Chickens are very easy to keep if your neighborhood and city allow it. They will eat anything and will give you delicious nutritious eggs every day. If you don’t think you have a food recycling or composting center near you I suggest you get chickens. I raised our chicks and they were very gentle and friendly. They love to eat slugs and snails and bugs in the garden as well.❤❤

Ok so the grounds are REcycled and as soon as something else starts growing in them, that plant is UPcycled!! So ya got both going on!!!

I'm weary of all the guilting that goes on in the world. People throw out food so they don't abuse themselves by overeating. They also compost it when they are given the opportunity. I'm sure EVERYONE may be able to simply come up with the funds to start a successful new venture!

I always put my banana peels into my compost - until a gardener told me to cut it out, because the peels are slightly radioactive (like Brazil nuts and wild mushrooms they seem to be hyperaccumulators for radio isotopes). Now I know hwy my neighbour around the same time asked me if I had snakes in the composter - it turned out that the "snakes" were my earthworms... They were really fat and gross looking when they tangled themselves up in large balls, but my compost was magical ;-) . Coffee grounds (fresh or used) can also be used to deodorise your fridge, or even shoes (put them into a sock and stuff into shoes), and purportedly are a good fertilizer (I tried it, but could see no accentuated effect) and slug deterrent (same effect with my plants - none, maybe the wrong coffee :-) whereas the slugs take one slurp from a borage leaf, and seem to leave it at that). Furthermore a skin peeling with ground coffee is REALLY intense - I would recommend to use it for acne-riddled backs, face skin can be too sensitive. Now I have just to remind myself that I still have a mushroom growing set lying around - no rest for the wicked.

Wow, I bought one of their mushroom kits in the grocery store last year and was surprised to see the video turn out to be about the kits. The kits are great, and you get many mushrooms.

I’m not sure if it’s the same thing briefly mentioned, but in Iowa we make our own gas called ethanol out of corn. It’s seen as a greener fuel option. I don’t know the science around that though. It’s also a cheaper option too.

U should have used the Finnish Neste Mydisel as an example because in Finland you can buy Diesel made out of food waste and some planes use jet fuel made out of food waste that is also by Neste.Neste is a Finnis gas station company btw.

Every avid gardener should lay his hands on ground coffee whenever possible: it's a great fertilizer when mixed with soil and - here comes the interesting thing - a great repellent for many nuisance in form of slugs, mice, even those sweet cuties like rabbits and bambies don't like the smell of it, so they leave the salads to you. It's even a mild pesticide that hinders the growth of bad baceria and fungi.

I have composted coffee grounds, spent tea, eggshells… and vegetable scraps for 7 decades. It hasn’t Made me any money, but my gardens are amazing!

I think we could easily slow down food waste if businesses like Walmart wouldn't over buy just to make their fresh product displays look overfilled. I have worked food retail for some time and the amount of waste just from food businesses alone is astounding. The amount of food that got thrown away simply because it was too close to inventory to donate is vomit inducing. One store could have easily feed all the families in the nearest town for the holidays just in good food being thrown away because the displays needed to be filled despite knowing they wouldn't sell everything that had been produced. Another store I worked at was small, but they could have filled several homes with the amount of waste they produced because they also just wanted to make their displays look good and full despite knowing they would only sell like 20% of what they ordered and produced. If we set a standard for businesses to stop this trend it would make a major difference in food being thrown away.

Used coffee grounds are amazing for plants. You can also dry it and burn it when camping to help keep the mosquitoes away. I'm lucky enough to live where I can have animals, so any food that isn't eaten will go to either the dogs or the other animals. I even throw out the fat trimmings for the wild animals and birds.

mixing food waste with other waste is stupid and expensive, but if we at least roughly sort organics, paper, glass and metal, soft and hard plastics, they become valuable raw materials. mixing all this up and burying it in the ground should be punishable and must have a higher penalty than spitting out a piece of chewing gum in the street.
