Hugh Masekela's son Selema Masekela consequently said that his father would never give you an easy answer or make you feel you will get a free pass. He never gave in on easy interviews aimed at subduing interviewees to provide a sort of generic answers to the interviewer or viewers/audience. He was very substantial and loaded with experience. He was a scholar in every sense. A scholar who identifies with struggles of a human being. He was a socio economist and a preserver of African culture and identity. He was truly an African Jazz pioneer. A true African! RIP Bra Hugh Masekela. Your legacy was established the day you began to blow the trumpet and the day your began to create awareness of African oneness!

@fishdawn1804 I had the priviledge to attend several of his concerts, to meet him and to get him to sign my CD's book (his autobiography), I found him to be quite crabby, except for the last concert I attended (2010). As my luck should have it, he was in an expansive mood, whereas I was feeling crabby. He always gave good interview, but this one is in a class of its own, I'm left to wonder why he was in such a good mood.

I am so saddened by the loss of our African culture and heritage. Very few people take time to research and see where most things we as the world know started and that is in Africa. We dismiss and belittle our own and desire the life of our oppressors,we are so poor in that regard. These cultures will never see you as their "equal",they have no concept that on this earth their are no races but one human race and that's it!!!!

man I feel you, I have been to churches where pastors refer to african cultures as satanic and cursed smh! sometimes I wish we were still colonized.
