I haven't talked about this much yet, but I am now officially a Kawai Sponsored Artist!! They sent me the keyboard you see in most of my videos as well as this absolutely gorgeous Kawai GX-2 grand!! I'm incredibly lucky to have this opportunity and it's all thanks to you guys. MUCH more to come from the piano room!
I can imagine this being played on loop in classy restaurants where people are dressed in tuxedos and louboutins As a broke student I feel like I should not be listening to this
I mean my room looks like it's belongs in a mansion not a almost delapted town house in the hood. Live how you feel not by the limitations others have of you.
Sorry irrelevant comment, but I love your collaborations with Jesse Cox, and it's funny to see you here, I didn't know you were a jazz or James Cornell fan!
Idk about everywhere, but a lot of people give away grand pianos, they take up a lot of room, very hard to sell, and are hard to transport so you usually need to sell locally. (Obviously they wouldn’t be new like this but yeah)
@@michaelfoxbrass I don’t think it is. It’s just that the starting notes are a bit similar, but once he hits the second diminished chord it’s very clear that this is “It could happen to you”. That song has a signature chromatically rising bass, and a diminished on second and fourth chord of the first bar. At 2:37 his left pinky play that signature rising bass note (Eb E F F#).
@@JayChokdee I would say it is on the slow boat to china because of the melody bits in the beginning. On a slow boat and it could happen's chord progressions are basically the same. And the diminished chords might just be that he is using them as substitutions to dominant chords. Well it really doesn't even matter what the song it is.
@@topiliski1497 I’m pretty sure it’s “it could happen to you.” If you listen to to Ryo Fukui’s album “Scenery,” he plays this tune, and trust me it’s the same chord progression. I have a good ear lol. I’m not too familiar with Slow Boat, but it could be the case that both share the same progression, as many jazz standards do
I would play the crap out of this Kawai, when I was in music school sometimes they would let us rehearse on a beautiful Yamaha grand piano in the main concert hall, and I’m telling you, playing on a great piano like that feels like your soul is enchanted, you never want to stop!
I don't think you understand how much you inspire people. I for one get lost in your videos, and, they basically light my (creative and performance) fire when I'm slacking. You inspire with your music and your mentality. Don't ever stop. a man as beautiful as his music!
Hmmm. Complimentary, yes, but it almost sounds like you have a little bromance brewing in your wishful thinking mind. No matter. Everyone is entitled to their fantasies!
Speaking just for myself, I honestly hated jazz until I was like 20, because my only idea of jazz was something like Coltrane's Ascension. People can have their first experience be that album and still love it, but it wasn't for me. I think there may also be some association between jazz and background music (or "muzak") that feels boring and uninspiring. So those are two conflicting reasons for my own history, can't claim they apply to anyone else.
@@emmettmeehan3331 nah same here for a long time I just didn't "get" it, it just sounded boring to me. Despite many times trying, trying different artists and styles of jazz it just never clicked. Then one day it just did. I have no idea but it did, I find it can be so relaxing, so exciting, dramatic. So I guess just be persistent lmao
I think some people just hear the wrong moments. It's like reading a book but only a paragraph every 5 pages; Strange and dissonant. I still have a hard time with jazz. But damn, some of those notes, chords, etc. just catch you the right way.
It depends on the jazz real chill stuff like this I absolutely love, but you get into the more high energy and theoretical stuff and I just kind of lose interest.
@@pilote23 I missed it too! Although it's so perfectly placed that I suspect he didn't do it on purpose; he must have it deeply engrained in his subconscious and it just came out. Good catch tho!
You definitely need to make more videos of just playing, you just jamming at the start of most of your videos are some of my favorite parts, and I definitely think others agree lol
Wish there were more YT channels of people just jamming on a piano. Plenty of channels that cover tutorials or sheet music, a few really good ones on music theory, but not a lot where it's just someone playing without thinking about all that!
This piece's playing is tastier and a tad less flashy/more minimalist. You're getting better Charles. You're at the point where it's not about ability anymore, it's about mindset.
The mark of a musician is keeping the audiences attention and making them feel. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top, no need to show off. This was great! Thank you
I really appreciate the simplicity of this video. Just 3.5 minutes of you enjoying a gift, and us getting to hear that. The piano speaks for itself as far as sponsorship, beautiful sound. No "HEY GUYS" needed :)
Just bought the little brother to this - a GX1 - and will be getting it (hopefully) in 3 months. Am praying all the cargo ships make it safely from Japan!! lol Beautiful job on this, Charles. I was trained classically from age 4-17 and am just getting back to serious playing in midlife. Thank you for this inspiration!!
Super great stuff, make more things like these! Not only is it great to listen to on your free time but it’d be great to fall asleep to, super relaxing. I love it!
Makes me feel like I'm sitting in an upscale bar in New Orleans at 2 a.m., nursing a drink I'd never have in real life (something with "vermouth" in it, probably)
Kawai is a massively underrated instrument company. I have an MP7SE and it's literally one of the best feeling stage pianos you can get, and it's a thousand less than its competitors.
It's a really nice grand piano! I'm a piano player myself, and I always see black grand pianos, but this brown Kawai is really nice! It stands out from other grand pianos.
Can we get videos like this once in a while of just your playing? Doesn’t have to be something consistent, but it’s always a joy to hear you play, can’t hurt to have more of that
This is such a great performance imo. I can remember everything he plays in my head when I haven't listened to it for ages. Ok I get that its not oscar peterson or liszt level playing but his melodic lines are so memorable and the chords are so cool in places (in the ending for instance) and I just think it's really a perfect performance that tells a story 👏 He needs to release a few more videos like this 🔥
Kawai knows how to make an incredible piano. In fact a Shigeru Kawai SK-7 is one of my 2 favorite pianos that I've ever played. Congrats on the new instrument!
