EXO started with 12 members divided in 2 units EXO-M singing in Mandarin and EXO-K singing in Korean, but they had problems and quit the group and we have now 9 official members (Baekhyun, Xiumin, Kai, D.O., Chanyeol, Chen, Suho, Sehun, Lay) But Lay does only activities in China and the others do the group song in Korea. And also they're less and less official members because they go to their military services for 2 years.

And D.O's "Baby Girl" made me hook to EXO since my college days

Tao and Lay are chinese members. Tao was the last one to leave EXO. (They started as 12 members) EXO is now 9 but Lay is in China promoting his solo albums bec of political issues between countries. They did an acoustic version of this and its also amazing. They all can sing and harmonize. CHEN, BAEKHYUN (pronounced like bacon) and D.O. are the main vocalists. All together their vocals are out of this world. 😊❤

For you to understand the irregularity you noticed with the number of members, eyes here: 1. EXO started with 12 members. They were divided into 2 groups when they debuted, EXO-M (M for Mandarin, they promoted in China. 4 members were Chinese, 2 are Korean) & EXO-K (K for Korean, 6 members all Korean). 2. Kris (from EXO-M) left followed by Luhan (EXO-M). The last MV where they were still 12 members was Overdose. 3. Tao (ta-w) (EXO-M) left as well. Call Me Baby was the last MV they had where they were 10 members with Tao. 4. Officially, EXO is now a 9-member group. But because of some kind of China-South Korea political conflict, Lay couldn't promote with the Korean members as he is Chinese. The last MV they had with Lay was Lotto. 5. After Lotto, EXO promoted with 8 members. Lay made an appearance during Tempo though. 6. And, if you're really a Kpop fan, you probably know of the compulsory military enlistment of 2 years for Korean men when they reach the age of 30. Nobody's exempted even if you're an idol. During Obsession, they promoted with 6 members because Xiumin (shu-min) and D.O (dee-o) have already enlisted before it was released. 7. And just recently, Suho (soo-ho), their leader, enlisted last May 14 (and even went to the wrong camp 😂). Baekhyun (bek-hyun), Chen, and Chanyeol (chan-yol) would/might enlist next year. Kai and Sehun (se-hoon) would/might enlist on 2022.

D.O.'s voice is my favorite! But I must say that no one can beat the golden trio of Chen+Baekhyun+D.O.. EXO's three main vocalists are no joke! Sadly we only have 2 songs sung by this trio :(

EXO actually debuted in 2012 with 12 members but sadly some stuff happened and 3 members left the group and that's how EXO ended up as a 9 member group. LAY is an EXO member but he's currently inactive and doing his solo stuff that's why you didn't see him in most of the music videos you watched BUT he is still part of the group and will always be.

They have this iconic one shot music video called "Growl" in 2013. That era made them the 1st Kpop group to end the 12 years drought of physical album sales in Kpop. Exo has 9 members. They debuted as a 12 member group. You've seen Lay in some of your previous reactions like Tempo where he appears for a few seconds (he sings in the Chinese version of the song) and in Monster where he even sings. Because of political differences between Korea and China he can't promote with the group, but he has many solo albums. Tao is one of the former members of the group and was the last one to leave which happened after this come back. When you do a vocal compilation please don't choose the old one but one by Say What Reacts, she has all the members shown in her videos not just main 3

EXO history 101: Exo debuted with 12 members with a specific concept of having 2 sub groups. 1 based in Korea and 1 based in China. Exo-K and Exo-M respectively. 6 members for Exo-K and 6 for Exo-M. They would have music videos for the chinese and korean versions of the song and promote in their respective countries and sometimes come together to promote. Mama was their official title song followed by Wolf and they achieved national success with the song Growl. Exo usually releases a special winter album as well, to which Miracles in December was their first winter title track. Their comeback title track overdose was the last title track in which they had all 12 members as the Exo-M leader, Kris filed to terminate his contract with the company(cue lawsuit). With chinese member Luhan also terminating his contract 5 months later. They released their second winter title track December, 2014. EXO started with 12 members 4 being chinese. At the start EXO was divided in to two sub units EXO-K (korean) and EXO-M (Mandarin i:e Chinese). Two members left the group Luhan and Kris. Then later another chinese member left called Tao. EXO are now only 9 members but can technically only perform as 8 since Lay is an cultural ambassador ( or something like that) which makes him a rather big deal and sadly can't perform with EXO due to a trade war between China and Korea. For the Korean members they have to eventually go in to militray service for 18 monts (some already have). In other words we won't have OT9 EXO for a really long time. That being said, after you are done with EXO you should go on to check out their new subunit CBX as well as their solo work. Fun fact Lays latest chinese album sold over 4 million and the Korean members with a solo carrer are the biggest solo artist in Korea along side just a few names not from EXO.

What you need to know about EXO, is that they originally started as a 12 man group. 3 of the chinese members left and now they are currently 9 members strong. The reason Obsession was only 6 members promoting was due to the fact that 2 were out on military service and Lay is in China promoting his solo career while he waits for political tensions between Korea and China to subside. EXO are the best in the industry, of that there is no doubt, they have incredible voices and their videos are incredible with many kinds of details that not everyone observes. They were initially 12, Tao, Kris, Luhan, and Lay came out (they are 4 Chinese, Lay still belongs to the group but is doing individual projects), finally the last 8 members remain, all of them Korean. Ik this is 3 years later, but ill explain anyway. The original Exo when they released had a total of 12 members. 6 for their korean version and 6 for their mandarin chineese version. Thats how they began making their songs, releasing 2 of the same songs, just with different languages to appeal to 2 different audiences. Later, 2 members, Kris and Luhan, left the group due to some conflict with SM Entertainment (the group they go through), leaving us with 10 members. Which is now the time they just decided to form 1 big group instead of 2 small ones. Which is the era of 'Call me baby'. A few months after this song, another member, Tao, got into a conflict with SM and he left the group as well. Leaving us with 9 members. Which is currently where we're sitting. However, although Lay is still technically part of the group, he's on a hiatus and has been for a while, so no one is really sure if he'll return. Leaving us with the 8 we've known for the last decade.

Now we have 9 stable members in EXO but Lay rarelly participate in new albums (😔). He promoted in China and you can listen to his solo songs "HONEY", ''SHEEP", "NAMANANA" and others. Also EXO have two sub-units now: EXO-CBX (formed in 2016 and the group is composed of three Exo members: Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin) and EXO-SC (formed in 2019 and there're two Exo members Chanyeol and Sehun). I really want to see your reaction to EXO-CBX's songs "THE ONE" and "BLOOMING DAY" 🤭 Ah, and for now the members have been leaving to the military service one by one, so they do not participate in all the songs because of this so it's also a little difficult to understand how many members in the group. EXO originally was two separate groups. EXO-K performed in Korean language, and EXO-M performed in Mandarin language. Each had 6 members, and they also performed together as 12. Two of EXO-M members quit, and EXO became one group with 10 members. This song is from that time period. A third Chinese member left, and they became the nine member group they are today. Politics between China and South Korea keep Lay - the remaining Chinese member - from participating. But EXO has nine official members. Currently 3 of the 8 active members are in the military. Three more will go in at the end of the year; D.O and Xiumin are getting out. So the number of active members will fluctuate for awhile.
