Great to see the USS Hornet again. I served aboard her in 68-69, and was aboard for Apollo 11 recovery. Just visited her again in May, getting sentimental in my old age.
Even tho the USS Hornet is decommissioned, I'm surprised that the government would allow Casey on it because even the government hates Casey LaDelle! 🤣🤣🤣
@@LTSRIDE24after passing through the Van Allen Belt twice...which we no longer have the tech to do. We have been limited to Low Earth Orbit ever since. All the flight data tapes were "accidentally recorded over" so they will never be available for scrutiny. How very convenient.
Ass tro not Don Pettit said he would go back to the moon, "in a nanosecond" if we hadn't destroyed the tech they used and it would be very expensive to replicate, even though NASA's budget is over $50 million per day. Makes you kind of wonder what they're spending it on. We do know that NASA is the largest consumer of Heium (to launch multi-million cubic foot "sataloons") in case you're ever unable to buy helium balloons for your children's birthday parties.
Love this video! For the record, I watch your channel to watch YOU. No matter what you do, from towing to aircraft carrier, your joy in sharing what makes you happy is absolutely wonderful. Your sense of humor is hilarious. I have been following you for a very long time and I’ve seen the variety of stories you’ve shared and I totally agree with you that you should do the things that make you happy. Your channel is named Casey LaDelle and there’s more to Casey than just towing. So, yes please, share more Casey adventures.
Your channel is called 'Casey LaDelle' .... not 'Casade Heavy Rescue' .... so your videos should be about whatever it is you are doing and want to share with us. I enjoy all your adventures, Casey, and will watch whatever it is that you do. This one was very interesting. I just wish I could have heard everything better. There was too much background noise for me to understand what the various people were saying. And I can't do closed captioning, so don't even mention it.
Have you tried using the Transcript while watching? It’s helped me catch a few things that weren’t heard easily in video on some occasions…not perfect but because it’s separate from the video, it’s not as distracting.
Watching Casey on this aircraft carrier is like watching one of those cartoons with the dog that gets distracted by everything. It's great seeing you enjoy yourself because you have been so busy lately.
They're cool til your out at sea for 8 months or more. You're suppose to ask permission to come aboard and go ashore but if there's no officer on deck that's a pass.
That looked like a cool event. Thank you for bringing us along. That 1st aircraft on the flightdeck that you said you didn't know what it was is an S-3 Viking. It was used for hunting submarines.
Casey you say that you're not good at recoveries, but you're a guy who truly has a heart of pure gold! And you're stumping a lot of these tech guys! I love how you say that you never said you're not good at this but proving the truth that you're truly good at way more!
Some of the folks in this video thought that they were at a military convention, lol! It was fun watching Casey interviewing them and listening to their sales pitch. I enjoyed seeing some of the interesting things that people tried selling to the special forces community and the military in general. Wrist watches made in China with built in GPS that the manufacturer can track? The people that were trying to sell those got kicked out of that trade show and received a permanent ban. Most of it was good stuff, but some of it was crazy. A heat source to power a solar panel probably won't get many orders, hah hah!
Wild trip! I would've been so completely overstimulated in that space. But I'm glad you were able to go and share some of that experience. I'm in favor of your idea to lean in to the seasonality of your businesses and use interesting experiences to satisfy the pressure of producing content on your channel.
When I was a kid, my dad was in the Secret Service and I went to the commissioning in the USS Nimitz. I sat behind the Captain and next to President Nixon in a golf cart, taking a tour. The only part I really remember is the plane elevators are really fast
I got to go out of Norfolk for a day on the Nimitz. I couldn't believe they allowed family and friends on the flight deck while they launched and retrieved jets. They also did low fly overs which was cool.
I spent 18 months in the Marine Detachment on the Nimitz in 89-90 Every time Casey marveled how large the Hornet is I was like uh not really lol. On a side note we used to use paintball guns to train shipboard tactics when we were in home port at Puget Sound Shipyard. One of the decomishioned ships we used for that training was Hornet.
Too funny, we were just discussing taking friends to the Hornet in a few weeks when they come to visit. My old workshop (literally in some of your shots) was right around the corner from the Hornet, but the city decided that industrial space was not welcome.
1 tour on the New Orleans, 2 on the Ranger, and 1.5 on the Oriskany. The Ranger was home-ported out of Alameda at the time. We almost lost me to the South China Sea, but fortunately, or not, that didn't happen. Oh, and I forgot to mention the work-ups, shake-down, short cruises, tiger cruises and so on. I spent the vast majority of 4 years at sea - in a helicopter squadron! That contributed greatly to my not re-upping.
