We're back in the garden and this time we're talking about beans. Mama Hoss and I have been growing green beans since we've been married, for over 38 years. We recently found a green bean variety a few years ago, we put it through our trial garden, and it has been one of our favorites ever since! The Hoss Green Blaze! If you haven't already grown this, you NEED to! This variety has an amazing taste and puts off crazy amounts of yield. Let's Grow Together and Get Dirty! Ya'll be sure to check out the video on how to preserve your bean harvest! Link is below!

Did four 100ft rows of PV857s. Literally had enough to feed the town last year. Only did two 100 foot rows this year to tone it down.😂

I’m with you! Green beans are a staple in my garden! Always have been, always will be! I just finished snapping a load this morning. If Mama Hoss came off of a hog farm, picking/snapping/canning beans is like a vacation for her! 😎

Here in Missouri for greenbeans I like a bush variety like blue lake, golden wax or royal purple. I've found if I pick them every 2 to 3 days and they have enough water I can pick them for a long time. Now extreme heat and dry we usually lose them. So I'm sure thats a battle in the south. I did some black beans last year for dry beans

We grow October beans. We let them dry on the bush and shell them. They have a nutty flavor and they cook faster than pintos.

I have been growing green beans for decades. However, over the past few years I have started growing dry shelling beans (navy, great northern, kidney, and pinto) for fun as a fall crop. Here in north central Florida November and early December can be quite dry, which is ideal for maturing the dry beans that I planted in mid August. The only problem is that these beans are incredibly cheap to buy in bulk at the store, so it makes no economic sense to grow them at home, nor do the home grown dry beans taste any better than store bought.

Saute some garlic in olive oil and drop the green beans in for about 7 to 8 mins and they are delicious. You can also prepare the canned beans the same way.

I sure hope I can get a few pickins of green beans before the summer heat sets in. I planted more on June 9th, since my first plants didn't do well, (over watered them). They started sprouting June 12th. I didn't pull the first plants. I have pruned them back and they're actually recovering. I might just get some green beans yet.

Beans are pretty much essential for any sort of "survival" garden. Fresh, canned or dry, they're mighty good for you. And I'm pretty sure there's a variety of beans that you can grow in almost any climate or zone.

Have Momma Hoss in a video on how to can beans and other things. Supplies needed in the beginning and rookie mistakes to avoid. Seventy years ago I remember my grandmother and aunts buying bushels of tomatoes (we lived in New York City) and canning them for use in sauce. That is a skill that was lost.

Hey, Greg! I may try those next year - I've heard good things about them. Today I got my first picking of the Momentum bush beans - Lordy, to they ever produce, and temps in the 90's haven't bothered them at all. The dang pea curculio are horrible this year! Luckily, I got my three harvests on the Jade bush beans I planted before they really bad. We're getting daily rain here in the North Florida Panhandle, and I can't keep Spinosad or Azera on them! Once I get enough canned to last until next year, I'll just pull them, and this Fall, I'll use beneficial nematodes to get rid of the curculios. It's too hot to do it now, but when it gets cooler, those little buggers will clear them out.

I love growing yellow and green snap beans, but they do not do well in my huge pots. The foliage is pale green and only in September do they begin to grow beans. Same thing happening again this year. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for mentioning PEAS, for the life of me, I am not successful in growing peas! The seedling come up vigorously but then never grab on to the supports and end up dying. What am I doing wrong?

Why grow tobacco plants?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss Год назад
Just for novelty, flowers are pretty and great for bees. Tobacco has always been considered as a medicinal plant. Before its use as a smoking material, it has been used as a traditional medicine for common illnesses. It is claimed to be an antiseptic, sedative, emetic, purgative and useful in relieving pain.

I picked my first green beans today. Rattlesnake beans are our favorite. I cooked them for supper and canned 7 pints. They were so good with fried squash and wieners and kraut. Yum! I’ve never grown them in the fall because I usually have plenty canned to last til the next year. Enjoy your videos and products.
