TLDR: Alch and go for early upgrades, invest into an atlas tree/scarab combo you find fun, and actually do the farm for hours. He did get a lucky headhunter card early on, but that just skipped him a few hours of alch and go expedition. Then he just did 2 weeks of ambush farming for multiple hours every day, the secret was playing the game LOL

Some stuff that got overlooked from the interview. He picked a very good, very beginner friendly build from the MASTER of that build (clear progression paths etc). It seems like he was not a hideout warrior like much of reddit is. He also seemed willing to just sell things early and often. Most of the people having money issues struggle with fomo. "If I sell items for less than market...oh no i'm not getting maximum value" Meanwhile, people making money sell for less than market instantly and get back into their mapping strategy.

@vincentiusiseus Heist is actually a very good strat if you build into it.. if you just try to run some sporadic contracts/BPs with a normal build, it'll feel like a waste of time.. but if you have a QotF pathfinder, gear your npcs, and focus farm it.. it is definitely better than every T16 farm that doesn't involve running 8 mod corrupted maps with massive amounts of map mod effect. Granted him claiming to be a noob, he would've absolutely been running it inefficiently.

This guy just basically sat down and devoted some time into researching things and actually understanding what people are doing instead of just copying something with no idea why people are doing what they do. It's not unreasonable to achieve what he did in that time frame in my opinion. He has the currency making part down, but is confused on acquiring great gear for his build, which is understandable for a new player that has never played the build before and he can only learn this by looking at the gear the top players for the build uses and getting something similar. I used to just copy builds and not understand why people made a lot of their choices, but comparing pobs side by side really helped me understand this game and I could find my own upgrades or alternative cheaper solutions instead of flat out copying someone 1:1.

He said that while doing his Atlas he got 1 mirror shard and 2 power runes plus a Doctor, I understand that people are skeptical, that's a increadibly lucky start. One of the big hurdle for new players is having gear good enough to do farm strats, and with all this drops and probably a good guide that tell him exaclty what to buy I can believe it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with players holding onto their 2 div for dear life, too afraid to invest in any strat. I think that's the most common barrier to progress. It's really important to get out of that rut where you're just running non-corrupted t16s with little to no scarabs. I started in 3.24, copied bits and pieces from other builds on poeninja, and ended up doing all the endgame farms (t17 meatsacks, div cards, etc). It's not impossible! Just do things, get rewards.
@Cosmomancer
@Cosmomancer Месяц назад
This very much speaks to my experience to be honest. I think the average long time poe player forgets how much time it took to learn even the most basic fundamentals for building and upgrading characters. I had a friend used to always play league start, complete the atlas, and then quit because he literally didn't know how to progress his character despite having a good bank of currency and would get frustrated trying to figure out which way to go. It's a really tough space to be because you don't have a massive stash of currency that would let you go straight to mirror tier final builds that so many build guides showcase, but you're still on a lot of sub 1 div gear that's holding your character back. You don't know what would be the most effective upgrade and you can't afford more than a few things and have to prioritize or somehow make smaller upgrades. Meanwhile, all your shit gear is interdependent so untangling the mess to regear is a huge endeavor. And it just feels wrong to keep doing the same mid level currency strat when you have so much money to upgrade and do a higher level strat and make more money.

Reminds me a lot of when my friend wanted to play WoW for the first time. I brought my friend into Dragonflight after essentially never actually playing it. Got him a level 90 warlock in MoP but didn't do anything with it. He really wanted to play Blood DK so he ended up tanking as his first actual experience with the game. Decided to get on my resto shaman and just drop him into a mythic dungeon without overgearing and see how he would do. He pulled a metric assload of mobs that he definitely should not have and his first response after doing just fine with them was "Who's the second healer?" I went afk for a minute and he pulled without me. He did not realize WoW only goes with 1 healer in dungeons and that he was doing all of the healing himself and essentially not needing me to hold his hand at all. He was also doing good damage. Despite the fact that he had basically never touched anything once in that game - he literally just looked at his buttons, took a few minutes to figure things out, and got the hang of it instantly. He did better than I would say 85% of the playerbase who has probably spent well over 5+ years in his 30 minutes of playing. Turns out when someone isn't a raisin brain and actually puts some effort in - they do much better much faster.

A signficant part of that was an inscribed ultimatum for mageblood (that didn't duplicate); otherwise got a few inscribed ultimatums for bad t0 uniques. And just like in this guys case, just being lucky, and with too much money, you may not be that scared to spend a portion of it on upgrading. And when you were talking about Wealthy Exile, he mentioned how he sold tattoo that he didn't know he had. I mean, from my understanding, the farming strategies are like 'passive' wealth source, and pick up loots, and evaluate your total profit with Wealthy Exile. Did these people never get lucky in PoE, a heavy RNG based game where map generation, monster types, monster rarity, crafting, all that. Basically mostly everything except passives and altas tree are the only things that are quite static?