Did you ever imagine that starting your own recovery RU-vid channel would open up all the opportunities that we as watchers get to enjoy through you? It is an amazing journey and thank you for taking us along. I'm looking forward to your visit to the International space station in an upcoming video.
The Delorean, Back to the Future car!! That remote is from the first Back to the Future movie, where Doc Brown puts his dog, Einstein, in the car for a test run, in the beginning of the movie. He controls the car remotely. Yep, I'm a BTTF nerd, love it!! I am a happy nerd to see that! Want! :)
Great idea for your videos, Casey. This is fun! I would suggest to Sam to contact someone such as Jeremy Clarkson, James May, or Richard Hammond, to spotlight his boat on their RU-vid or Amazon shows.
Very interesting. I worked on Navy ships in that air station for 23 years. Mostly carriers including the Enterprise and the Carl Vinson. I still live about 1/2 an hour away from there. It would have been nice to meet you.
Great video, interesting stuff. I like your idea that you mentioned at the end about "summer fun & travel" videos. Hope you get to go to Europe next year and help demo those boats. Have a great Fourth of July.
Think you could make watching paint dry interesting. Good luck with whatever you do; I will continue watching. Just stay safe. The world needs people like you.
I just rolled the likes over from 999 -1K! Let me have my moment that's not really a moment, ok? Great one man! A carrier this time! The random variety you offer is fantastic Casey! Here for all of it man, keep on keepin on!
When you were at the F14 on the catapult, that was a TOWING VIDEO! I mean, there's a big strong hook connects to the front of the jet to get it moving... so... kinda' tow trucky??? Yes? 🤡
I love your videos. Take this as a compliment. It’s like watching the world’s coolest 10yr old stuck in an adult man’s body. You don’t act smarter than me even tho you are and you go out of your way to make people smile. The world needs more Caseys.
Very cool trip. Hornet is interesting to wander. My history geek brain immediately starts coughing up 10,000 random trivia facts about it, and it's namesakes. Doolittle Raid in WWII launched B-25's from it's predecessor, which if I remember right was sunk in '42. Nice change of pace, Casey!
Sam should consider building a diesel/electric version of Navier. The SF bay area ferry system would benefit greatly from Sam's technology but the turnaround time needed to recharge the system would make them inefficient because the power density of current commercial batteries is still too low to be practical. A ultra efficient diesel/hybrid ststem on the other hand could easly operate at 10-20% of their current fuel budget with no downtime for recharging. That savings alone would be a game changer for SF bay transportation.
Enjoyed the production, as a retired Navy Senior Chief I'd like to share that when landing on an aircraft carrier, the F-14 Tomcat typically throttles to a speed of around 178 knots (approximately 205 miles per hour). The carrier’s arrestment gear can handle landings at this speed. Happy 4th of July from Lower Alabama!!!!!!!
I’m so excited to follow this video. Don’t know anything about this world but love seeing it. So jealous, wish I could be there. In May 1998 when the USS Missouri was docked in Astoria, Oregon before going the Hawaii I took my young children there to tour the ship. They were too young to realize what the significance of that ship was, but by golly they were there. I still get goose bumps thinking of that day.
What is a 'Casey'? I haven't been able to come up with a short definition so, I MUST keep watching to see what is next. A great channel, and an infectious manner of relating to what is happening! PLEASE keep it up!!!
3:41 That's not a big jet. That's a small jet. 😁 It's an S-3 Viking, and was used for hunting submarines. 6:51 Stairs in aircraft carriers are actually _called_ ladders in Navy vernacular. Good observation! 😊
Yes, I liked this video. My older brother was stationed on the Hornet, late 50s, early 60s he was a machinists mate. Do You have a video when you were piloting the foil, fyol, phoil, uuh.. stand up and scoot boat? Interesting tech show. Good tour. Thanks for sharing.
When my sister was a chief she was on the John C. Stennis, my dad oldest son who was 8 at the time and I got to go on a Tiger cruise from Pearl Harbor to San Diego. Got to shoot a 50 cal off the side of the boat and sit inside most of the jets they still had onboard along with a bunch of other things they probably don't do anymore. Was a great experience for us, also got to meet an Admiral who called my dad a hero.
