I bought it because I was excited then used it and returned it. It’s awful. Until they can update it for us to use it like a main control hub/dashboard, it’s just worthless to me.

I think the reason for all the useless things is because Amazon's marketing team is 90% of the company. How about Amazon stops idiotically spreading itself thin, and for once finish refining products that have already been released. Alexa AI is just as dumb as the first day it was released - make your innovations there.
Oh I definitely like magic mirrors and smart displays I love the whole raspberry pie with made that was going on with that but I’ve googled and Amazon to find a way to main stream all the stuff that would be awesome there’s a lot of companies that I saw at the Vegas convention I have a lot of great things but it’s like when are we going to get them in a cohesive product
I actually would love to have one of these. Then have the whole family schedule on it. I was going to make one of my own that did that with a pi. One thing I give Amazon/Alexa credit for is they update the older devices and keep them working instead of just letting them become obsolete. So, you can kind of be assured they will update and fix the issues. They've historically been good about that.
Yea, better off if they just made a 15" tablet that comes with an official wall dock. Also for the smaller versions as well. So when it's mounted, it should automatically detect the docks and ask if you would like if you would like to change mode/UI to accommodate various applications like user mode and "show" mode when mounted
Wait… so they have managed to make the interface on the Show spinny head work reasonably well, but never thought to use that work in the Show picture frame? What are they doing, just giving pointless busy work to their crappy developers in order to justify their salaries? I hate this! The fact that every current Show device has a different interface tells me there’s no coherent design model going on, like each model is created in its own silo, and they expect us to buy into it. Maybe they need to take a shuffty at Apple, at least they manage to make their branding look like there’s some connection between their various devices. Fix it Bezos, you cock rocket merchant!
Why would a 10" device need to have the same interface as a 15" device? If I recall correctly when the iPad was released everyone cried that it was just a bigger iPhone. Apple is finally deciding to differentiate. Amazon has learned that lesson and is doing it early.
@@steppedon I’ve not seen the new iPhone interface, so I can’t comment, but I’m guessing Apple aren’t making it completely different. Unlike Amazon, who seem to love reinventing the wheel on elements that work perfectly well.
I received mine this week and I do agree that the sound quality is not what was expected at all but then again this is quite an amazing device when you consider that you can use it in both landscape or portrait mode which don’t know exactly why you would want to use it in portrait mode too often except it would make a scene recipes in the kitchen a lot easier I have mine mounted with a stand purchase separately and the stand I put on top of a simple Lazy Susan allows me to pivot it and move it around so it fits nicely on the kitchen counter again little large but it does fit their pretty well it will does work very well with my ring cameras and as opposed to opening an app on my iPhone or something else to view my ring cameras it’s much faster than that the responsiveness of the voice interaction is good I’m still exploring but I think overall it is a good product they will work out all the other little bugs and there are a bunch of them of course but that’s just like any new product launch for my get my money I would say if it’s something you’re interested in you should probably go ahead and get it when I mount it on the wall down to me it’s way too big for that anyway thanks Paul for the great videos you do

It could be cheapear do a dyi, with a laptop screen from a non working laptop. Buy a rp and install google home on. Then just buy a frame from local store that fits the size of the screen, and its done

Completely agree with this. I haven’t committed to putting it up n the wall as I’m not convinced by it’s functionality yet. There are features that are an absolute mess. My main reason for buying was the possibility of third party widgets, mainly sonos control. The smart home widget is absolute rubbish too, why can’t it show the room that it’s in. Great video as always Paul. William shatner joke had me lol 😂
There ARE videos on RU-vid that show how you can revert an Amazon Tablet to standard Google Android, from where you can install more useful/reliable (Google) apps to suit your needs... Now... I dont get it. Why does not Amazon just release an APP (Dashboard with widgets) that we could use on all our fire tv's ? Why my BLINK (amazon) cameras dont have a push to view button and need my voice to show up, when Wyze cams show up automatically ? Samsung is doing the same with their new project of a Smarthings Dashboard on an 8 inches !!!! tablet ? Why, why why ? Just make the new apps work on any of your existing screens/dongles/things ! FFS !
I've noticed that I now get picture-in-picture on my Echo Show 10. Anyway, can't see a compelling reason to upgrade to this, especially with that ridiculous price tag and all of the bugs and bad UI design. Knock £100 off AND fix the issues, and it MIGHT be worth it.
Since the Echo Show version 1 I say it is an absolutely useless product without content and they should rather focus on content for that thing than a new HW release every few month. And yet there is version 15 and still barely any content that would justify this product. But the thing is that Amazon has zero interest in making a product useful, create new features for existing products. They just want to sell you new HW every 6 month.
Releasing things half baked and that dashboard it why I use Google and more recently Home Assistant. You are absolutely on the money calling them out for this one, it could have been an absolute slam dunk of a product
How right you are about Amazon being annoying! I really wish you could turn their jokes off on their Alexa, she seems to take jokes at a higher priority than routines! Every time I tell her to let the dog out, she says who who food, or she adds dog out to my shopping list. I have an auto slide on my sliding glass door, it automates the door for the dog.
I have watched this twice and now after paying close attention to each point... I agree, there is no place in my home ready for a 240 pound picture frame. If it fell it could easily kill my pet iguana Ted, a.k.a. "Scale Baby."
Amazon didn't have to go for 4K.... Instead of a 15" 1920x1080p resolution.... They could have at least gone with a 2.5k (2304x1296(16:9) or 2400x1600(3:2)... 🤔😏 😎🇬🇧

Had mine shipped from the US to Malaysia and extremely disappointed with it. I can't even get anything to appear in my smart home favorites widget. Tried everything and it still remains empty. And as you mentioned my Fire HD 8 has a far better dashboard than this garbage.

