yeah me too. the thing with tiktok is since the videos are shorter, it becomes harder for creators to fill in as much information and detail about drawing or colors or whatever it is they're discussing in the tutorial in that short of time so the videos appear surface level, but they still are packed with information for the most part. it's a love and hate relationship for me really.

i think i've learned alot from both speedpainting tutorials and really detailed ones, but preferably i enjoy listening to an artist's mindset and approach to making images while they paint, that way you can learn their process and the reasoning behind the technique.

I prefer watching actual speedpaints rather than those "tutorial" speedpaints you're talking about haha. When I'm watching a speedpaint, it's specifically to see how a specific artist draws/paints a certain way, so I can dissect their style and techniques entirely on my own. I've always found that these newer "art tutorials" are full of great advice... for how to get worse, and even stagnant. 😂 Then I see a bunch of suckers in the comments like "OMG this is sooo helpful thank u!!!" and then they go back to drawing in their poorly-imitated Steven Universe art styles, lol..

I've said this before lol when finding tutorials, most artists think speed drawing/painting helps beginner artists and it doesn't. I need a full blown 4hrs+ video with details or else I just give up. I don't even mind paying

Or sometimes it misses the point of why something is stylised a certain way. Yes, having the pupil on the edge of the eye isn't realistic, but in a cartoony art style, it helps with emoting and showing where the characters are looking.

I remember when there was a do and dont going around showing how to draw a realistic wolf compared (do) vs a cartoony furry style wolf (don't) like... I dont think anyone believes real wolfs have giant anime eyes and neon multicolored fur

The difference is when you do it knowingly. Hairy lines from lack of confidence are obvious if you view it from a place of experience, but adding mess to lines has intent to it and tends to look eons better simply because of the knowledge behind it
