7:36 Looks like someone forgot that there are three sides to the Cubic archetype it has a stall side (Cubic Seeds), burn side (Cubic Kings) and OTK side (Cubic Beasts). Dark Cubic Deity is the combination of those: stalling by being unaffected by monster affects, burn damage from the Cubic Kings, and multi-attack from the Cubic Beasts.

I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere in the twitter thread but shoutout to the Fur Hire field spell. Skipping your draw phase to just add a Fur Hire monster and also being able to just nuke the board if you have five or more fur hire monsters which in theory is extremely easy, but there's so much wrong with the card. You have to send the field spell to the graveyard to clear the board, clearing the board stops your opponent from taking battle damage, and on top of that you have to DRAW THE FIELD SPELL cause the field spell does not have "fur hire" in it's name. Fandora, Fur Hire Flying Furtress is too long but we can have Training Fur Hire, Fur All Your Training Needs.

I'm still salty at how they made Verte Anaconda - the archetype's best spell locks you into fusions, but every other deck ever can abuse it.

Earthbound Immortal Cusillu's battle protection effect is a carry over from the anime. See, in the anime Earthbound Immortals do not destroy themselves when there is no field spell. Instead, they lose their effect that lets them attack directly and lose their E that prevents them from being attacked. So Cusillu could avoid being destroyed by battle when the field spell was down.

Vendreads all have antisynergy with themselves. All the ritual spells are crazy and let you use monsters from your graveyard, deck, etc. for rituals. The effect monsters give the ritual monsters bonus effects when they are used as tributes, BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE TRIBUTED ON THE FIELD.

From my understanding of effect text: If an Armed Dragon Thunder's effects are negated for whatever reason, its name should be Armed Dragon Thunder on the field since the name change text is not in parenthesis and therefore isn't a constant. Would THAT let you pull out a ADT with the same name?

I’m a bit of a Nordic apologist. I won’t for a second try to convince anyone that the deck is GOOD, but it is FUN. Something I realized while labbing the deck is that Tyr, Fenrir, and Jormungardr along with Lights form the backbone of an alternate win condition. Again, it’s NOT good, but it exists: During your Main Phase 2, while you control any Aesir synchro, you can Special Summon Fenrir and Jormungardr to your opponent’s field. How these two work is: They both die without an Aesir on the field. Fenrir, at the start of the Battle Phase, forces all of its controller’s monsters in Defense position to change to Attack Position, AND both players take battle damage from battles involving it. Jormungardr, if it’s changed from face-up Defense position to Attack position, burns its controller for 3000. So here’s where the Tyr and Lights combo comes in. Tyr can protect other Nordics from being attacked, and dies if there aren’t any other Nordic monsters on the field. This isn’t a problem if your opponent controls Fenrir or Jormungardr, since THEY are named Nordics. The other part of this is Lights, which prevents Nordic on the field from being destroyed by battle. So what you do, and not all at once but over a few turns, is: Make your own Aesir Synchro monster and lower your opponent’s LP as much as you can. Then, summon Fenrir (in Attack position) or Fenrir and Jormungardr (in Defense position) to your opponent’s field. If your opponent turns Jormungardr to Attack during their Main Phase or they enter their Battle Phase while they still control Fenrir, they’ll get burned for 3000, and any battle damage they inflict with Fenrir will be dealt back to them. If they wise up, but don’t have a way to get rid of those two (much easier today than it was back when these cards were released, I know), then you can summon Tyr (or any Nordic) and attack into Fenrir yourself to reverse-OTK your opponent. Under Lights, all Nordics can’t be destroyed by battle, so if it is Tyr, you have an invincible wall that’s inflicting 2000 damage to both players every turn. Would you play this “combo” in a normal Nordic deck? No, absolutely not. But you could play a deck specifically designed to make this “reverse OTK” work, if you wanted to. So yeah, Lights ISN’T “Nordic” support: it’s “Tyr-Fenrir-Jormungardr-reverse OTK” support.

Literally the beetrooper fusion released in burst of destiny. Its counterproductive to the decks strategy of being a link climbing mid-range deck that can resource loop with strong toolbox by giving them a card that allows your opponent to SUPER POLY YOUR BOARD!! Plus, it's an "end of battle phase" effect that seems pointless when, if you are summoning a 4K body - the opponent should be dead by the time it can trigger. The second wave generally made me super triggered.

