I always loved how this game tied into the rest of the Ubisoft Tom Clancy series with little references here and there. Made it feel like this truly was the end for the entire setting, one final war to end all wars.
To add to this, I always remember as a 9 yr old I was stunned how a US general in end war was the main character from ghost recon advanced warfare Edit: just realized too I’m pretty sure the general Marcus brown was a team mate from I think GRAW 2?
I remember playing this with my mic because you could give verbal commands to your units and have them go on their own to the points of interests. Interesting concept but it was finicky sometimes.
I've never really ran into any issues with it on PC, since well my microphone quality is not Xbox 360 Microphone level of quality, you can even be very fast with the commands, you can say the whole thing and the Voice to Text will interpret it and give the order pretty fast
I watched a few of the videos showing off the combat animations that went into this game, a number of weeks ago - shockingly, they're actually incredibly sophisticated and impressive for today, let alone 2009. It really rams home how much of a shell of its former self Ubisoft has become over the last 15 years. Do you remember games like the original Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy's Advanced Warfighter, Far Cry 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, EndWar, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory/Conviction - these games were so exciting and fresh at the time, because literally nobody had done anything like them in the past. And what do we have today? The same rinse and repeat copy of a copy of a copy: Ghost Recon Battle Royale. Another season pass of Rainbow Six Seige. Some new Assassin's Creed and Far Cry games that do exactly the same game and story, just in a ( typically skin-deep) new "setting". The last Ubisoft game I played was Far Cry 5 and I stopped after about 7-8 hours, I just couldn't stand how mediocre it was. It's sad to think what these younger generations missed out on...
ill agree that far cry is the same story but assassins creed its not while being a lot deeper then you would realize if you don't follow the story's of the games closely mechanics added to the assassins creed games have defiantly brought the quality down especially in odyssey and origin IMO
Idk man, Farcry 5 is reaaaally fun. I understand it's nowhere near the intense gruesome story line or as captivating as 1 and 2 but holy shit is it fun and beautiful, even without co-op. The villain isnt anything special but I still think he's unique in his own way. People say he's non threatening because he's just a religious nut but I love the way he's portrayed because there have been people like him in recent history who actually are scary for how they manipulate weakminded people into doing some really fucked up shit. Like the irl cults who willingly drank the suicidal coolaid for wacky religious reasons, Charles Manson, and the Waco Stuff. I honestly can't get enough of the game, a shame the New Dawn DLC is canon and not just a spinoff because it makes the story itself non Canon in a way. Now 6... 6 is fun in co-op but holy shit is it dumbed down to the point of boring mediocrity. No perks, No animations for alot of actions like searching or skinning, AI that is literally and unironically braindead, (unironic because most people say that as an exaggeration but the AI in 6 is really fucked) and a clothing system that was changed into an RPG style of pro and con but just doesn't work for the game at all. I do like the characters tho, and who doesn't love Chorizo. *(I miss Rainbow Six Vegas, you got me wanting to play it now, the couch co-op had me and my brother playing it for hours, It was such a good game too, I agree with everything else you said tho. Ubisoft just isn't hitting those highnotes anymore)*
Not just Ubisoft but even the people who make Tom Clancy Games. If Tom Clancy could he'd be rolling around in his casket with what they have done to his brand. Even their Ace Combat spin off (H.A.W.K.X) comes off as far more realistic than what they are releasing as Tom Clancy.
I thought R6 Vegas2 would set what physics would be, well boy I was wrong, after that it gone worse and more simplistic.. that gives more boring gameplay. Battlefield also toned down destruction after bad company 2, all was silly scripted collapses and we should joy for that? Felt disappointment.
@@TheBlankJoker I was disappointed to see CoD series actually surpassed Tom Clancy series, coz while campy and that 1950s war comic style, it also has more grit and realism and thus potential than CoD, which always was saving private ryan type near comical drama. There was even a movie in Tom clancy universe? but that must also be long time ago, like 2009.
Endwar was an awesome game in its day. Here's a few things I remember from playing tons of MP, specifically as EU: *The flashbang grenades ability could one shot enemy garrisoned infantry in buildings. It was absurdly powerful. * Combining an electronic warfare strike with a superweapon or a tier 3 airstrike would stun and completely instakill an enemy unit. This really hurt when it happened to your higher veterancy troops. * The command vehicle unit was very underrated. The drones it came with were fairly weak, but free to replace. On some maps you could cheese objectives with it. As a side note, for EU specifically the drone laser upgrade was either broken or intentionally useless. The laser weapon had effectively no range, so it was much better to just not upgrade them. The vehicle itself was short ranged, but surprisingly effective as a brawler near an objective. * Tier 2 Force Recon was extremely strong for its cost since it came with tanks. If you didn't have artillery, your own upgraded tanks, or points to drop an airstrike on it, those conventional troops were a pretty robust way to hold an objective or choke point. * The voice commands feature worked surprisingly well, and was very useful given the limitations of a controller (xbox 360). * If you felt like griefing, you could execute defeated enemy units before they could evac. I'll never forget Rapier and Broadsword, my two squads of legendary riflemen that made it from launch day to the first conquest reset alive.
