On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

“Gly”: Hello everyone! The latest storm system that moved through the Southwest, dumping copious amounts of rain and snow, pretty much put a hold on everything, including me packing up and relocating to a different part of Arizona. I was supposed to be traveling yesterday, Friday, but I decided to wait until Monday for nicer weather and travel conditions. That’s why this week and maybe next Saturday will be reruns until I can get to my new location and get settled in. It’ll also allow some time for things to dry up because it’s quite muddy out there right now and the washes are all filled with water. In the meantime, I’ve been able to make a lot of progress on our website, but such things as T-shirts, hoodies, and hats aren’t available yet because I’m waiting for our new apparel logo design to come back from Designer Dave, my graphics designer and all-around swell guy. Concerning our website, please be sure to click on “categories” to see all of our latest offerings. The link to our website is in the description area of this video, as well as links to our social media and various tip jars. This is the video where I started to like mines a lot and now I beg for my family to take me to mines. You have awakened something in me Gly, and now I just cannot stop liking mine. You are the best Gly. So, far my goal before is to goal inside one mine at least before I'm 18. My goal for that is either Talc City or Reward Mine (Brown Monster Mine) Both in California. I hope one day I can do this. Love your videos Gly and keep up the great work! The music is beautiful at the beginning and for anybody wondering the name. Hy Gly, your drone flight was awesome, by the way I will not say where you at, but you missed the best part, take the trail that goes north and makes a sharp left like going downhill maybe 400 feet from where you enter at the beginning of the video there is another entrance to the lower part of the same mine there at least 1/2 a mile of tunnels down there. You will love it.

I feel like we have been here before and its a beaut. Or it was a very similar open pit intersecting an old mine. It was years ago that you did a video on it I think. It was an active operation you had gotten permission to document, and that large wooden structure that was in an exposed area was also documented but was 2-3 levels high if I recall. I distinctly rememeber the large passages as well. I have scrolled through the back log and cant seem to find it but this location feels like the same place or very similar with the big cut revealing multiple adits and levels. Maybe I'm just crazy. Its a rerun. I'm not crazy i just cant read descriptions. 🤣🤣what episode number was this one? Because i feel like it's an oldie but still a goodie.

I started watching on my AppleTV and thought … I’ve seen this before? Has the ole Gly finally lost it and went back to a place, recon and shot the same place and created a Geriatric Gly’peat! Say it ain’t so! Then got on my phone to read the comments and DARN IT, he’s still sharp as a miners axe pick. Gly, why not shoot a RV explore video and take us underneath for a gray and black tank dump! Mighty crappy, uhh I ment creepy under one of those working RV compartments and finished with a cup of Joe and Super Bowl speculation score.

Good morning Gly we saw the drone took the wind better than I thought it would do. Where's the living Laura at we also like hanging with you keeping you company? She can help you tremendously and you for her. Tell you it's not good to eat so she can eat it! I'm joking around. We like what we see or we wouldn't be here. We'll watch it all. When I drove for a living I went into many caves in Missouri and Kentucky. I even put up a video of Carthage Missouri. I drove very slow I tell you for the experience

Fine with me, I'll catch up on last weeks show I missed. I keep exploring my local mines, but find nothing but coal, big chunks, little chunks, powdery coal, dozer parts, empty semi trailers. And occasionally a 6000' spool of Prima-Det cord. I can't figure out how to light it.

This was one interesting mine and I didn't mind seeing the explore for a 2nd. time. If there was "fine" gold in those quartz stringers, those miners & mine owner must have had a good "pay out"......but the work that they put in, was pretty valiant. First of all I have to give you points for flying through that gap. I flew through the Goat Canyon Trestle with a Mavic 3 Cine and that was nerve wracking enough. I still have this desire to explore some old mines in California. The only thing that has prevented me from doing it is this unfortunate story I read about a canyon called Black Star Canyon. In fact I have a video up about the canyon. What is really unique about it is it looks like a tiny slice of Zion in Southern California. At the end of the canyon are Native American ruins and and old mine shaft. The thing is they must have tried to mine it when it was dry because there's a decent sized waterfall cascading through the old shaft, and it's gorgeous. But on your way out to this waterfall you will see some electric wire fences and areas that you clearly cannot go. Like they built up a cement foundation around the opening of the old silver mine and then welded a metal seal over the top. 2 local boys went exploring one day and hit a pocket that had no oxygen. By the time the realized, it was already too late... This is my first time coming across your channel. Should you ever be open to a collaboration and in OC, California at any point then we should connect. I am quite familiar with the area, a pro photographer, videographer and drone pilot. Just subbed

Very interesting film. Thank you for capturing this amazing place. I'm wondering how, say, 100 years ago, miners crushed huge quartz stones?! 🤔There's a lot of choice now of stone crushers machine to crush quartz into dust, but how was this done before?! If you look at the walls of this mine, all the walls are one solid cast stone! Not sand and clay, stone! 🙂 12:00 A very dangerous place. At the bottom there are probably many animal birds bones. Such a place must have a fence.

Great video! You are so very thorough, and I appreciate that very much. Your explanations are superb. Please be careful, though - getting video is not as important as your safety. A couple of minor points, since you seem to appreciate accuracy - (1) “orientate” is not typical American English. Although it is a neologism that has achieved acceptance, it is mostly used in British English, and the typical American verb is still “orient.” (2) An “isle” is an island; an “aisle” is a passageway.

@43:12 what was the piping for? What a mine! The gold must be finely distributed in this quartz. I've been in a few underground in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (copper w/some silver. There's a very few gold mines up there also but none are being worked at this time that I know of.

Why would they put so much material and expense into that vertical shaft you climbed up, when it led to nowhere? It would cost a fortune to dig and build that wooden structure today! 41:30 Maybe they were chasing a false lead?and why did they also dig vertically downward when you said it was definitely NOT a lead? Seems expensive for no purpose…

You know, Gly, I really do not like that "Scar". I enjoyed the video very much and found the contrast between the pit mine and the tunneling mining to be very interesting. It impressed me how elegant and more discrete drift/tunnel mining is compared to pit mining. The pit mining seems so vulgar - it defaces the landscape so much and seems greedy and careless. I love the mysterious tunnels of drift mining and they provide habitat for animals to boot!

I was to that mine several times in the 1970's. Back then virtually none of the wood or metal existed. But lots of notices by the mining company that was preparing to reopen it

love your drone work with the fantastic music great combination , and when you go down some of those old ladders it scares the krapp out of me , as i know if that me it woud definitely collapse with me on it followed by that inevitable impact with the ground, and all the possible injuries that would follow.. i know wood generally gives a little bit of warning before its about to shatter and i suspect the the older the wood the lessee the warning you that's about to shatter. your a braver guy than i am, .good luck to you all the same.

“Gly”: Thanks! Yeah, it’s not worth getting stuck in a wash and having to hire an expensive recovery service to get you out. Best just to wait until things dry up a bit.
