Funny thing. I’m a kayak angler and fish the backwaters of Lake Erie in Monroe all the time. I’ve never caught a smallmouth. Lots of largemouth though. Good luck!

@MattBeckerFishing I was on my way back to fish B.A.S.S opens to qualify for the Elites and Joe Biden happened, lost over 2/3 rd's of my income and just killed the chance. I was able to work 7 months and be off 5 to fish what I needed, not 5 in a row but total time off. Samething happened in 2000, but it also involved a divorce. I cut my teeth 8n Arkansas with good friend Doug Garrett, a friends like Scott Rook, Scott Suggs, Larry Nixon, Ricky and Keith Green, Jerry Williams, even good Ole Kevin Vandam had a hand in my working knowledge but definitely Doug Garrett and an old feller named William " Hoot" Gibson 57 now and not stuck in old ways adapt quickly but time is running out.
