Wyoming (Rock Springs) we have seen two tornadoes touched down I think 5 or 7 yrs ago. I don't remember. One was near my daughter's home luckily it lasted for a few seconds. Some say it wasn't even close to F1. My daughter's phone died when she wanted to take a Pic of it so she could share it with me. She knows how much I love tornadoes.
having grown up in florida, this actually surprised me. I have maybe only heard of 2 tornadoes in that entire time. Of course, I did grow up on the gulf coast...
I also live in Indianapolis and agreed that tornadoes are uncommon here, but I had a few tornado incidents in my area, the ones that always stuck to me was when I got home from school, and the sirens went off for a tornado that touched down 10 minutes away from me, luckily it only destroyed a farm and went away, probably a scarier incident was when a tornado was trying to form right in my backyard, but thankfully it stopped forming.
I'm from IL, and same thing here, but best to remain cautious. We get terribly scattered days when we do get Severe storms. As a fact, the last time we had severe storms (Several months ago) were indeed rotating. I usually keep an eye on severe weather, as I used to be a Storm Spotter.
I have heard the comparison using Tornadoes per square mile and it changes the outcome a little bit. I would like to see your take on Tornadoes per square mile. I am surprised that Maryland is higher than some of the other states on the list.
I read that mile-for-mile, like you're doing, the UK actually gets more tornadoes than the US! 3 cities I wouldn't live in, 'cause they're tornado magnets: Moore, OK; Joplin, MO; Tuscaloosa, AL Having immediate family from MS, and having lived there twice myself, I knew it'd be number one.