It's so true about Amazon not bothering to implement things, I have a Toshiba fire tv 4k and I have 2 second gen echoes and I got a echo sub for Xmas so I finally thought hmm let's try making a studio pair, guess what, doesn't work with my tv . I called Amazon and they said "their may be a update in the future but if you by a firestick 4k and plug it in to your fire tv it should work" WHAT KIND OF MADNESS IS THIS !! I have to buy a fire stick for my TV that already had a firestick built in. Further more after I buy the fire stick for me fire tv NOW my echos are too old and I have to buy new ones of those if I want to actually use the studio pair
Just got my Saturday Morning HibbertFix. I've been thinking about one of these for the kitchen, but as you point out - so many things are not finished, so I'll wait a while - or maybe have a go at building my own (yeah- right -"Pie? meet Sky"). On a sensible (?) note I would offer this opinion on why a 1080p panel instead of 4K (apart from the Corporate Greed angle). It's a 15 inch display, I would challenge the average user to be able to tell the difference, in normal use - I'm talking about real world scenario's - glancing at the screen for the next line of a recipe, watching a Netflix movie whilst cooking, checking "A**xa! What's on my shopping list". I'm sure you can tell the difference if you sit and watch the entirety of Avengers Endgame - but "Movie Night" huddled in the kitchen looking at a 15-inch screen is insane.
I'll have you know Amazon that I did, complain, I leave feedback on my gen 1 echo, the developers on the other end are rushing to fix it.... ☺️ Any day now

So its just a big screen digital photo frame but u can buy a samaung 10 tablet for less then £60 now and install a smart home app and a wall mount and it does better then this seems a lot of wast for the money

What I suspect will happen is what they did with the Echo Show 5 and 8: release a more expensive second edition in about a year with many of these issues sorted out.
How deep is it? From the front it seems like 1.5cm but on some shots more like 5cm. Knowing Amazon: will they release updates that fixes all these issues? Nice and all that it tries to recognize you but the nest hub max has done it for years and does recognize me in summer with a hat/pet on and in the winter with a hoodie on and, hold on for this one: it shows up each person's calendar on screen when it does.

Interesting vid Paul, Been keeping an eye on the for some time but decide to get a fire HD10 11th gen last summer... The main feature I was looking forward to was the home Dashboard in Show Mode but never got my devices to show unti this day! It's been months now so wouldn't be very suspicious about amazon ever fixing there unfinished products. Like you have said; they know we buy there stuff, and that's just wrong as they basically are using us a Guinea pigs and we are paying them for the privilege! Something seriously wrong with people nowadays.
The Silicon Valley (Apple) way! If it builds, release it! Let the customers test it. Then they pay to find all the problems, we release an update and we look like heros.
Watching this 6 months later after they finally got me to buy one, don't think it's changed one bit. Still trying to figure out where the third party widgets are since it was supposedly opened to developers.
1st gen product, I'll give them a pass and hope other platforms and manufacturers make more like it. Hopefully something better than the tablets we currently use

I have a second or third generation “big” show (not the 15), and it’s almost worthless. All those suggestions I don’t want to see, ugh. An ancient iPad is so much better.
Amazon has this thing that if something is 70 percent ready launch it and fix it later, they want to be first to the market, speed is the whole goal. Most people who buy alexa devices don't even setup elaborate smart homes, they are happy with wifi bulbs etc...

i have an echo show 5 and its crap .. slow jerky and constantly dims too black and back too normal again all the time .. it dont even work for ( she who shall not be named ) properly .. software is all it needs as the software is all the issues .. i still find myself referring back too my generation 2 dot ...
Start off by saying I agree with the resolution being higher, but for that screen size 1440p would be more than enough. Also mention the example you use ( the LG tv) is actually an HD Tv, not even fullhd. But you can get a 28" 4K monitor for that price, so more or less valid. (BenQ EL2870U 4K Monitor)
Theres no need to spend so much on it. Take an old echo.... trade it in with amazon, get £25 for it, and then 25% off the show 15 - makes it a more palatable £160 if you do it that way. That said... totally agree with Paul in that its riddled with bugs - astonishing its been released in this state. I don't regret my purchase though and didn't send it back as naively I do have faith that there will be a significant update coming soonish where a lot of the bugs will be addressed. After that, in the future I can see new iterations of software making it much much better with better widgets, more functionality etc. Definitely a 0.1 version of the product right now though.
@@paulhibbert absolutely. Chances are you are replacing an echo anyway or even have one you don't use much or is in a drawer somewhere. The £25 isn't much sure... but the real value in trading in is the 25% discount you get off a new device. This is especially good for the expensive ones like the show 15 etc.

Pretty sure William Shatner isn’t a recovering alcoholic. Given one of his wives died of alcoholism. But a great review otherwise…I’m not sure why Amazon can’t get interfaces right. The echo show 5 and 8 I have are unendingly frustrating.

They should have just put FireTV auto on this. But it just an iteration of the Echo Show v1. New chip, new OS, new challenges. They will change the chip on the next version and abandon it like the Echo Show version one.
