I hope to one day see a orca in the wild…people try and tell me to go to sea world, but I will not enjoy seeing captive orcas made to preform, and locked up in small cement cells. Unless a orca is very sick….they should be caught nursed back to health and released back in the wild. Orcas have long life spans.

Well unfortunately Orca's don't visit these waters its just too warm for them. Transients may be offshore but probably not.

Not just a dumping ground of thousands of pounds of waste. But also stop depleting it’s resources. We could farm fish but everyone wants fresh caught fish and the money from them. Alaska had to stop all salmon fishing this year and limit last year’s because there are no salmon. But hey it’s the all mighty dollar. There are almost no blue fin tuna left. Oh and sturgeon are also gone with many other species. So so sad.

It isn't that simple. Nets are incredibly expensive, especially for small time fishermen. No one willingly leaves nets, or portions of nets in the water if it's at all possible to retrieve them. Weather, currents, snags, emergencies, and even nets being torn and towed away by larger fish and whales... are things that are beyond the control of most fishermen. --- #1; People have to eat. #2; Fish are one of the best sources of protein available on the planet. Soooo, these things will continue to happen. It's not intentional.., no more so than auto accidents causing so many deaths. People are going to drive, regardless of the frequency of deaths involving automobiles. And... people are going to fish, regardless of accidental entanglements and collateral kills. I don't know what ever gave you the idea that lost nets and fishing gear is the result of negligent, incompetent fishermen. You sound as if this problem is similar to littering, something that is easily controlled with a little discipline. 🤔 "It ain't so.." Leaving retrievable equipment is like leaving $100 bills lying around, just because you're too lazy to bend over and pick them up.

Since you know so much about this problem, why don’t you use that knowledge to solve the problem with the nets. I’m sure the dolphins and whales caught in the nets wouldn’t have to die a slow painful death if the problem of the nets is solved!

They must change the rules for the fisher nets on a fisher boat. The nets all belong marked, that one can assign them to a certain boat. Once that happens, almost no one loses their net, unless there is an accident on board, which of course happens.

in the last couple of years, near Norway, Sweden and Finland the local orca pods have started ramming boats, rarely with provocation beforehand, and coming very close to sinking them.

@@LLjean-qz7sb No one knows why just that it has started happening and the boaters have not actively done anything to provoke them. scary to have a 20-30 foot boat getting rammed by a 25-30 foot whale with big sharp teeth.

@@jaquigreenlees I know about those cases. Scientists think those orcas have had bad run-ins with boats before. And in these cases they seem to be targetting rudders. They've probably been clipped before which makes the behaviour understandable. Not attacking humans by intent, attacking the boat based on previous experience. No less scary, but when we're in the water we are in their territory.

@@LLjean-qz7sb I agree with you if they feel threatened or if the males have female mates and if they are stuck trapped or threatened they will get very protective of them and guard them or the boats could have taken the fish the orcas were hunting