A good test for the Navier when in Europe would be to sail/fly the ferry route from Penzance to the Isles of Scilly, 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. out in the Atlantic! The existing ferry has to have a flat bottom, and when it is too rough, they resort to Ribs running water jets. It's NOT a smooth journey at all.
an icebreaker ship tour would be awesome! i know there's plenty of foundations and historians that have already made extremely knowledgeable videos about them, but it's a whole lot more fun coming along with you on you "1-in10,000" moment, learning new things
The outside-the-box thinking from back when is soooo much different from now, and I am super impressed. .....Also....I was so not expecting to see Casey in that electric car. That alone blew my mind....
Hi Casey, great video. It was like watching a kid in a candy store. If you like the carrier and aircraft go to San Diego and check out the USS Midway museum. Great place to visit. 😎🇬🇧
Casey what an amazing and incredible trip for sure!!! It was awesome to hear about your early years and I may not have been interested in flight school in the military I wanted to be in the marines or special ops but I also had health issues when I was younger!!! I was 2 years old when I went through my health issues!! I had bladder cancer and had an ostomy bag also but still kept getting sick every year anywhere from 3 to 6 and 7 times and every time I would end up in the hospital it would be 7 days or longer!!! Nothing less than 7 days!! It has definitely been hard finding jobs over the years because most companies would end up depending on you and if I was gone and in the hospital they would have to try and find someone to take my spot until I was better and back!! They would definitely not like that!!! So I have done many different things over the years and have lots of experiences in different things but end up having to move on!!! When I was in 6th or 7th grade I ended up going in to have another big surgery to try a new way of getting rid of my ostomy bag and being one of the first ever to try!!! Over the years I have had several new ways of ways to try and help me out!!! I’m 44 now witch I definitely did not expect to live this long for sure!!! You and I have some unique things that we share I guess to say!!! Anyway awesome video and I’m glad to join you in the venture!!! It was definitely so much fun!!!
It was great and I enjoyed it a lot. Cheers Casey :) .. but I'm not entirely convinced that any of those very interesting techie things will actually work in the real world and as for that UFO spotter... hhhmmmm ... lol
Casey you are on the 2nd USS Hornet. If you look on RU-vid you will see the wreckage of the first Hornet. What is especially cool about that is the Massey Ferguson tractor sitting on it chained down.
Casey, 'stairs' on ships ARE ladders. The plane with the twin wing mounted jets is the S2 Viking. I've been aboard the USS Lexington at Corpus Christi TX. It was impressive.
Casey LaDelle...Man o Man...I'm 70 years old but I live and breathe technology and science...since I was 15...I got the nickname Mac Gyver in Nederland...still I try to do some projects such as using a drone attached to a stick or making a waterproof case for the same drone "Subdrone"...I wish you much success with your channel
Im pretty sure this is in Alameda. I visited this place like in 2019 definitely mind blowing especially since she served in WW2 . In the main floor under the flight deck you can see a plaque of all the Japanese warships and planes she has taken out and I believe took part in the Iwo Jima invasion !
The lights on the front landing gear door show the status of the landing gear. If the gear indicator on the control panel does not show green, they fly by the tower on the ocean side. People in the tower look with binoculars to see what color light is on. If the gear door shows green, it means down-and-locked. If it shows yellow or red, it means it is not locked -- get ready for a crash. On a ship, they are not stairs, they are always 'ladders'.
This is one of my favorite videos uploaded that you shared so far. There's so many things I wish I could say about each one of the technology topics covered in this video. But my comment would be miles long.😂
"How do I end up in these situations?" My theory is that, because you sound like a young Tom Hanks, every so often your life takes a "Forrest Gump" style turn. 🙂
Interesting but it's hard to tell if they're really smart or just better at making word salads? I can comprehend just enough to miss the handle and not quit get a grasp.
Good friend of mine gone now was on the original Hornet when Doolittles Raiders bombed Tokyo. He was in it when the Japanese sank it at the Battle of Santa Cruz. He was in the water 5 hours until a destroyer picked him up. I bet you could back it in its berth Casey !
I had bowel cancer 20 yrs ago they removed my rectum,, ive have had the bag since them I think im luckier than you in that they only removed the bottom bit of my colon ,, other I than the bag i dont have any change in diet unlike u where it sounds like they removed lots of your system also i have disposable one use bags all free on the NHS I enjoy what ur are doing on ur channel
Well, that's one surprising content for heavy haulage and truck rescue channel. It's so good that they invited you. You should do it more often. Go for this winter=work, summer=youtube. How do you fee as an influencer? :)
