modding is not illegal as long as he is not providing any pirate software. the ps5 modding scene is pretty cool with its 60 FPS patches by Illusion. Even DigitalFoundry uses them. It is not ilegal at all.
This is Nintendo though. They don't like people freely doing whatever they want with the products people buy. For someone like Phil, who has his own repair company, if he was seen doing or advocating Homebrewing or modding of any console, then it'd put him at risk of being sued. So he's gotta keep his nose powdered PS, I'm not against modding. I have a Homebrewed 3DS, an RGH3 Xbox 360 and a jailbroken PS3. I also plan on Homebrewing a seperate Switch and at the same time do a transparent Joycon shell replacement too. If anything bad happens, well I'm doing this at my own risk
As soon you buy the device, the device is yours for you to do whatever you want. Install illegal copy of the games is the problem. You can have you switch modded to run homebrews and have your backups. Modding is not illegal.
I can confirm that Nintendo go after modders that do these services (even in the UK). A lot of people that advertisted doing it for a fee, Nintendo contacted them for a service but instead they sent a C&D. They even sued a person in Canada for making a RCM module. They didn't f'around this time. They were using the new EU laws about circumvention of the encryption protection.
Hi sir, Please had a something need to ask, after a full shutdown of my xbox series x my external ssd keeps running, it's seems the usb ports keeps supplying power even after shutdown, is it common or just mine had some issues, Thanks a lot
I found a ps5 for parts for around 222 pounds on ebay, it states it has no power, no beep its dead, lets say i buy it and send to you how much would u charge. Or do you sell fixed consoles thanks
You can bud but it really depends what's wrong with it. On average repairs cost around £80 so I'd say £220 for the console might put it in the realm of not worth it
@@TheCod3r Also, you have to be very cautious on Ebay, there are aholes who actually put Frankenstein systems together from all the defective parts they had lying around in their repair shop ... Don't ask how I know ...
The problem is a lot of people use Homebrew for piracy. Homebrew in itself doesn't allow it, but there's so many 3rd party apps and tools which do. Those are what ruin it for the rest of us
Phil mate, I have never laughed so hard at a youtube video. Watched this live on Twitch and the way you have edited the comical sounds over the swears is genius. Keep up the great work!
Hardware modding is NOT illegal, modifying the firmware or installing pirate software is. Putting back the mod is entirely legal providing all you do is replace something that was already in place and do not touch anything software wise. I admit i have naughty stuff on my Modded Switch but I also have Android on it, if Android or Linux was the only thing the mod was used for then it would be 100% legal.
this isn't that bad lol you shoulda seen my first attemtps. i learnt microsoldering from switch modding, i killed a couple on my first attempts and then had to wait months to save up to buy them again lol but it was good to learn. im pretty good at it now. i really think people need to state how bad cheap solder is i think thats a major problem this persons install probably would have been okay if they had some good solder cheap trash makes it so much harder to solder than it should be and doesn't wet properly Just wondering how do you dry the boards after ultrasonic?
@@TheCod3r I know where I am at a person who lived in the UK who had to send me their sledge just so they can get modded where I live because the cortis pretty much ruled even though his circumvents security and a can lead to piracy, it's not in itself or piriting device
@thecod3r is it different across the pond when it comes to mods? In the us when you buy something you own the hardware and can do anything you want with it. If you have a mod to play pirated things the mod itself isn't illegal. Now what software is loaded is an entirely different story. (And Nintendo will sue normal people out of existence even if they've done nothing wrong)
"Nintendo will sue normal people out of existence even if they've done nothing wrong" is exactly the problem, exactly the risk. Even if he just installs mods and provides no pirated software, Nintendo could sue anyway. That's why it's not worth doing the mod installs.
I thought the backlight ic was on the front above the ribbon cable connector? I have been swapping that one in the past, I didn't know of this one too unless I am missing something?
I did mod some stuff in the mists of time, couple of Dreamcasts I did so they could use the jolly roger discount, the big one was my Gamecube as I bought a dark purple clear full size disc case from HK's Lik-Sang, put a mod chip on it and wired in some funky lights and put clear cases on the controllers as well and whilst it "could" play any jolly rogering discs I never did and think the only naughty no no I did do was put a JPN Skies of Arcadia on it and that was only a different region and just about the most expensive game I ever bought grumble grumble £100 moan pout stamp foot.
Could you do a video on the nand upgrade on your switch ? No illegal stuff, i‘m just interested in the hardware part if you upgraded an existing emmc or are there existing chips for replacement? Keep up the good work, i love your videos ❤
The hardware part is pretty basic get the right chip, take off small chip replace with big chip. But iirc the emmc is married to the board so you somehow have to write the correct firmware and serial numbers to your new chip.
Maybe time to start charging a small additional fee for any console with chewed up screws. Extra work should have financial reward. You're running a business after all and time is money
Reading the comments, have to state that he's refering to jailbreaking the console which is not "fair dealing". There are lots of hardware mods that are legal, like adding RGB to an older console or hdmi. Overclocking the CPU via a hardware mod. Increasing the storage available. Here he is removing a failed jailbreak mod. The guy can try to reinstall it at his own risk.
Actually it is illegal the only why that it not illegal is if I do a mod that doesnt tamper with the original settings of the devices and doesn't mess with the firmware of the console and doesn't have illegal games on said console so it just better not to mod unless u know the rules in your country and so forth.
I know it's the stuff that's done with it, but it is illegal to offer modding as a service and it's especially illegal to circumvent security which is exactly what this mod does
and its just not worth the trouble specially with nintendo by god that company are brutal when it comes to this sort of thing im all with you phill i completly agree 110 percent you know whats best@@TheCod3r
Problem I see is that specially with nintendo products and the mod chips available thats your client base, the people who try to mod there console and fail and need to get it fixed lol, i mean you know that but you have to just laugh at this ha
It wouldn't be cost effective to do with shipping costs unfortunately. I would recommend sending it to Computer Booter as he's in the states (california)
@moorej16 I'm happy for you to send it in mate, but I'd need to make you aware you're very likely going to be paying more than the console is worth because customs might add fees on to the delivery too. As long as you're aware of that I'm happy to work on it :) thanks too, I appreciate the support 😊
@TheCod3r thanks :) was not sure if it was home brew or like a fan mod or something along thoes lines I home Brewed my wii so I can play Game cube roms
After this I'll bid lightly on "for repair" switches. Fortunately I've only ran into damaged charging ports so far. Great video as always. Keep up the great work. 👍
Hey TheCod3r or anyone else if you know, if you get a moment. Do you know the specs / name of the capacitors surrounding the PS5 HDMI Encoder Chip, I messed up and lost quite a few of them (I now need like 5-7 of them don't know the count 100%) from trying to repair my PS5 myself (I had never worked on anything before so very much a learning experience). Does anyone also happen to know where one could purchase them is a somewhat larger quantity like 20pcs, or is that something that I would need to get a donor board for?
I would never reinstall the mod for any amount of money. Anyone who does in my opinion is pretty dumb. Sorry, but why risk your business and freedom for it?
