Story 2 has me wondering if the guy really was a cop, and the other cops were covering his ass by disappearing - or simply not writing up - the case file. Or the responding officer simply felt the incident was nothing worth bothering with. Either way, it is alarming. And we wonder why serial killers often don't get caught.
At first I thought he wasn't really a cop but the way the police responded (or lack thereof) leads me to think he was and they covered up for him. Terrifying!
I agree, with y'all. Years, ago on a hot day. I gave a lady, a ride, in my city. She told me a cop, would follow her at night. As she left work, to the bus stop. He was trying to solicit her. She wasn't even dressed provactive. As she got off, I said be careful. I couldn't believe that. But they're are, evil cops too. Ladies, carry bear/pepper spray, some kind of protection.😮💨
Had to listen to old let's read content till this dropped... Don't think I'll ever get sick of Joel's voice. This is the first channel i started following on RU-vid 4 years ago, don't know what my life would be without you and this channel!💜
This is the best channel I've found to listen to while practicing the violin. Playing a concerto while following the stories is not only possible, but each helps me concentrate on the other. Let's hear it for brains!! : D
Yeah I forgot the name, but reminded me of that cop serialkiller. He also told at least 2 of his teen victims that he gave a ride, that they shouldn’t trust strangers and take rides from people
Makes more sense he was a cop the other cop woukdnt let her see the cam footage said there was nothing on there then no case number yhst cop prolly new him and either thet cop was the son of someone or was the other cops superior or just good old fashioned cops helping cops no matter of a crime or not
I can relate. Though my “super moody” almost always comes with reason. I love the soothing tone of Joel’s voice, and I get lost in it as often as I can. He always helps me get through the most mundane tasks with ease.
@@lesliebean4594 I recently started joining in on his live's, it feels like I'm chatting with a good friend. Very therapeutic for an introvert like myself.
I do not get, with all the info about people faking being cops to kidnap people, all the stuff about serial killers and saying to never, ever get in a strangers car, why this women would get in his car. Just why the absolute hell? That got me so frustrated I wanted to explode. Someone would have to drag me kicking and screaming into their vehicle, even if there was a woman driving or in the passenger seat. Just no nononono. I think I was four years old when my mother first hammered the idea of never getting into a stranger's car into my head.
Get a strike plate for your door! It takes two kicks to kick in the door without one. They're metal, thick, and they come with six 3-in screws. You can get one online or at Walmart, Lowe's, or any other type of store. And I mean everybody if you're scared some one is going to break in your house, buy one!
Genuinely thought these were for if you're hands are full and the door is ajar for you to kick it the rest of the way open without messing up the door itself 😬
@@TurntechCalibrator No they go on the inside of the door frame where the latch is to reinforce the door frame. That way, when somebody tries to kick your door in, it takes at least 15 kicks to get it in.
@@TurntechCalibrator That's what I thought too. But I don't know what they mean by 'latch'... I've never seen a latch. I don't even see how that would work. Most people kick the door higher anyway. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. I'm gonna have to look that up. Lol.
Story 2 I hope that women broke up with her abusive boyfriend for throwing her out in the cold with no coat, car keys or phone. He, too, should have been arrested!
Love the warm fuzzy feeling of still seeing the pyramid at the beginning. Old school intro! Glad it’s still around. It must be fulfilling for Mr Read to see how far he’s come…
Never ignore your gut/instinct, whatever you want to call it. Don't ever tell yourself or let anyone else tell you that you're being paranoid and for God sake don't brush it off. That inner voice is there to keep you safe. And the more you listen to it the louder it will become. Stay safe everyone.
business in the emerald triangle is extremely shady, as a humboldt resident i can attest to many people going missing around here, especially foreigners that are promised trimming jobs on murder mountain then end up getting killed or forced into work. it’s really sad .
OMFG, these bleeding hearts who don't press charges do my head in! PRESS. CHARGES. If they later do something again, they will get a lighter sentence or no sentence because they have no history!
It’s hard to believe anything the author of the first story has to say when she continually switch back-and-forth between calling the other person and her boyfriend versus her husband every other sentence their title has changed.
2nd story: I thought the chick said the kidnapper was driving a "tall white pick up truck"? 🤔 If that's the case, why did they say the kidnapper tried to get her to go to the trunk?? Trucks don't have trunks.
...Grammar and Spelling Corrections... I love your stories they're so good, after an hour and a half, I am able to fall asleep. I have depression and insomnia that makes it difficult to get to sleep. Thank you for your frequent uploads!
