Nope Those three democrat states gave the presidency to tRump and the evangelical republican cult. And now it is all over. We democrats would have had the majority on the supreme court. We had only waited 30 years for it. But when the time came. Democrats in those three states voted for tRump. And gave the supreme court to the evangelical republicans that had being saying what they were going to do when they got it for 30 years prior, starting with Reagan, Bush I and Newt Gingrich. Way to go Dems.

Gerrymandering should be outlawed. Districts should be determined by a non partisan panel with a view to encompass whole communities. No carving out of areas to force a desired political leaning to win.

It is ridiculous that Americans let the party in power draw electoral maps. Independent and non partisan commissions should draw up these maps. Gerrymandering is an erosion of democracy.

It should be open source software drawn. The reason is we would be able to ensure the source code is not manipulated by any partisan group. This would draw the most fair and accurate lines based on population density so everyone has a fair and equal vote in representation no matter what skin color, religion, ideology. The fact that we do not use such things is simply another reason we know the system is gamed against the people. I agree what we have now is becoming an erosion. But its far from the only and nether side wants to actually make it fair or transparent.

They ARE voted positions. You can read the congressional record and see the vote. Even the justice themselves only get ONE vote each. Stop confusing wanted outcome with the Constitution. The Constitution was written to STOP one branch from running ripshod over the other. Judge in SC who said nope I don't need evidence, I say it was gerrymandered is where the fault lies. There were democrats in the house when the map was drawn. If they were passing around pictures of colored people living in a house they wanted moved, they would have said something,

Judges on the Supreme Court need to be term-limited and rotated to lower federal courts when termed out. The Constitution doesn't say their lifetime appointments must be served only on the Supreme Court.

People expect the SCOTUS to do the will of the people but that isn't their job. Their job is to interpret the law and determine its constitutionality. If the law is detrimental, it is up to the legislature to change it, not the SCOTUS to knock it down.

"A nonpartisan Justice may compel up to two partisan junior Justices to recuse themselves." A suggestion to remove the politics by making nonpartisans stronger. What's your better idea? In my lifetime the Court went from all nonpartisans, confirmed by a majority of the Senators from BOTH parties, to zero nonpartisans, though Roberts only missed by one vote. Check the history if you don't believe me. Plus I think the other reform proposals are worse.

that’s not what literally anyone is saying. they’re saying to stop cutting historically left leaning areas and neighbourhoods into tiny bites so that they’ll never get a majority of the vote. There are two ways to gerrymander. Packing and cracking. Putting all black people in their own district would be packing. While deliberately drawing borders to avoid letting any district be majority black, would be cracking. Both are bad. Borders should be drawn without any regard for the race or political affiliation of the voters in the district; only that each district should have near enough to the same number of people and voters each in each state.

The question was between monarchy and republic. The parties got their names from the two halves of what we have: A Democratic Republic, with representatives who can be replaced peacefully over time. Trouble is, the structure of the voting system means the winning move is to trash the other guy, the parties fightimg for a monopoly on power as Washington warned us about. That risks destroying us all.

Unfortunately partisanship reigns and the winning move in elections has become trashing the other guy. We need to be able to replace elected officials more constructively, but that requires stepping back and seeing the bigger picture. Constructive people tend to avoid what has become such a dirty "game." Make Politics Boring Again.