I love that when BA was released on Duel Links, they only gave us Malacoda for a payoff. The ideal opener in the strategy in konamis eyes was open: BA, BA, Good and evil, malacoda. Ritual summon malacoda and just pass with no cards in hand.

Shout out to Mellow Madonna, an amazing scale 0 that can search any Abyss Actor from the deck and locks you into only Abyss Actor PENDULUM MONSTERS, meaning that if you use Madonna's effect first you can't even summon any of the 2 Links afterwards, just amazing

Fun fact about Spygal Misty. She was actually played in Zoodiac Spyral pre-MACR as her alongside Resort, Agent, and Tough were a level 4 engine that helped you deal with your worst matchup being Paleo. Misty being unsearchable obviously still sucked but her effect was good enough that you just played her anyway.

Metaphys executioner sort of fits the bill here. Its summoning condition is banishing 5 metaphys cards from your field or *GRAVEYARD* with different names. Which is counter intuitive to how the deck wants to be played, under Marco. So in the best case scenario you can't even summon their boss monster without going -5. Although the deck will recoup most of this with some of their banished effects.

you know, my favorite part about starving venom, is that in the anime yuri summon it one time using ultra poly, and brought back the materials to make clear wing, the synchro, however due to rulings in the tcg, if you make starving venom with ultra poly, you cannot bring back the materials because the materials used to make starving venom only count while they are on the field.

I want to give shoutouts to the Synchro retrain of Summoned Skull, Archfiend's Call. It floats into a Summoned Skull from your GY, which would be awesome if it wasn't a level 6 and therefore CANNOT BE SYNCHRO SUMMONED WITH SUMMONED SKULL.

Destruction Sword Memories can summon Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster from the deck. The trap says that it can summon from the deck "Buster Blader" monsters. Key term here "monsters". If it was just "Buster Blader", then Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster could not be summoned.

As someone who constantly played ghostricks before links came out, nekomusume was one of the better cards i ran during the rank 4 spam era. I've had countless game won because my opponent couldn't use his normal summon to go into some rank 4 to break my board, you usually have a ghostrick xyz face up because they dont have the flip face down effect and if you get ghostrick nights on the field they literally couldnt do anything. Not to mention its one of the few ghostricks level 2s you had at the time if you wanted to summon socuteboss. Also a lot of the trap cards would flip your cards up during your opponents turn so the negative of having to have the card face up doesn't really apply because you were going to have to flip it up regardless.

I think a decent thread would be Archtype cards that were expensive because it was new support and the Archtype was meta relevant, but the card was mediocre. This is specific to when Archetypes were often released across 2 (usually 3) main sets. I'm thinking cards like Mermail Abyssleed or Inzektor Exa-Stag. Have to think of a few more examples.

In the DSOD movie the character that plays cubics named Aigami uses the cubic stall strategy to burn and lock the opponent out of the game, however at the end of the movie Aigami becomes possesed by the evil spirit inside the millenium ring and turns into a monster that now changes his duel strategy to a hyper aggresive one creating Crimson Nova as well as the fusion crimson nova trinity, so Crimson nova feels like an outsider to its archetype's playstyle...because it's meant to.

Also Prologue GY effect only protect Destruction Sword cards in a deck where your end board is just Buster Dragon and fusion Buster Blader....2 monsters who are not Destruction Sword cards by name. It can protect the link... but you rather that die than have it sitting on the field being a target to OTK through

Shoutout to 'Centrefrog'. A frog that cannot be used to xyz summon is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Not to mention the weird ojama shit where it can lock out opponent monster zones (?). I just have no idea why it exists, and that sucks, because it's a really cool looking frog

Junk connector was printed when you couldn't summon extra deck monsters to Maine monster songs without a link arrow pointing to them. Although I wish that speeder read "for the rest of the turn after you activate this ability you can only Synchro summon.". But I guess it would be a little too good with a Link and Synchro Synchron strategy for Konami.