I realized how easy it was to actually succeed in the game, and I took it so far as to even do the same thing IRL. I started a lawn mowing business this year and all it took was giving it an honest try and emulating others. I even did things like buying my advertising posts for 8.50 on etsy and I considered it the same as buying a boss carry for voidstones or whatever. Life really isn't that hard just keep making small consistent improvements and have a good attitude about it. This guy had a great attitude about the game and emulated people who were better than him, rather than making excuses like "streamer client" or "RMT dual wield credit cards" it really isn't crazy at all

Yeah for context this is the first league I was able to fully complete my void stones and get every favorite slot unlocked. Anyway Just using some basic strongbox nodes on the atlas I was able to get a bunch of duplicated valdo boxs this league which have been where I made 90% of my wealth lmao I just got insanely lucky and out of like 10 valdos boxs I found a mageblood map and a headhunter map I was able to run the mageblood map and got a 4 flask uncorrupt mageblood my first 1 ever. Entirely possible that people have wealth and are also new. Side note didnt know until I tried to run the map but it was a character gets sent to the void on death, most stressful thing I have ever done HC aint for me lol. Turned out though it was one of the eastiest T17 maps my friends have ever seen for a mageblood prize and I YOLOd it not knowing how hard it was going to be.

Making money in this game has been so easy for years. I genuinely do not understand reddit. You can just plug and play alch maps with a random atlas distribution and you will make 5 divines per hour minimum. Farm for a couple days and you can make any build you want in the whole game. Reddit is just insane and I lose brain cells when people regard divines as luxury currency over there when it hasn't been the case for over 6 years. Divines are basically just chaos at this point.
@jaym2112

The unbelievable part wasn't that he's new or had that much currency. Most folks' "new player" experience is struggling to finish campaign and learning, "oh, I need to have a build guide?" Next league you follow build guide and you struggle and learn "oh, I need to have some currency generating strategy?" Then MAYBE after 6 months, you see some success. OR you're 90% of POE players and NEVER do... Let me look at Steam achievements for POE: "Corrupt a map to have 8 mods" 8% of players have this! "Reach level 90" 7.3% of players! "Complete every map on the Atlas" 3.7% of players "CHOOSE AN ASCEDANCY" only 21% of players ffs! "REACH LEVEL 60" 18.8%!! Obviously, not everyone is playing from Steam, but ffs... Let's not act like it wouldn't be AMAZING and difficult to believe that a "new player" is in this situation. This reminds me of those videos where they have some TikTok babe describe an "average" man and she says he's 6'3" and makes $300k a year. That guy obviously exists, but statistically where does he fit in?

First time playing endgame myself this league (only got to white maps previously). I started with a archmage ice nova, took it to lvl 95 and farmed a bit, then built a slayer with shrapnel ballista (str stacker-2000 str) but got bored with the playstyle and transitioned the slayer into Lightning Strike which is lvl 99 now. Got extremely lucky with a valdo's (1/10 openings) that gave me a foiled mageblood that I'm using now since it was one of my goals for the league after I realised it would've been possible even without extreme luck. I have 115 spare raw divines, saving for a Nimis. How? I played a lot (500+ hours in 3.25), used farming strategies, watched an ungodly amount of YT videos to try to learn as much as possible, traded a lot (5 big tabs, 3 small ones almost always full of stuff on sale) which I know is inneficient but it gives me the opportunity to see what sells and what doesn't as the league progresses. Like with anything in life, if you put concentrated effort into it, you will get some positive results.

I have nfc how people cannot make currency in this PoE. They must refuse to sell stuff. Of you're solely depending on dropping divines, you're going to be a sad Panda. So much stuff drops that is worth 10c and up. For example, run Deli, have a decent loot filter. Throw all cluster jewels that are worth picking up in a 10c tab, if you get a bunch of tells on one immediately, check the price, otherwise you'll slowly sell 10-15 ever couple hours. Things like that add up. Same with regular jewels. I sell 75-100 cluster jewels and regular jewels a league like this. It's a great way to make currency early on especially. Some sruff will go for 5-10x what it will after a few weeks.

I can relate 8mod T16 with 2 ambush scarab and 1 of each(not the monsterous treasure one) other ambush scarab can net a lot. I have 190% rarity(rarity supp+gold flask) and i get divine orb cards doubled, mirror shard cards doubled, pure divs doubled from arcanist, double valdos, ambush is just neat and you dont need special knowledge just a couple chaos investment each map(around 30). As shipments u can get divines very easily in each shipment with 1M value, before patch u could send 50M shipments easily, mappers bring in divines and valdos, basicly in this league if u play u get a lot of money. I completed 40 challenges and have 3 foiled magebloods(because divs gets cheaper day by day and everything goes to standard anyway)

For a lot of these Redditards it's just jealousy, plain and simple, they play the game for like 2000 hours and still can't make more than 2-3 div/hour, they never get a Mageblood or even a HH (even in leagues when HH is 30div they still can't get one). They constantly brick their maps, they don't know what regex is, they're basically idiots, and so to them they look at themselves and think "well shit if I couldn't do it in YEARS how can this new guy do it in a few weeks?" - unfortunately some people just have difficulty learning and this makes them angry, resentful, and jealous when they encounter someone who doesn't suffer the same malady.