It was always awesome to spam force recon on an objective. You could time your attacks where your own troops could harrass and withdraw to bring down shields right before your regular troops showed up. Plus tier 2 was more cost effective, tier 3 had an extra 1 or 2 tanks but fewer escorts so enemy gunships could easily pick them off. Tier 2 only had 1 or 2 tanks but had a full escort of about 4 or 8 APCs loaded with infantry, and was cheaper
@@NYG5 iirc Tier 3 force recon has 8 tanks, and 2 infantry platoons being transported by 8 IFVs, whereas Tier 2 only has 4 tanks, 1 infantry platoon, and 4 IFVs; and it only costs an extra command point.
One of the cheesier strats was to put a rally point in the enemy spawn then drop 2 force 2s on it. It would cause massive problems to the enemy if they didn't spot it in time.
They didnt want to give free camera so you have to use the command vehicle. Which i didnt like at first but it grew on me and I couldn’t stop using it and only went to unit camera when i needed to engage or looking for cover Edited: also the command vehicle gives you recon units which is extremely helpful
I loved this game! Such simplistic gameplay, but so much variety. I love that each faction had their own quirks. Russia used thermobaric weapons, Europe had this focus on laser weaponry, and US was all heavy ballistics. My favorite was using infantry and upgrading them to the top levels and upgrading all points with air strikes so they would be top level. Second favorite was doing the capital defense levels and waiting for the reinforcement timer run out and seeing this HUGE wave of allief NPC's swarm in. I also loved being able to call in QRF's (Force Recon) and seeing the different levels
I wish force recon units could be commanded, especially when you wanted regular infantry to dismount from the APCs to attack an objective instead of staying in and getting blown up while transiting.
This game was genre breaking. I remember playing this along with command and conquer tiberium wars (which franchise has also got cancelled). My favorite part of EW was the fact you could put your mic in and command your troops 99% through voice lines. (i.e. "Unit 4, move to alpha" or "unit 4, attack enemy 3" or something along those lines). Definitely ahead of its time on that one. Both this game and the command and conquer game i said also looked BEAUTIFUL for their time as well, although probably had better graphic allocation being it was an RTS game with limited commands/controls rather than an open world FPS of that time. Edit: If you love RTS, I highly suggest you checking out Cepheus Protocol. It's in beta right now but there is a randomized infected starting point scenario thing. It is pretty bare minimum with units but does show a lot of early game detail that could make room for amazing future content (like equipping soldiers with different weapons, training/experience, vehicles, fortification and defense tactics with power). There is this amazing part though... You can control the 'operator' and be a FPS soldier inside this RTS game.
Something cool I remember was that this game came out before headphones were common for video games, mostly people still used their 1 speaker headset microphone, and the units would respond to you through the headset and make you feel like you were in the comm network. God that was cool
I loved this game on 360. I even used voice commands, It was pretty fun way to play, if a bit janky at times. Its a shame we won't see a sequel. I loved how it encouraged you to save units to level them up, similar to Company of Heroes. It makes you feel a little more attached to units and not think of them as expendable cannon fodder. Great video!
I always put my infantry in buildings/any available cover for them to hide behind or in a forest to ambush/support my armor units, though I always play defensively rather than being aggressive and I always upgrade my infantry defense to help them survive.
Damn I used to play this so much back on the ps3, this is pretty nostalgic though it definitely was a very 'console oriented' RTS game. Still, a full, more indepth sequel that feels good on PC would have been awesome!
I played this game so much as a kid over on Xbox 360. Mostly played the US and a few times as Russia. And there's a trick to not letting the enemy team not use their ultimate abilities: camp the middle/last point that divides the battlefield and don't let anyone capture the majority
I always play as an Assault battalion and try to aim for hostile annihilation even in conquest. If you evacuate your units once they end up at 50% health instead of waiting for them to be defeated you deprive the enemy of Command Points so they can't call in more units fast enough before you reach their deployment zone.
