Yes, three lead vocalists. Peter Cetera (bass), Robert Lamb (keyboard) and Terry Kath (guitar). Each brought something distinct and powerful to the whole. And the harmonies...

My friend was at a concert at a college and Chicago was the opening band before the main event. She came back and told about this amazing band that no one heard of yet. She told me they were going to make it big time and to listen for music by the Chicago Transit Authority because they will blow me away. She was right!

Chicago's discography is incredible. They are one of the best selling bands of all time. Songs you should check out: "Beginnings" "Saturday in the Park" "If You Leave Me Now" "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" "Feeling Stronger Everyday" "Make Me Smile" "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is?" "You're the Inspiration" "Hard Habit to Break"
@proudmoon3

This is a great list! I'd say "Beginnings" or "Make Me Smile" would be a great choice for the next time! Then progress through the early-mid 70's sound.

When they pared down to the basic musicians, without their amazing horn section ( many of whom were their songwriters ) you could hear see why they functioned so well as a hard rock band at the same time as being one of the first rock/jazz fusion bands. They had serious chops in both camps.

You should really react to the original Spencer Davis Group recording of this song, too. Stevie Winwood was only 15 or 16 years old when he wrote and recorded both “I'm a Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin'” with SDG. Winwood was a musical prodigy much like an American counterpart, Stevie Wonder. Both Stevies were performing live before they were in their teens and recording soon after. Both went on to long and distinguished careers pushing the boundaries of popular music. Chicago's live cover does justice to the song, too. By the way, if you haven't already done so, you need to check out Stevie Wonder's work, too. Good ones to start with might be “Sir Duke,” “Superstition,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours,” or “I Just Called to Say I Love You.” Another favorite of mine is his ballad, “Overjoyed.”

I'd suggest checking out the first song on their first album (Chicago Transit Authority) aptly titled Introduction. Their seventh album was another double LP, following Chicago V and Chicago VI which were single LPs. On the debut album you MUST check out Introduction, sung by Terry Kath, and Poem 58, a 9 minute track of PURE FUNK with a mind blowing Terry Kath guitar track!

In those early years of the late 60s and 70s, all three were more or less equally featured lead vocalists - in time, management would start to steer the band toward more ballads and feature Peter more which moved the band away from their earlier rock roots and Peter would eventually leave and go solo. This song is one of the few with no brass or woodwinds - all three of the horn players were on percussion here. The cowbell was trombonist, James Pankow.

Terry was, and IMO the greatest guitarist of his generation. I noticed you like the rock and brass section combo, a band we (Canadians) enjoyed at the same time was Lighthouse. If you get a chance try their song One Fine Morning.