The metalfoes is well designed. It’s 9 so you are motivated to use its self summoning effect which isn’t even bad

Shoutouts to Guardian Eatos, who does not have anti-synergy with Guardians because they were never meant to synergize with themselves, but there is no synergy with her equip spell Celestial Sword - Eatos. Eatos can send a equip spell that was equipped to her to banish up to 3 monsters to on grave to gain Atk. Celestial Sword has the effect that, when it is send to grave, it gives the monster that was equipped to it more Atk for each banish monster. The catch? The effect of the spell is a "When" and not "If" Which means that Eatos cannot send her Sword to gain more atk by her effect and her Sword's effect because the sword will miss the timing. The one time Guardians get a decent monster that can actually use the specific equip spell just to not synergize at all, despite that it should. Gotta love game mechanics.

vanisher is like one of the best one ofs in metalfoes while it would be better at level 7 or less, everything else about it is amazing.

Genuinely, for the first time ever I left a stream out of pure rage. MBT saying the predaplant archetype doesn't synergize with Starving Venom is one of the worst takes of all time. Not only do they possess a way to search super poly, they have one built into the archetype and if your opponent has a monster with a predator counter (that makes it dark) . Plus multiple ways to give cards predator counters is SOMEHOW not good in the archetype. But Starving Venemy dragon that requires 3 dark pendulum monsters was released at a time when predaplant had 1 pendulum monster that was unplayable. And makes Venemy counters that lowers the attack of EVERYTHING that isn't a dark dragon exactly is better in the deck. Now I'm upset again. Swing and a miss on this one Joseph

Shout outs to Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning. Archfiend of Lighting is supposed to be used to fusion summon Archfiend Black Skull Dragon but for some reason Black Skull specifically states it needs a Archfiend Normal monster and Gemini's don't count as normal monsters in the deck. so the only way you can summon Black Skull Dragon with Red-Eyes Fusion is to use Vanilla Summon Skull.

Unironically all the channeler in Charmer. A deck that typically likes playing multi-attributes with a main deck of monsters of every attribute has now locked it's self into a single attribute.

The Buster Blader stuff does actually work, swordmaster has buster blader in the name and memories wants a buster blader monster

Cards with Ice Counters are a good example. It's bad and forgotten by everyone, I know. But you get Snowman Creator and Ice Master, one put Ice counter on the opponent's monsters when summoned and can pop a card. The other can put Ice counters and tribute itself to pop all cards with Ice counters. But you also get Snowdust Dragon, which can be Summoned by removing 4 Ice Counters on the field and prevents attacks and changing battle position, which just puts a 2800 beater on the field and prevents attacks... When you could just pop cards. In an era where Xyz and Synchro were already a thing, mind you, so just stunning ressources is not good. But then you get Snow Dragon, who puts Tokens on EVERYONE when it dies by battle. So when it dies, you also fuck your own monsters. And then you get the last 2 monsters: Snowdust Giant and Cold Enchanter, whom both benefits from YOUR monsters having Ice Counters. One because he gains 300 ATK for each Ice counter, the other one because your opponent's monsters lose 200 for each Ice counter. But even still, one creates Ice Token by revealing the cards in your hand, meaning the more cards you have the better. And the other one needs you to discard your own cards, so even those two cards who seems to have an okay synergy just shoot at each other's legs.

Friendly reminder that while you have Buster Dragon on field, Alvaz can fuse with your opponent's whole field for Alba-Lenatus

Another example is machina metalcruncher's summoning condition requiring no face-up cards combined with the fact there are 2 mediocre machina continuous spells.

I feel like Junk Connector should be given a bit of a break. It was printed during the time of MR4 pre 4/20 revision. It was basically good arrows for junk monsters.

Red-eyes The whole thing Shout out to Lord of the Red being basically entirely unsearchable by Black Metal Dragon

Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon is Blue-Eyes support that lets you reborn your normal dragons during your standby phase, including Dragon Spirit of White since it's a normal monster in the GY. It also applies a lingering effect to itself and all other dragons on your field when summoned that prevents targeting and destroying them for the current turn and the next, which makes it really good to summon off Spirit Dragon. The problem? It's not named "Blue-Eyes" so it doesn't benefit from the support and requires a normal non-tuner to legit synchro summon, which means you can only synchro summon it in a Blue-Eyes deck using the vanilla BEWD.

Nadir's Servant is literally the bane of my whole existence unless I'm playing Dogmatika.