@@NYG5 Killing enemies, evacuating your units before they get in the grey, and capturing uplinks always gives a set amount of command points (4, 2, and 4 respectively). Securing and keeping uplinks also speeds up the time you get command points, which is useful for modes like assault and raid, where you can deprive the enemy of resources and go for an annihilation.
should have showcased the command vic. upgrade with an attack uav and guard drones. You get a tactical overview of the battlespace with a disposable attack uav and drones. the uav and drones are pretty decent against low ranking troops too
I remember playing the demo a lot the demo came out back in 2008 on the x360. I remember around the time MS just released that dashboard update with the avatars. I remember back then the reason I enjoyed this game was because it was the closest I would get to playing something similar to World in Conflict, which was PC only and I didn't have a gaming PC at the time.
See this is when Ubisoft had love for games shame they never continued with it. Awesome that Mitchell ended up rising up to a Lieutenant General. And it's a shame that they changed to JSF assault rifle from a next generation XM8 to a SCAR-H from the alpha demo was hoping you could buy it from the barracks.
End War is amazing! Ubisoft owns Massive Entertainment, who made some of the best RTS Games (Ground Control and World in Conflict). So please, we need End War 2 made by Massive. I've always wanted a GR: Wildlands styled End War too. ^^
I remember playing this game on my PC as a kid. Sadly, I couldn't (ever) use the voice command at all due to problems with the mic. So, I ended having to manually shuffle the units with the mouse. Still, this game was both really fun and engaging. It's just a big shame that the planned sequel never came out.
Oh man I remember, me and 3 friends getting this game and play the online multiplayer for hours and hours. Force Recon was so strong as you could spam it and it would do decent damage, plus cap points for you while bogging down the other players actually units.
I rather enjoyed it on PS3... It was simple, but effective I managed to have a max rank army of units and was basically unstoppable, I usually played the EU faction. One of the interesting features related to the limited panning based on unit locations is that there's basically no fog of war, you basically just can see whatever your units can. I never used voice commands, it is actually super easy to control units with a controller in this game that it never really mattered lol
Sequel wpuldnt stand up today in competition with warno, broken arrow and such but it was very fun game back in the day underrated and underappreciated
I remember one way of preventing enemy use of WMD when I got this game is to just take what uplink I need and prioritising on killing the enemy. Eventually, you killed them enough they run out of time before they can deploy another unit, and you basically win the battle then. Pity the PC version of endwar sucks because you can no longer view and call the unit card when in command mode.
One of the coolest features was using your microphone to control units on the battlefield! Also really enjoyed the multiplayer aspect with the 3 factions battling for control over the map! I think they did like weekly battles [could have been monthly or seasonal? not sure]. Was really interesting to see the tug-o-war visiting the map at the main menu daily to see how your faction was doing in real-time. Would have loved to have seen a sequel to this title. Thanks for sharing and you've earned our sub/likes! -Sentinel
The Nintendo DS version of this game was a turn based game, and I remember it being pretty fun, it's probably the reason I love strategy games now it looks a little rough now though lol
I loved this game when this came out. The voice command was amazing and this was my introduction to strategy games. Up to its release I had only played fps games but this really got me invested in it. It was also the first time the AI didn't fall into complete patterns so you could easily defeat them. Depending on the level and how much you paid attention you could get your butt kicked.
Good times! I rebought it for PC a year back or so. A united Europa and WW3 without nukes, a very interesting idea. Heck, I even tried a fanfic of Endwar
I loovedddd the mild asymmetry in the game, the DLC made sure that the rock paper scissors gameplay got turned on it's head very quicky once you ran into players who could juggle well
Used to play this a couple of boys, we played Russia and my boy always pulled tanks and I always pulled apc's and infantry, his cousin would pull the hq unit and copters, our other friend that'd hop on would pull infantry and I'd zip him around. I remember one day the cousin invited everyone on a trip to NK and the day after we fell apart as a group, lol. Start this game up on my steam now and play it from time to time because it's still extremely fun, still remember some of the jokes and arguments we got in with a smile on my face, hope they're all doing good. Just remembered I put a lot of time into arty to but you have to have a strong line to support it.
Did anyone ever send their armor units to a random point in the map where they would pass by an engaged enemy, so you could see them fire on the move. This game is so epic.