I’m a new player as of this league. I’ve put a lot of hours in, probably close to 300. I have a lvl 97 slayer and a lvl 93 occultist, 3 voidstones and I’ve just finished crafting a 100 div claw with the recombinator. Everything I learnt was easily accessible on YT, redditors just want to dunk on anyone they can. Big ups to this guy!

I think i commented on this thread, but i bately farmed and poofed 5 house of mirrors, 6x apothecary, 3 nimis cards and i barely farmed, just 2 hours after work, but before work i get my set of 20 or 40 maps set up with everything inlut in a spreadsheet and if the samole of 40-60 is good return i continue. Also shipment, yeah. 80% of reddit are slowpokes, doesnt matter which game they are playing. One guy in the thread was like "i do one strat for one hour and thats it" well how the fuck so you expect to earn currency, i sold 25k stacked decks this league, freacking regards.

Thankfully liquidating is super fast now because of Faustus. You cant not make money playing unless you're experimenting on hyper expensive strats and get unlucky.

I got my friend into the game during Necropolis and he end up earning 12 div/hour after 4 weeks. He fully decked out an ES-splitting steel trickster that cost hundreds of divines. Some people's new player experience have been completely different so they can't relate to his new player experience. For example when i started the game, ahem, like fucking 10 years ago in closed beta, we all used to play hardcore, didn't know shit, had basically no guides or tools to assist us. I know that the first 2 leagues i made like 3 characters, died them all off at around lvl 50-70 and then quit till the next league arrives. This whole gameplay loop of progressing the atlas, making currency, using the trade site, blasting maps with one particular currency making strategy, following guides and poeninja is all part of the new player experience now which apparently many people wrongfully think is hard to understand. If i would have read that reddit post i would have assumed rmt as well, since the progress seems faster than what you would expect from your average new player. However i have to say that i truly don't know what your average new player goes through. Maybe he's just exceptional in taking in and applying information, maybe it's actually quite normal for most new players. I have no idea.

Even assuming a relatively moderate strat of 5 Div per hour thats 54 hours of farming for 270 divines. I play moderately and have already basically stopped playing this leaguue but my lvl 98 main char has more than 80 hours played not too mention I have two more lvl 96. I am not an efficient player so many of those hours were spent doing random stuff I felt like and I dont have many divines in the bank cause they are all spent on my chars but if you played one build and focused on farming and saved up your currency (because lets face it if your build can farm what you farm why improve it?) Doing this is not hard. New player doesnt mean idiot the guy probably looked at one or two guides and started from there.

So my first time playing I quit at act 2 I was playing with friends and they just all flaked so I didn’t know enough to want to keep playing. My second time playing was legion league and I used the sacrificial chamber and got a head hunter. Every league since then has been like just hard core grinding to just get things like a 1 passive voices, mage blood cool stuff like awakened multiple projectiles and I’m hoping to get an awakened multi strike this league. It’s been a crazy almost 3 thousand hour journey all sullied by the fact that my friend played a league and got a mirror of Kalandra in act 3 his 1st time playing and kicks himself every league cause the weight of how lucky that was didn’t hit till the thousands of hours played to not even see a second one between a whole group of friends

What's so fukin funny to me is all the redditors outing themselves as being dumb and incapable. I introduced one of my friends to the game back in Harvest league, and because he was a functional adult, and not completely helpless, he managed to grind enough for a headhunter on his first league. The guy went hard into the crafting mechanic and made more bank that league than I had in the previous 2 leagues combined. None of this is rocket science. People just don't like thinking for themselves. I know this because I've been babysitting someone like that all league. It's fine to ask for help, but some people refuse to even read the main skill they're using! It's so frustrating!

Two im an alch and goer, i dont like juicing, especially as my builds peak at tier 16 and more juice just sucks. Changed now that i transitioned my ice trapper trickster (peaked at 16 but great single target, easy feared) into LS trickster that can do tier 17’s well.

i think this league is the richest league i feel. i think the reason is simple. ease of access. in early league you need to jump 2-3 hoop just to turn bunch of item into C/D. but this league you can just farm1-2 map for gold and turn whole page of essense/deli orb/scarab into chaos/divine. and you can sell at the price you want. if you think the price is too low. just rate higher.and if you right it will sell eventually.

Still, dude describes a good deal of luck, mirror shard cards, high end shipment rewards all that good stuff People are skeptical, and that makes sense. Obviously, if the dude farmed for two weeks straight, he has a lot of saved up assets, it's just odd that in that time, he never really looked for upgrades beyond the gear he had at the time.
