If you listen very carefully at 4:22 and again at 4:36 they sing "all we are saying is give peace a chance." A little nod to John Lennon (as is "instant karma" in the earlier line "Send an instant karma to me").
yes!- very subtle but once you realize they're referencing Lennon, Wow! Very cool. 'Give Peace A Chance' came out in '69 and 'The Yes Album' was released in '71- glad that they felt a need to carry on the message!
I love to be reminded how much I love a song I haven’t heard in too long! Many thanks, Anne, for this (one of my favorites), and to Harri, for thoroughly enjoying this reaction 🎉
From the 1971 album, "The Yes Album", this 7 minutes magical trip is in two parts, Your Move followed by All Good People. The introduction grabs your attention with a 3 part harmony, with cappella intro starting the brilliance. The lyrics, with such enjoyable vocals, describe using chess moves as how to navigate relationships, with the rockin guitar riffs, pounding drums and your favourire Hammond organ ending this religious experience. Hallelujah 💎💎 The whole album is mind blowing. You've been to church Handsome Harri.❤❤ Fabulous pick Anne. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
The singer is Jon Anderson. He's 80 this year and still has his voice. His latest band "Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks" just released a new album a few weeks ago.
I still cant fathom that this music is over FIFTY years old already. Where does the time go? I've been listening to this album for over 45 years. That's just so crazy!
In 1971-72 I saw Yes in Dallas. They were the opening band for Jethro Tull and they were amazing! Still have the original The Yes album with this song. Tull was great, as always back then
I saw both bands separately, many years after that. I was 2 in 1971, and my mom wouldn't let me go to the concert. It turned into a big fight. I remember I threw a fit, because she had let my 3 year old brother go see Led Zeppelin only a few months earlier. But seriously, Yes twice, JT once. Ian Anderson is quite the showman. He'd play the flute one place, spotlight would go off, then he'd appear somewhere else in the rafters or down the aisle really fast.
I saw the same tour in okc so it was days from the show you saw. In OKC- when Steve Howe played his guitar solo The Clap , there is a riff taken from Classical Gas and instead of going back to the Clap , Steve finished the Classical Gas song. Now this is in OKC where Mason Williams, who wrote Classical Gas is from and Jon Anderson said it was the first time Steve had played that version. The crowd went crazy!🎼🎶🎼🤠
That’s Prog rock They are the masters ❤️🎶🎹🎸 Jon Anderson voice Chris Squire bass and backing vocals Steve Howe guitar backing vocals Tony Kaye - keys Bill Bruford - drums
Gorgeous song. Timeless classic, band virtually in a category all their own. Hardly recognize you, Harri, but if you feel better, good for you; sometimes a change is just what the doctor ordered. Healing yourself? So much the better. 😊❤
HIGH Harri. New look, Same voice and accent. I've had the great pleasure of seeing this incredible group Live 4 times over 4 decades. Always an amazing performance Each member is magnificent at their instrument, Jon Anderson's voice is a very special instrument..
Hello Hari, love the new hairdo. The lead singer of yes is j o n Anderson, I have seen them twice live, and they sound just like their albums. They are an amazing band! One of a kind! Love your reactions, keep them up, thank you
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Harri. When I saw them last month, it was the song I was looking forward to the most and they didn't disappoint. The one thing missing was Jon Anderson's vocals, but the new singer did a good job of it. Steve Howe was the highlight on guitar. Thanks for the reaction!
It is so much fun live, the whole audience gets up and sings and claps along, very high energy and compliments the other songs they do. Saw Jon do it live a few days ago with The Band Geeks, he's 80 and still sounds great, go see them live before the tour ends soon.
Yes freak here! First concert I ever went to in the early '70s. The crowd I hung with didn't call it progressive, but we called it art rock. One of my favorite albums is Chris Squires solo album Fish Out Of Water! ✌️❤️🤟🥁
You should see Yes the next time they play near you!!! I just saw them (with Deep Purple) in Virginia last week and they are one of the best concerts musically that I have ever experienced. Both bands will amaze you if you see and hear them live. I couldn't believe how much music we got for $42!
Progressive rock at its best. YES is a phenomenal band. Do yourself a favor, Harri, whether on your channel or on your own time, and listen to the full YES albums Close To The Edge, Fragile, and The Yes Album.
Anne, this is a fabulous submission from one of the genuinely great albums of the early 1970s. Personally, I have played the entire album more times than I can remember. "I've Seen All Good People" is a terrific and integral song from their historic album, Yes. A quality subwoofer brings out the incredible bass notes and a house rattling on their performance. Sorry, I just took a trip back to living at my parent's house that final year. This is deserving of a full 5 Lava Lamps!!! Bravo to both you and Harri for this one.
The Lennon reference is interesting because when drummer Bill Bruford left, he was replaced by Alan White who had played on all the classic Lennon songs
I never could quite tell what this song is about. But it doesn't matter. It's so good that it takes you on the happy train. Fantastic. Loved your reaction.
Totally agree, Harry. I only marginally know the band Yes, but this track infused my soul on first listen in the early 70s, and I’ve loved it ever since. Masterpiece.
Just noticed you and subscribed as you are playing Yes the greatest band that has graced this planet with the unique inimitable voice of Jon Anderson the voice of Yes.
The best Progressive Rock Band. Really a Super Group of musical talent. Many great songs: Starship Trooper I’ve Seen All Good People Yours Is No Disgrace Roundabout Southside of the Sky Fragile is one of the best Rock Albums of all-time (top 5) All we are saying……Is Give Peace A Chance…….
One of the band's methods for writing songs was members who had an idea would bring in home recorded pieces and the band would assemble a song from the parts. The songs would each have a variety of ideas.Like movements in classical music.
My wife and I just saw them last month outside of Houston opening for Deep Purple! Yes a lot of the original folks are gone now but they still put on a hell of a show! Amazing instrumentalists! Been following you for almost four years Harri! Love your channel!
Love the song, love the album, love Yes! ❤❤ this was always on at any party 🎉 🎉🎉 with hot knives, and other organics 😂 Progressive rock is my fave genre!
Steve Howe is an amazing guitarist. For some fun, listen to his solo acoustic, live piece from this same album called, "The Clap". I don't think he had clapping his hands in mind. It is funny and brilliant, if an instrumental piece can be funny (I think it can).
I recall being very impressed when I heard this LP. I was also a fan of ELP. To me they were great new bands, I had yet to find them shoved in the box of "Prog Rock". I am not a fan of the term Genre, nor of music having to have one.
Hmmm, so many other's that might supplant this -- for example, the studio versions of: Roundabout Long Distance Runaround Heart of the Sunrise Close to the Edge (the song) . . . . Regardless, you need to add the studio version of Roundabout to your repertoire -- the live version you reacted to doesn't have the audio quality/nuances totally worthy of the song.