Swordsoul Auspice Chunjun is not very good in Swordsoul but it’s a funny handtrap in Lair of Darkness

My candidate is the quick-play spell Strike of the Monarchs. To Tribute Summon a Monarch is difficult enough to tribute it in order to activate the effect of this card. Yes, you get a negate, you draw a card and you can banish it from the GY to change the attribute of your monsters (nobody cares about this effect) but you loose the monster that would had kept in effect Domain of the Monarch and Monarchs Erupt, for example.

Metalfoes Vanisher has so much synergy with Metalfoes. Destroy Parametalfoes Melcaster and Raremetalfoes Bismugear with Vanisher's effect and you proc Bismugear's search, bring Bismugear back into your hand using Melcaster's effect, and you have fusion materials for Parametalfoes Fusion or even regular Metalfoes Fusion. Summon Vanisher using Metalfoes Counter and you can banish a monster in your opponent's field or GY. If you activate Counter after a monster you control is destroyed by battle then your opponent can't activate Ash or most negates. Summon Vanisher using Metalfoes Mithrilium's floating effect and you can banish too, with the same "protection" against negates if it happens in the damage step. Vanisher has sooooo much synergy with Metalfoes that I can't imagine playing Metalfoes without it.

The only real reason you'd use Arc Light in Herald is to send with Diviner, get search and get perfect level for Herald of Perfection.

Nekomusume is meant to be paired with Ghostrick Night which also requires a face up Ghostrick on the field, although it would be 100% better if it worked on all monsters instead of just level 4 and higher. So have Nekomusume and Angel Of Mischief on your board remain face up and you still have 3 spots on the field for other possible face down Ghostricks.

Can't forget the worst offender being naturia, they have several cards that proc WHEN sent to the GY... except MOST NATURIA SEND AS COST!

Simorgh Bird of Perfection causing the other simorghs to miss timing if activated chain link 2 or higher, which okay you can't use it to chainblock here. BUT under OCG SECOG you can't have it be chain link 1 if you want to activate the on summon effect of the winged beast that triggered Perfection.

2:22 - Metalfoes Vanisher isn't very fair, because literally the only thing counting against it is the inability to Pendulum Summon it and while that bites it's still way more playable than most of the others on this list.

Aroma Jar is a flip monster that can't be destroyed by battle and gets 500 LP at the end phase... But it's a goddamn rock on a plant deck, and Blessed winds can't put it back online cause neither can be shuffled back from gy to deck since it's a rock, or be revived cause both effects works if it was flipped Shout-out to Tindangles who can put back (any, literally any other is better) Jar

Galaxy Satellite Dragon was designed as Tachyon support specifically (You can tell by the art, which looks similar to Tachyon dragon and the effect which boosts attack based on that monsters number, Tachyon is number 107 which gives it a boost of 10,700) which utilises lots of dragons (like Galactic Spiral Dragon and Nebula Dragon) it wasn't actually meant as Photon support, in the deck it's actually meant to be used in it's pretty good, it's just that the Tachyon deck is awful.

Cards for black feathers would be an awesome blackwing card...except they put a special summon restriction on it.

madolche is off meta deck, rogue, but i always wondered.. their main point are XYZ monsters which need to set up GY to use their other effects - and then there is bunch of trap cards which are really hard to resolve, because you set up GY for madolche tiramisu or sistart

I tried finding a way to bring my archetype into this, but as it turns out, Mayakashi only has anti-synergy with MOST OTHER ARCHETYPES and not itself. Closest I found was Ghost Meets Girl - A Mayakashi's Manuscript, which lets you Special a Zombie with the same attribute as a Zombie Synchro you control from GY or Banished... in an archetype that has extremely variable attributes. At least it's probably good in Shiranui or something.

I'm a bit sad my take wasn't included, I really thought "Freki the Runick Fangs" - although not printed yet - is a good card to include on the list.

Re: Thunder Armed Dragon: It exists because targeting a lv7, summoning the OG Lv7, and tributing it for OG lv10 is stronger than anything Thunder Lv10 will ever do in its entire life. I keep harping on this, but it's true; Thunder Lv10 is one of the worst bosses ever printed, while OG Lv10, while certainly not great, is a dragon that discards other dragons, thus making it synergize with the other ADTs.

