They installed the wrong oil filter...but got it right

Has this ever happened to you. I went in to a local Walmart for a oil change but left with the wrong oil filter installed....always check when you leave a place that has fixed your vehicle.
They might have done you wrong like they did me. I turned around and took it back the next day and they repaired it the right way. ALWAYS CHECK REPAIRS!!!! KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!!!!!!
My car is a 2001 Ford Taurus V6 3.0 OHV engine which requires a FRAM 3600... I use FRAM oil filters, or MOBIL 1 oil filters. Walmart put a FRAM COR3614 oil filter on my car that isn't the correct oil filter. When I went back the next day the same people weren't there at the auto center but I noticed the manager was there and he asked if I wanted a different brand or the same brand oil filter so I asked for the same brand FRAM. They put the correct one on there which is a FRAM Tough Guard 3600 which is what I usually use. I got the $34.88 basic oil change which includes a basic oil filter, if I would had gotten the high mileage oil change which is $10 more they would have installed a MOBIL 1 oil filter.

The 3600 is just the bigger version of the 3614. They are interchangeable. And that's not just me saying it that, its in the actual books they use at lube shops to determine your filter replacement. Thats why they put that on your engine. It's also why it did not damage your engine. The only difference between a 3600 and a 3614 is the capacity. 3614 is slightly smaller. Same threads, same bypass, same filter just slightly smaller.

To clarify my earlier statement, they put the correct filter on your engine. It may not be the filter you wanted but it is the correct filter. When they swapped it out after you went back it was either because you complained at them until they got tired of you and wanted you gone, or you paid the extra money to have them swap it out. As a lube tech, those are the only two things that could have occurred. I give customers free stuff all the time to shut them up. They almost never notice.

Thanks for that comment...I see it might be on their books but when I checked myself it told me something else. I usually use a Fram XG, TG or synthetic FRAM filter usually a 3600 never a CORE 3614. I understand that some Walmart stores were selling these CORE FRAM 3614 filters for $1 because they weren't selling.

@@a1fixitguy309 There seems to be a misunderstanding here. The core series isn't sold on the shelf. It's made to exclusively be used inside the shop. This is why you will never see them recommended in the books that you have access to. Because they're not sold directly to customers. For future visits, if you prefer not to have a core series put on your car either buy one you do want at the counter prior to the oil change or bring your own.

I had a '01 Taurus with the 3.0L Vulcan engine. It actually looks like they UNDER filled your oil the first time. A full oil fill should bring the oil level to the top hole in the dipstick. Your car will only use oil, fill it to the top to lessen the chances of running low. BTW I drove mine to 294,000, so there's plenty of life left in that engine if you keep treating is right!

Anywhere between the top and bottom hole is acceptable, though I always keep it at the halfway or above point. If your vehicle is using oil or burning oil you either have a problem or a GM product. Either way I would look for a new vehicle.
