give you more calories than you spend. Catching a large amount of small fish does very little for you. However, I do consider fishing gear to be very important as it is mentally healing and helps the survivor get off negative emotions. With that being said, I am no fishing expert, and I have only fished in a few specific environments.
Survival situation? Set lines and walk away. I always carry 120-150 feet of bank line, usually #18 in my fishing/trapping kit. I'd set out 6-10 lines then go start working on traps& snares. While working on traps and snares id try to forage.
Me personally I would not use 30 or 15lb line I would go for 4-8 because in a survival situation you are probably catching more panfish and trout but overall great kit
have a question could you review the Amazon Coleman All Purpose Mini First Aid Kit 27 pieces? made yes by Coleman,, looking for a mini first aid kit for my sling shoulder EDC carry, not for a Medkit or a Bugout bag , price is like 4 bucks sorry like 9 bucks
Is this Rule the Wasteland the same as the RU-vid channel? Ive watched a handful of his vids but some focus too much on how bad things might get in order to simply sell fear. But i do quite like some of his more down to earth videos
The larger hooks may not be good for small fish out of a small stream or body of water. The larger hooks would be good, I think, if you know that there are larger fish to catch. Otherwise, they both look like great little kits.
I make my own fishing kits that being said if I had the extra money I’d buy one just to have one if I do get some extra money I’m gonna get one just because they’re cool
That kits is not very compact and a bunch of those hooks are way big, also two many artificial baits, we are going to be in the woods so grasshoppers, crickets, bug, worms, lizzards, ect., and wire leader? are we bringing a rod and reel and or a boat, lol.........split shots, small gold hooks, and a bobber but twigs and small sticks work well, in a survival situation spider wire over mono
Probably great but due to a Childhood trauma I DONT DO FISH 😈 Also if you have 30# test line why would you want/need 15# test line? Again, I don’t do fish do forget me if this is a stupid question.