With this game I would say it was a brilliant proof of concept for a voice controlled strategy game, a bit of time on making friendly/enemy AI more intelligent (example you order your units to defend a point they spread out and take cover - infantry hide in buildings automatically etc) and allow the commander to focus on the big picture, with more objectives would have been good
This and Stormrise, were really fun, but I do think the camera perspectives hurt both, and for Stormrise Whip Select as well, as it is the only method of selection in Stormrise and on its own it is... not enough like you can play End War more traditionally if you have a Command Vehicle deployed, but Stormrise you had to take into consideration a lore more, like say every level of a parking garage could house a sniper team, every street corner and alleyway a Rage, a Matriarch or a Stalker waiting in ambush, every skyscraper could be concealing air units (or even the Eclipse on some maps where it is usable by Echelon players), and whip select on its own just cannot keep up to how RTS games are played normally I found, like Endwar you can give orders as fast as you can speak while also ordering units the old fashioned way, Stormrise is at its best when it is static, with clearly defined front lines, while most others including End War allow for more fluid situations where you do not need most of your army in one place to make commanding them easier to do, because the selection method is flawed on it’s own.
remember playing this game's demo on xbox360 back in 2010, came within other game's dvd which I already forgot the name. in 2014 I buy this game on steam. forgot about it and It stuck in my library with 0 hr. playtime. good time to playing this now.
I had it in my library for so long but never played it. Installed it last night on my steam deck and I find it surprisingly good! It's no COH, Regiments or Red Dragon but it's a lot of fun.
Remember in PvP when someone would fly just close enough with helicopters to call in a level-3 airstrike or WMD? *IT'S ME AUSTIN! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG AUSTIN!!!! EVERY DAMN ONE OF YOU WERE MADE FOOLS OF!!!!* 😈
They should make this again! New voice recognition and you could even have an app linked to the game as a command pad like in fallout your phone can be your pitboy
I have a working xbox 360 just for this game. Plus i remember just losing battle after battle just to extend the campaign, just to smash everything with the best units. All three factions were so much fun, repeative but still fun when you go into a battle with intent to win. Gonna have to get this on steam. Does the steam version inculde the DLC units? edit: i had the parent wtf effect as well, i got my dad to play a bit since the voice commands blew his mind // Multiplayer was also a lot of fun, not where near as toxic as say MW or Halo 3 lobbies were. Still have some of the friends i made through either wrecking or getting wrecked on my friends list.
I loved killing the evac transports and I’ve had a few mass retreats into the woods. Iconic moment was arty blasting my troops as they ran to another lz through the trees
Man it sucks they shot down the servers I like the online conquest mode it's like the campaign but you play against players and each player has its own battalion
I played this game with voice command until my roommate played it on my pc while I was out for weekend. His English sucks. When I came back, the game can no longer recognize my speech, and I had no idea how to correct it.
This game and the other RTS game which was World in Conflict were games that deserved sequels. To see what the end result of WW3 would be line. However perhaps the reason is cause the real world is currently for the last decade been preaping for the actual war. .
I like the fact you can keep your units from one mission to the next but the game style isn t for me. I ve been searching for a game with this kind of ‘rogurlike’ element where you want to keep your units alive and improve them. So far i have call to arms dynamic campaingn but the skirmish are not that good and you can t really manage your army. Syrian warfare but russian propaganda and there is only the campaign and heroes of normandy which is small and turnbase. If anyone has recommandation :D
The SP campaigns of Wargarme maybe? You have brigade, battalions and companies and ita better to keep units alive to be able to oush for regions. Casualties can be replenished but take both resources and a turn
@@nahuelleandroarroyo thanks, I ve tried it when it was free with epicstore its too fastpace for me and it lacks this micromanagement I m seeking, for example in Call to amrs each units has an inventory and experience level, in syrian warfare each vehicle has a crew which gain experience and you can select the weaponnery a unit can use. I m looking for these kind of mecanics but I m begining to think this game only exists in my dreams
I always thought restricting the camera to units was really good for immersion but many people I've heard talk about the game don't like it. I guess playing RTS with the unrestricted camera for one's entire life makes any restriction a negative. I'm really hoping for another RTS which restricts the player camera to around player units.
It trips me out how different the world was let alone the videogame and entertainment industry was back in the day. Everyone today is so cautious and scared of “crossing” a line or offending someone. We have the same rinse and repeat everywhere now.
I loved playing this game but locked camera hits it hard but world in conflict came out in around same time of this and it kinda squashed it but this game did look great for its time .
Actually this game did get a sequel. But I guess its best we don't talk about that, and pretend it doesn't exist 🙃 Also, if only Ubisoft allow modding for this game, then the fanbase would be way bigger today.
Dude I still play this game to this day. Russia, as much as I despise their current day actions, is my go to faction. If there's still people playing it, I'd want to make our presence know. This game isn't a failure if there are people still playing it.
Best thing ablut this game, is certain AIs had different traits. Some used a lot more arty, and some a lot of air power. Its really upset your method of fighting.
I personally enjoyed this game even with the voice command mechanics. It wasn't difficult to use but you had to make sure you spoke clearly in your commands.