Well at least Starving Venom is easy to bring out with your opponent’s cards in Predaplants. If you don’t place a counter on a card then you can use Starving Venom. Not every card needs a counter. You can also place the counter on it after you summon Starving Venom.

So hear me out Nekomusume is actually a pretty good floodgate and it works well with ghostrick night which also requires a face up ghostrick but I will never understand why they would give doll a mandatory flip all your monsters face down during the END PHASE! so you cant even flip one of them back up before the end phase and ruining whatever lock you might have had with night and Nekomusume.

This video is actually a very good study case about how yugioh have NO IDEA what the f theyre doing with card designs. Some of these are actually just shocking

Malacoda is actual able to activate the effects of the Burning Abyss monsters at quick effect speed while weakening your opponent’s monsters. It may not be powerful due to it’s summoning condition but it is still somewhat decent.

Weird idea but what about doing a tournament with fixed cards? Stuff like the fabled cards that send now discard. I don't think there's much to this idea but we as a community are so starved for original ideas that this might make for a good video.

Something that is so funny to me about salamangreat is that one of their best monsters printed, salamangreat almiraj, is completely useless for their game plan. In salamangreat why would you ever use almiraj when balelynx is right there

At first Bismugear was the only effect monster scale and was meant to be off level because of that, so vanisher being 9 was logic Bu they also printed melcaster, which is a effect monster but also a 7 so it doesn't make sence Luckyly the cards still works very well with the rest of the archetype and doesn't clash at all

"Red-Eyes Fusion" ... not only is this card ridiculously broken... it's also... ridiculously broken. This card: can not be activated if you have summoned ANYTHING that turn, is vulnerable to ash-blossom unless the cards you need are in your hand and, to top it all off, if the EFFECT is negated, the card's extraneous effect of preventing any and all summons BY YOU for that turn... remains in effect. Don't get me wrong, there are some absolutely broken red-eyes cards, but the fact that a single card can cripple your entire deck if ANYTHING goes wrong with it...yeah. Blue-eyes both has better boss monsters AND its cards don't cripple you XD Kaiba really hates that card.

2 be fair for galaxy satellite dragon, there are galaxy cards that either can't be played in galaxy photon decks or don't help either, tomahawk can't be played either because it is rank 7, and galaxy photon focuses on rank 4 and 8, with exceptions for 9 due to xyz shenanigans

Not an archetype, but Wind Effigy is notorious among the double tribute monsters (monsters that are treated as two tributes for a tribute summon), for being one for WIND Normal monsters... but with NO WIND NORMAL MONSTERS THAT CAN USE IT. They literally had to print an effect monster with an effect that says "this is treated as a Normal Monster in hand", because of it.

Since I don’t see anyone else defending it, I’ll say it now: Ghostrick Nekomusume is anti-synergy with its archetype because it’s pro-synergy with Angel of Mischief specifically. Namely because having 1 face up card turns off a lot of the stun tools that Nekomusume covers for Now, is that a good idea even remotely? No. But at least someone read part of the archetype

I always laugh at the Buster Blader part because the deck has problems, but he doesn’t fully touch on them.

Id like to say that you can use nekomusume with the link and go round or something similar. Its still bad, but not useless now

Spygal and Charming Resort Staff make me sad. Same with Utility Wire and that other one but at least the former has some…utility. They could have been literally anything else. Spyral was already broken, it’s not like they needed anything amazing. It just simply needed to not suck. Spyral is still ridiculously good in 2022, especially considering their age, but they still don’t have any one-card combos unless I’m just not thinking of something. If they had one more Super Agent-esque card I feel like they would be a solid Tier 1.5. I would suck a dick for a Spyral name that discards for cost to special summon itself or an in-archetype card in the same vein as World Wand or the Phantom Knights cards or something like that. I’m terrible at theorizing about what archetypes need to be good. The deck just feels way too reliant on resolving Magicians’ Souls in order to work.

Cubics Aka Crimson Nova.dek with a bunch of garnets to summon a box with eyes that can OTK and burn everyone for 3K

I play a lot of the dragon ball super tcg and the legacy support for so many decks can’t be played in those decks. It baffles me how often it happened.