At 36:20 - I’m not sure WHY the OP said she was 6 or 7 y”s/o at the beginning. I was thinking, “you had a midnight curfew at 6 or 7? I had to be in the house before the outside lights came on at 10!” I’m glad I continued to listen to hear her clear it up a bit better stating she had graduated high school. 😂
Thank you for pointing this out do I know I'm not crazy 😂 I was like wtf? Why is a six year old taking the train alone at night and getting home late with a midnight curfew. I get pretty pissed at the "super negligenlnt parents" types of stories and was full prepared for this to be a winning contender in that category 🤦
Good evening buttersocks actually feeling better today went to the gym today so that made me feel even better I got my 4 week body comp assessment next friday so I gotta go hard💪🏼😌
that second story is terrifying. I hope that person is doing better after such an awful experience. reminds me of a time I was on a school trip to cali and we went to huntington beach for the day. we hung out there til night fall and I remember needing to go to the bathroom so I went with a friend before getting on the buses. There were two dudes in their 30s who were acting really sus. When I went to the bathroom I could hear them saying some awful stuff about what they planned to do to us. We were 17. I was so scared I hid in the bathroom until they left. Thankfully the bus drivers waited for us to come back before taking everyone back to the hotel.
Story 5 really chilled me. Not only was someone angrily staring at the couple, but now there's a person (likely the same guy from before) tapping on their windows & standing outside their house...outside their daughters window taboot. I hope nothing happens to them, & it's just some creep that'll move on soon
I hope she gets therapy too. She seems to be programmed (as in by conditioned by previous life experiences) to accept or just fail to recognize abusive and downright inappropriate behavior. I mean good gracious she acted like she thought she deserved her boyfriend's treatment, didn't want to get him in trouble, and even once the guy in the truck had tricked her into getting into hiss vehicle, passed the gas station and clearly had bad intentions she was still worried about him just being a normal guy having an "off night." And then when she talked about how she'd heard of Ted Bundy and not to hitchhike but just thought it wouldn't happen to her. Just... Wtf? It's like she thinks, "that won't happen to me and if it does maybe I'm just overthinking it or I deserve it." Just very sad.
Hola Joel, I love the Let’s Read podcast, and I think you’re one of the best readers/speakers out there. It was a great surprise hearing you on Jim Harold’s Campfire today, as that is another long time favorite. Keep up the good work y gracias!
Story 2 made me so mad😭 her getting in the car with the second cop (a stranger ) and letting him take her to her friends just felt like she was setting her self up and the cop asking if she trust him and her saying “yes” ?? Is just wild to me 🤦🏾♀️
And what would you expect her to do? Decline the actual officer on duty sent by dispatch and call an Uber with another potential creepy driver? Maybe her friends couldn't come right then and there...and even if they could she didn't have her phone to call them (remember she asked the creep if she could use his phone) and maybe she didn't knew their numbers by memory to call from the gas station...we don't know all the details...her only mistake was getting in the car with that first creep.
Story 2: When she said that she didn't want to make get her abusive boyfriend in trouble with the neighbors after he put her out, you knew the rest of the story would be pure idiocy.
it's not idiocy, its the result of recurrent trauma and being in an abusive relationship. who knows what he wouldve done to her if she got neighbours involved, show some empathy
Yeah I knew it was going to be a series of trauma based bad decisions and victimization of a young woman whose been with so many abusive men she can no longer appropriately judge behavior. I groaned so many times during that story. It's very sad but at the same time very frustrating. Like a person who dates woman beater after woman beater and you just want to shake them but at the same time you have to recognize that's all they know and all they think they deserve...
“I think the people I’m house sitting for may kill me” let me blast Backstreet Boys, and run around topless to detour them. Lmao. Humans are all together ridiculous sometimes.
The one where the guy tells the girl he's a police officer? My first thought was, how have you read so many true crime stories without knowing that he is NOT police? But then signs of a cover up started... and yeah, he's a police officer. The one with the guy who said he was prisoner was actually even more creepy than the writer made it out to be. Because what if he WAS a prisoner? Who was keeping him there? Her boyfriend? A whole separate intruder? What if the detective had found a hidden room and there was someone in it? Or what if he had wandered in days earlier but was in such a state that he couldn't find his way out and thought he was being kept prisoner?
Yeah story 2 with the cop reminded me of that cop serial killer that killed young women and teens, I don’t remember his name but scary dude that used his job to make them feel safe at first
The first chick should choose either the bf or husband, maybe this dude just wanted to join in the club. The other thing… if your hing can be undone by the outside changing the locks won’t do squat. Maybe he unhinged the door, came in unlocked the door, put the pins back into the door & came back in and re-locked the door.
I feel like I’ve heard story 2 before. And since your the only narrator ive listen to in the last couple months… I’m pretty sure you’ve narrated it before.
I’ve been noticing quite a few repeats lately. I’m assuming it’s due to the lack of new, authentic sounding stories maybe? Not sure but I appreciate the content nonetheless.
I'm frustrated with story 2. Douche-bag bf, incompetent victim that made bad decisions one after the other. Glad you survived though, hope you'll exchange your meek politeness for logical thinking in the future.
