Signal chain: Pro Co RAT 2 (settings see in the video) - EarthQuaker Devices Acapulco Gold V2 (settings see in the video) - Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen - DAW - Amplitube 5 (Maz 18 Jr amp, 4x12 PPC 412 cab, EQ PG equalizer) - two additional EQs in DAW.

For those who wonder why the pedals aren't turned on - they were when I played them, but the "video" is actually just a photo of two pedals not plugged.

If you add their octave up pedal to the front of the signal chain, you have the final piece of the puzzle. Downside is the octave up is set to maximum. I find that I prefer only a small amount of octave up mixed in. Just enough to make the tone cut a bit more.

A TC Electronic Sub n Up is very versatile, you can add as much or little as you want to an octave up or 1 or 2 octaves down or all 3 at different levels.

Check out the Hypercoven by does it doom. Octave up pedal with an octave blend knob. I throw that before a rat -> green Russian -> boost and I love that sound.

I've seen them live once. It was overwhelming loud and chest rattling bassy. The venue floor shook from one string pluck. Ear plugs are strongly encouraged.

The Needle Drop (A.K.A. Anthony Fantano) went years ago when they played in a cathedral and said there was so much fog that it was like soup and that it was also hard to breath because his chest was rattling from the vibrations Sunn created

i saw them too! and steven o’malley solo once. o’malley by himself was loud af but meditative and mild compared to sunn proper, who were absolutely monolithic. you can feel your bones vibrating. if you don’t wear earplugs you’re insane.

Saw them in Detroit and can attest to the fog. Got myself propped against a wall for support which was great, but overall couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Really excellent show. Highly recommend.

I had a fender bandmaster once that broke it's way into being a sunn. No voltage knock down anywhere. Wide open 400+v all over different components... It was fun

@@claesvanoldenphatt9972 that can be misleading. Many times when you see a large band on tour they'll have additional fake amplifiers and cabinets for set dressing. That being said Sunn are definitely more likely than most acts to actually have that many speakers going

That was the sweet spot on Acapulco Gold. With more output on the pedal you will "choke" that brutal clipping. But maybe you right, I should've make the video more loud. The problem though is that I don't know how exactly loud RU-vid video uploads should be.

@CLINT let’s just say they don’t recommend diming it in the instructions, the Acapulco has been known to blow low-mid wattage amps. Now if only we knew of a certain 200 watt behemoth with that kind of headroom 🤔🤔

@@Linkolite You can get pretty much any classic fuzz sound out of it if you know how to dial it in and it has the octave switch too. It’s a great pedal but it took a long time to learn how to use it to its full potential. There are some decent RU-vid videos that helped me in the beginning.

Pretty sure they feed multiple amps into each other to get that sort of feedback loop of never-ending noise. Not 100% sure though. I remember seeing a diagram of their live set up a while ago.

No, in this video I used Amplitube for amp and cab simulation (see discription). But previously I used Joyo as my amp and cab. There's advantages and disadvantages of using Amplitube vs Joyo.

Rat, Super Fuzz, Boost, isn’t that the Sunn O chain? Sheer volume to get infinite sustain is the key to their vibe, I think they’re really cool but I’d get bored after 5 minutes of the same droned chord.

There are songs where they don't play one drone for an hour. Somehow, those aren't as popular. Monolyths and Dimensions has relatively variable songs on it. Also violins and stuff, it's a really good album and my favorite by Sunn O))).
