I think it was a placeholder for the dismembered head enemy from the original (which used Headcrab AI I believe), I've found models in the files of a spider, a zombie head and an undead cat so it could have been replaced by any of those as well.
Hey, I’d like to ask everyone in this comment section, besides this gameplay and some screenshots, what features or other things are known about the game? I may or may not try to form a team to finish this, but even if we don’t, maybe someone else will pick up the info from replies to this comment and finish it. Thanks in advance
from what i remember physical ammo check as you see with 1911 which is very jank and checking health by looking at the watch and thats all i can remember
@@TheatypicalLife The only thing that went anywhere was me writing most of the new story. Then we realized that no one understood source the motivation kinda died off. Even reached out to an old friend who competed in game jams and even he didn’t understand source. Sorry to disappoint, but I myself am still looking for possibilities of making this a reality.
This mod is interesting but has the wrong vibe for They Hunger, seems more like "Ravenholm World" and not the cynical black humor and near-southpark groove of the original, which had a dimwitted cannibal deputy as one of the main villains and bosses which sounded straight from South Park, down to their accent and choice of words. They Hunger is actually a rainy overcast day, seemingly british but never looking or sounding like it. You use an umbrella as a weapon, and the cars look older, but with the steering wheel on the left side. For whatever reason I felt They Hunger was just a bit british, so I think it was the umbrella. I just completed an older build of Lost Souls which does not feature any of these zombies, completed maps, or weapons. They can be accessed with impulse 101, but the pistol for example does not exist in the maps. Levels sort of "end" and you must continue with console commands, there's a game here and it's a work in progress.
@@RabidDogEOCF It is, and I thought it was really cool. It is a good thing there are no liberal arts graduates as protagonists in the game, that would suck.
Interesting points. I forgot the tone of the original, it's been a number of years since I played it. I remember a few of the maps but until your comment I forgot about those aspects. Wasn't really that interested in replaying it but now I might further consider it. Definitely seems like they went a slightly different direction for Lost Souls for whatever reason.
@@DukeBluedevil70 Regardless, They Hunger 2 needs a radio station from the original mod, peak atmosphere. For the sake of the mod, really expand that town with the radio station, the world of They Hunger is rich in a charming Euromerican tone, even if the asylum wasn't as fun or exciting as the first episode. Since Half Life does map transitions with backtracking/going to previous levels through the same load screen, they could put every location in a connected world. I thought it was interesting revisiting Episode 2 in Episode 3.
@@davidmason4140 proof of the cancer or proof that he's alive? His health was the major factor in the studio falling apart back in the day The second part he has a Facebook.
@@AbsolutionArmamentYes. Poor Neil, he's a good guy but I think he's out of the gaming scene entirely after his health issues. Really a shame as They Hunger was incredible stuff, but his life is his own...
There was one team who got in contact with Neil or Einar(original TH Devs). But recently team leader said that his friend with whom he worked on this decided to left and he's working alone now.
What was the origin of the leak? The fact that a build from 2008 recently leaked after over a decade is insane. The main problem I see with what they have is its just kind of ... boring. The combat encounters aren't tense. The player direction through the visuals isn't the best. The set pieces are lit blandly. Not much ambience and still using a ton of HL2 assets. Obviously they had a lot more work to do, but fundamentally what is there is not super interesting.
horrible gameplay video. dude doesnt even stop to let us see anything, nor does he turn to face events that happen ingame so that we (the audience) can see.
